Hyundai is finally moving past a very confusing naming scheme of SUVs with the
Santa Fe Sports Santa Fe Santa Fe Xcel which ones which well actually now the
Santa Fe the redesign is your five passenger two row SUV the new palisade a
new SUV revealed at the 2018 LA Auto Show that's your big boy 3 row SUV and
we've finally had a chance to check it out now even though the naming might
seem simpler the headlights probably going to be just as confusing those
units up top along the hood those are actually LED running lights the actual
headlights kind of sit lower down similar to where they are on the Santa
Fe and on the kona suvs they're kind of alongside this giant sprawling grille
which sits front and center the other big thing about the palisade
is well just how big it is overall length up about three inches versus the
outgoing Santa Fe XL that was kind of the three row SUV Hyundai had overall
height only up about two and a half inches overall width though up a very
significant three and a half inches give or take and wheelbase about four inches
longer than the Santa Fe Xcel and we've had a chance to get inside the palisade
and it's very roomy in there with lots of good visibility thanks to tall
upright windows the second row seats captains chairs or a bench are available
the chairs can push forward with the touch of a button for easy third row
access and there's actually adult friendly third row space back there now
in terms of family-friendly features Hyundai says there's plenty there's a
roof-mounted air ventilation system that uses a diffuser so it can kind of vary
airflow without generating undue wind enos Hyundai says there's also seven USB
ports so just about everybody can have something for their devices they're 16
cupholders so everybody can stay hydrated there's even a rear intercom
system so you can talk to people in the way back using the cars speakers and
finally there's a rear sort of sleep mode so that it just plays music up
front and everybody even back can sleep of course until they're using those 16
cupholders and then they're gonna tell you they need a bathroom break as far as
other technology Hyundai says there's a push button gear selector system it
actually frees up lots of space to store things on the dashboard because it
doesn't take up that much real estate there's also ten and a quarter inch
center display that's conjoined on the same panel as a twelve point three inch
instrument cluster that actually looks reminiscent of what we've seen in
certain mercedes-benz models right now so kind of an interesting touch there
Haeundae now all of this goes on sale in summer of 2019 as a 2020 model year
vehicle a 3.8 liter v6 with 291 horsepower will come standard so we're
excited to get behind the wheel and you can stay tuned to hear much more about
the palisade on cars calm
you
