Jeep Wrangler Barricade Alloy Series Aluminum Front Bumper (2007-2018 JK & JL) Review & Install - Duration: 11:13.

This Barricade Alloy Series Aluminum Front Bumper is for those of you that have a 2007

to 2018 JK, or even the new JL, that are looking for a front bumper that's gonna change up

the look of your Jeep, also provide a lot more functionality but not add a ton of weight.

I have been able to handle quite a few different aluminum pieces for a Jeep in the past and

they're all lighter than the steel version.

Of course, that's the whole point, but this thing is dramatically lighter than most other

front bumpers.

I can pick this bumper up with just one finger from the boom bar here, so this thing is incredibly,

incredibly lightweight.

So, whether you're looking to keep weight down for performance, acceleration, braking,

for fuel mileage or, like most of you are trying to do, keep weight of your bumpers

down to keep your suspension from sagging, this is gonna be a great way to do that.

Now the tradeoff for that is going to be that aluminum, in general, is a little bit more

expensive, so this bumper in steel is gonna be a little bit less than this bumper in aluminum.

But again, if you're looking for the benefits of aluminum I do think this is very much worth

it.

This is gonna be a pretty easy install so I'm gonna give it a one out of three wrenches,

although it's a little bit more involved that some of your steel bumpers.

With your steel bumper, your winch plate, and your D-ring mounts, they're all just gonna

be part of bumper because you have that strength from steel.

With this, the parts that really need to be strong are going to be steel so they're gonna

be separate from the actual bumper.

So just a couple more pieces to put together.

Not a huge deal.

Still one out of three wrenches, and we'll talk a little bit about that installation

in just a second.

So, speaking of that, these pieces that really take the abuse, they're still steel.

They are gonna be stronger.

If you're somebody that really abuses your bumper, you want to be able to lay this thing

into the rocks and not have it deformed, maybe a steel bumper is a better option for you.

A good aluminum alloy is still gonna be very strong but not as strong as steel.

Again, that's very evident by the fact that your D-ring mounts and your winch mount, those

parts that need to be strong, and there's still steel on this bumper.

But again, the weight savings is really, really nice.

So it's definitely a balance.

It's gonna down to how you use your Jeep, what you're looking for.

You want something that's lighter, you have a little bit of a higher budget, you're not

gonna be abusing it quite as much, aluminum is a great choice and this is gonna be an

excellent option.

As we said before, aluminum is usually a little bit more expensive than steel and this is

no different, however, if you want those benefits I think this is gonna be worth it.

So let's talk about the construction of this bumper a little bit.

The bumper itself is right in here.

This is going to be what I would consider to be a mid-width bumper.

You can see here is where your frame horns are so it does stick out a little bit past

that, but it's not gonna be a full-width bumper and it's not really a super tight stubby either,

so this is a good mid-width bumper.

It does have all the things that you would expect to see in an aftermarket bumper.

It's gonna give you a lot of that aggressive styling, but it's also gonna have some additional

functionality.

So this bumper is going to be able to accept your factory fog lights if you have a factory

plastic front bumper.

If you have one of those Rubicon or Special Edition steel front bumpers from the factory,

those fog lights are a little bit different.

They're not gonna bolt right into this, but for 95 plus percent of us that have a plastic

factory front bumper on our JK or a JL, those fog lights will bolt right in here.

You will have to do a little bit of work on that fog light wiring harness to get the harness

to stretch to where it needs to be.

You can either buy an extension or just take some of that harness out of the loom and rework

the wire routing itself, but either way, do keep that in mind.

Again, not a huge deal there.

For functionality, you also are adding a winch, and this is something we talked about before,

this winch plate.

This part's steel.

This bolts directly onto the frame, right onto the frame horns.

You can see here and here it's gonna bolt directly on and give you your mounting spot

for your winch.

So that still gives you plenty of strength even with an aluminum bumper, you have a nice

heavy-duty steel winch plate here.

You're also going to have two steel D-ring mounts and this does come with a D-ring.

Those are gonna bolt directly through your winch plate and directly into the frame rails.

Again, giving you all of the strength that you're looking for there.

This bumper does have a couple of tubes up at the top.

This is gonna add a little bit of protection to your winch against some light brush, I

guess.

It's really more of a piece that's going to add some style than really functionality.

But the one part about this that is functional is right up here, and that's going to be your

light mounts.

So you have two light mount tabs that are built right into this bumper.

So not only does it accept the factory fog lights, also has spots for some auxiliary

lighting if you choose to run some.

So, in this case, all of the structure is still steel.

It's all in these pieces up front here.

And then the aluminum piece that goes over top, it's really just the aesthetic part.

It's really more of a bumper cover at this point although it does have spots to hold

your lights.

Now, remember, the install team will show you how to get this bolted up to your Jeep.

To begin this installation we'll need to remove the factory bumper.

You'll need to unplug your fog lights.

There's gonna be four nuts on either side.

We're gonna use an 18-millimeter socket to remove those and pull the bumper off.

Next we're gonna remove the two inners.

Now, after you remove the nuts you'll have to remove the plate as well.

So now that you have all the nuts removed we're ready to pull the bumper off, but before

we do that we're gonna disconnect our fog lights.

So to show you how to do that I'm gonna pull this off a little bit so you can get a look.

So we're just gonna push in our tab back here and once we do that you can unplug the light.

Do the same thing for the other side and we can pull our bumper away.

Now, the next step is to remove the factory fog lights out of the factory bumper since

we're gonna install them in the new Barricade.

We're gonna use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the four screws on each light.

So now we're ready to install our fog lights in the new bumper.

First thing, we're gonna install the provided plastic plugs.

Then we're gonna use the provided screws to attach them.

So now we're ready to assemble the bumper and the bumper comes in three pieces.

You're gonna put your D-ring mount on the front.

You're gonna insert the bolt with a small washer through the D-ring mount, through the

bumper, and then the winch mount is gonna be on the back side.

So we're gonna put our bolts through our plate.

You have the small washers on our bolts.

We're gonna our bracket.

When everything is assembled and your bolt's in place we're gonna lift this up with the

help of our friend and install our nuts.

So we're gonna place our large flat washer on the bolt and then we're gonna install our

nylon lock nut.

To tighten them up we're gonna use a 16-millimeter wrench for the outside bolt head, and then

a 17-millimeter socket for the nut.

Barricade also provides you with D-rings.

It's a pretty easy install.

We're just gonna unscrew the pin, set the D-ring up on the mount, and then reinstall

the pin.

And do the same thing for the other side.

So at this point in time you're pretty much done with the install.

If you have a winch there's a winch plate available, you can go ahead and install that.

One modification you will need to make, you'll need to extend your factory fog light harnesses

which the supplies to do this are not included.

However, that wraps up our view in install.
