While Porsche's first-ever fully electric vehicle, the Taycan, has yet to reach dealerships in production guise, customers are already showing a huge interest in buying the car

In fact, during this year's LA Auto Show, Porsche North America president & CEO Klaus Zellmer told CNET that "if all the people [who pre-ordered] buy this car, then we are sold out for the first year" – which is pretty impressive

Zellmer went on to say that "more than half of the people that are signing up for the Taycan have not owned or do not own a Porsche

"When asked what type of cars potential Taycan customers drive, the Porsche exec stated: "Typically, if we look at our source of business, people coming from other brands, it's Audi, BMW, or Mercedes

The no.1brand now is Tesla. That's pretty interesting, to see that people that were curious about the Tesla for very good reasons obviously don't stop being curious

" Whether this means that Tesla owners are thinking of switching to a Taycan, or adding one to their existing garage, is unknown

However, despite the Taycan already looking good as far as its upcoming battle with the Model S is concerned, Porsche may soon need to start worrying about a different rival, one that actually shares the Taycan's platform: the Audi e-tron GT

So how worried is Zellmer about the latter encroaching on Taycan's space? Apparently, not much

"If you drive a Macan, you know that we share a platform [with Audi], but it's a completely different car

And that's exactly what has to happen and I'm sure Audi has followed the same path

" There you have it then. While the Audi e-tron GT should be a very exciting car to drive, the Taycan will provide customers with an even sportier experience, so as to live up to its Porsche heritage
