New 2019 Honda Accord makes ASEAN debut in Thailand

But that isn't stopping Honda from bringing in the all-new according to the asan region

Replacing the v6 model is a new 2.0 liter unit also turbocharged

essentially a detuned version of the one found in the Civic type-r the one used in the Accord makes

256 PS

The 1.5 liter is paired to a continuously variable transmission while the 2.0 liter gets a 10 speed automatic

But the main highlight is the hybrid model which was displayed during the show

Dubbed is a sporty hybrid. It has what Honda calls intelligent multi most Drive or I MMD?

The result is a power output that's higher than the one found in the 1.5 liter turbo accord

with its electric motor and engine working together the Accord Hybrid produces

212 PS

But perhaps the biggest innovation in the Accord Hybrid is the fact that it doesn't use a conventional transmission

Instead it has a single speed direct drive system which sends power straight to the wheels without the need for a trans

That said there isn't a high chance of the hybrid model making its way to the Philippines

however, what is more certain other two turbocharged engines if you're a fan of mid-sized sedans you might have to

Wait a little bit longer for it to arrive here. The tenth generation Accord will hit Thai showrooms early next year

so it might arrive here towards the latter half of

2019

Márquez, satisfecho con los primeros test de 2019, no tiene dudas y ve a su compañero como un rival duro para el año que viene junto a las Ducati y las Yamaha.

-Acaba de llegar de Jerez, ¿cómo han ido las sensaciones con la Honda?

-Recién llegado de Jerez, sí. Los test han ido bastante bien, la base de la moto es buena, hemos empezado a un nivel igual o un poco mejor que con la de 2018 y eso es importante,

pero lo fundamental es recoger toda la información, saber todos los puntos que tenemos que mejorar y que en estos meses de diciembre y

enero HRC trabaje en Japón para que cuando pongamos la moto en la pista en febrero veamos donde estamos nosotros y los rivales. El punto de partido es bueno, pero lo importante será en febrero.

-¿Cuáles son esos aspectos a mejorar? ¿Quizá el rendimiento con las gomas más blandas?

-Sí, es ahí donde estamos intentando entender el tren delantero a la hora de entrar en curva, por qué nosotros siempre tenemos que ir con el duro cuando el resto normalmente va con el blando, ahí es donde estamos intentando trabajar un poquito más.

Y luego también en la salida de curva. Entrando no perdemos mucho, incluso ganamos, pero saliendo es donde tenemos que centrarnos un poco más y eso significa trabajar en chasis, motor y electrónica, es ahí donde tenemos que sacar más décimas para ser más competitivos.

-El hombro no le habrá permitido tirar tanto como querría...

-Estos test me ha tocado controlarme bastante. Soy de los pilotos que más vueltas da siempre en la pista, pero he dado el que menos casi.

No quería pasar de las 50 vueltas al día para no castigar los tendones del hombro porque ahora me tocará pasar por el quirófano.

Me tocaba ir con calma, tenía prohibido caerme porque si se hubiese salido otra vez el hombro hubiera sido peor para la operación porque se forma líquido. Y bueno, el equipo me ha tenido un poco retenido.

-¿Cuándo se opera?

-La semana que viene. Me tocará sacrificar las vacaciones porque tengo seis semanas de recuperación.

-Es pronto pero, ¿podría hacernos un primer dibujo de lo que espera la próxima temporada?

-Es muy pronto, pero estarán los de siempre. Las dos Yamaha van a estar ahí, la moto en los test va, falta entender si van a ser competitivos en todos los circuitos,

pero Morbidelli y Quartararo que acaban de coger la moto (la satélite de Petronas) están yendo muy rápido, y eso significa algo, quiere decir que hay potencial. Luego, las Ducati estarán y mi compañero de equipo, Jorge, yo creo que será un rival para el campeonato.

-Sí, porque a Lorenzo se le ha visto más cerca en estos últimos test...

-Si ves los tiempos ahora en los test parece que hay diez pilotos que pueden luchar por el campeonato. Del primero al décimo había cuatro décimas, nada... Y ahí es,

donde hay que entender el ritmo de carrera de cada uno, donde había más diferencias. Pero Jorge es un cinco veces campeón del mundo,

ha ganado carreras con Yamaha y Ducati y va a ganar carreras con Honda, quien espere lo contrario es que no quiere ver la realidad. Es uno de los pilotos rápidos de la categoría que va a ser un rival duro.

-¿Han tenido tiempo para hablar?

-Sí, más que nada porque cuando volvíamos en el vuelo hacía Barcelona coincidimos. Los billetes los saca Honda y nos sentamos en la misma fila (sonríe).

Lo más importante es que coincidimos en los problemas que tiene la moto, en lo que se tiene que mejorar, los dos pensábamos lo mismo.

-Como compañero, ¿qué puntos puede aportar Lorenzo que no tuviera Pedrosa?

-Son completamente diferentes, primero por el físico. Dani tenía un estilo de pilotaje muy particular y una puesta a punto de la moto que sólo la usaba él porque pesaba muy poco, era una especificación sólo para él.

Con Jorge, e incluso con Crutchlow, vamos los tres más o menos con el mismo set up, cada uno se adapta a lo suyo, pero tenemos una envergadura más similar.

-Se ha halagado mucho su valentía y la de Honda de apostar por un equipo tan fuerte como el vuestro...

-Bueno, en Honda están encantados, y a mí cuando me lo dijeron no puse ningún tipo de impedimento. Por qué has de vetar a alguien, eso sería síntoma de miedo.

Prefiero que si alguien me gana lo haga con las mismas armas, así no hay excusa. Si me ha ganado con la misma moto, pues me ha ganado... Si tienes un rival fuerte como Jorge con otra marca,

ya no sólo depende del pilotaje, también de más factores. Jorge ganará carreras con Honda porque se está adaptando bien.

-Seguro que nos vamos a divertir el año que viene.

-Seguro, lo vamos a intentar.
