Konnichiwa everyone, here it's Marchettino and it's rotary time, look at the japanese car we test today!

Close hard!

Is there a normal seatbelt? - Yeah!

I'd like to use that one! We're using the normal seatbelt!

How many RHD cars you've driven?

Just rental shitboxes in UK.. oh wait, a GT-R as well!

Driving a RHD manual car in Italy is a different sensation!

Being used to drive mostly european exotics and supercars, it's very interesting to drive this Mazda RX7 today.

As you can tell by the RHD this car has been imported from Japan

in recent times the culture for the japanese car is becoming stronger and more appreciated in Italy

and this is a car you don't see often in fact earlier today while filming it, pedestrians were asking infos about this car, and what a car!

What I'm driving is a very important car for Mazda and also for the automotive culture in general because

this is the last car fitted with a turbocharged rotary engine!

In fact in front we don't have a classic engine with pistons but we have a wankel engine linked to two turbos

As you can see but also hear, this car is not so stock, in fact the turbos have been increased

Stock the car produced 280hp, according to the owner with the current soft map it has about 360hp.

all stock the performance weren't that bad because it's a car that in 1992 went to 100kph in 5.3s with a top speed of 250kph.

By looking on the internet I noticed it's hard to find Mazda RX-7 well maintained for sale, it's pretty rare and this has just 40.000km

and I can't imagine in Japan how many drift sessions and it has done at Tsukuba or at Hakone!

Obviously no electronic aids, just the right foot!

Of course RWD!

You don't have much oil left! - What? - You're at half so don't push it too much! - Ok!

You hear that? A problem of the wankel is that it drinks a lot of oil, also a friend who had an RX-8, he was always driving with a box of oil in the trunk!

How it pops!

The exhaust is heating up properly|

One thing of the RX-7 that amazes me is the system that Mazda developed to handle the turbos because

the turbos don't kick in together to provide the power, the first turbo starts to kick in around 1800rpm and the second kicks in around 4000rpm,

this system allow to reduce turbo lag and have lots of power and torque from the low 'till the high revs.

Now this system is standard but in the 90's it was innovative!

Ok so halfway we stopped because like every proper wankel, we check the oil level!

Kinda low! - Low? Do we need to fill up?

You've burnt half kilo for this ride!

In 15 minutes?! - Yup!

The oil consumption of this car is insane!

Now I understand why my friend with the RX-8 used to drive with a box of engine oil! - Yeah, easy now!

Driving this RX-7 is very amusing, I also like the gear shift because the gear changes are very short and sharp!

And driving it around these roads it was very fun because it's very light and agile, it has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution

and the weight is very low, slighty less than 1200kg! So about 80kg more than my Abarth 500!

Once again, I'm doing a sauna! There's no A/C and about 30 degrees outside and I'm starting to sweat! The carbon gear shift is hot!

The A/C was too heavy!

In terms of value, how much an RX-7 goes for?

If well maintained, I think the right price around 15.000€ can be yours!

It's not bad! For this money you buy a fun car!

Considering you can register it ASI, you reduce quite alot the running costs!

15.000€ for a RWD, manual, twin-turbo, 50/50 weight distribution car, I think in terms of quality/fun/price the RX-7 is not bad!

As you can see, this is just another day of a owner of a wankel engine, checking the oil level!

Finally I can say I got to drive a legendary rotary engine, the Mazda RX-7 is truly fantastic, the japanese truly know to make cars!

I thank the guys at Airphix Custom Studio for letting me test it for the morning

and what to say, make sure to Like the video if you enjoy it, subscribe to my YouTube if you haven't yet and as always thanks for watching, ciao!
