Today we are going to look into the details of New Wagon-R. Before getting started into
details I have a question. Are you aware of the meaning of R in Wagon-R. The R in the
name stands for Recreation. It has been a profitable car for Suzuki even in the International
market. mainly since introducing the car in India. And it is loved by entry segment of
Indian car buyers. This is the third generation model of the
WagonR and is completely new ground-up. The third generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR is bigger
and better than outgoing model. And in terms of design it looks different!

a look on bootspace available. Once we are done with dimensions we will move
on to colours options available for you. Next in line is a technical details where
we will be covering information about engine, suspension, brakes.
Next is the details on the variants available the features available in that variant along
with the price offering for that variant. You must be interested in knowing how new
Wagon-R is different from previous one. We will cover it in this section.
Finally verdicts where we will share our view on how we see the upgrades and offering are
matching the expectation of Indian market.
This is the third generation model of the Wagon R and is completely new ground-up. The
third generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR is bigger and better than outgoing model and in terms
of design, well, it looks different!. And it is being called as true tall boy.
WagonR has got considerable amount of changes at front. Right from Grill to Headlamp. A
chrome garnish across the grille is also visible. It has housed newly designed Front Grill.
Take a closer look at it. It got unique split headlamps but misses out
on LED DRLs, just like the outgoing WagonR. WagonR is also equipped with Fog lamps. Fog
lamps helps driver to get better visibility during foggy condition where visibility is
very limited. The bumper up-front too is a new unit with
trapezoidal housing for the fog lamps. Body colour ORVM are having turn indicator
on it.
The rear-end of the car also gone through a series of major changes. The tail lamps
are moved upwards and integrated with the pillars of the car. It has added to more appealing
looks. This vertically-oriented tail-lamps looks great. The other distinguishing factor
is thick C-pillar which could grab more opinion in terms of looks.
Old flat looks are now upgraded with decent lines which are running through bonnet to
bumer. Sadly WagonR has not given an option of alloy wheel.
In is the third generation model of the Wagon R company has well invested on interiors.
Overall quality of car is improved a lot. WagonR is offering dual tone interiors. There
is a change in overall dimension which has added additional space to the cabin. Now cabin
is more spacious than outgoing model.
Dual tone interior is a combination of black and beige colour. At the centre we have a
a slightly elevated touch screen panel.
Maruti is calling touch screen display as a smart play. Reason is that it enables connectivity
to smart phones and makes your car more smarter. It has support for Android as well as IPhone.
Now pair your phone and be more connected with your WagonR.
Now WagonR is equipped with a Auto Gear shift assembly. It's a fun to drive now with no
tension of manual gears management.
Moving onto steering wheel. WagonR is having music controls at your finger tips. You can
change volume as well as track or FM channel using steering mounted controls. Steering
is also giving you the control over your calls. Using Bluetooth connectivity you can pair
your phones with car. Once you do it then you can do call management over Bluetooth.
You can receive and make calls. You can also disconnect your call with just a click of
buttons on your steering wheel.
Behind the Steering wheel you can also see a dashboard cluster. This cluster is in a
classic design with orange light. It gives you a full information of car.
Next feature inline is a about Windows. WagonR is adding a convenience of electric power
window. Driver can take control of all the windows by the buttons available on his door
panel. Best part is that it has a one touch auto movement for Driver side window. With
this auto feature driver need to click his window button once and action will get executed.
It means if window is closed and driver want open it then he don't need to keep pressing
the button till it gets completely open. He will click it down once and window will get
rolled off with that one click. But this feature is available only for driver side window.
Have you noticed a round button just before the window controls. This button is given
to control the ORVM. Just select the right or left and rotate that key to adjust the
visibility you want.
Now a days maruti is encashing there safety platform that is Heartect platform. It is
a modern platform which maruti is using to build there top in line products. It is already
used in Caiz. Baleno. Ertiga. This new age platform is robust and enhances overall safety
of your car. This New technology helped in reducing the car weight by approximately 40
kg. This heavy reduction is weight will be evident in overall fuel economy for this car.
The Big New WagonR have ABS and EBD installed. This Anti-lock breaking system and electronic
brake force distribution system ensures you always remain in control of your drive.
Air Bags is most know common feature. No need to give more details here. It will defiantly
help you in crucial time.
The new WagonR is longer than the old car by 56mm and by 19mm than the Stingray. If
we look back then you will see that Stringray was later sold as WagonR VXi+. Bigger and
bolder is how Maruti describes the new WagonR. Which is noticeably wider and longer than
the outgoing car. The third generation WagonR is 150mm wider and also has a 140mm wider
track. This changes are resulted in an 120mm increase in shoulder room inside the cabin.
The tallboy from Maruti isn't as tall anymore though. It is 25mm shorter than the outgoing
model. However, the wheelbase has been stretched by 35mm. This additional wheelbase has added
to comfort and extended leg room.
Rear seat of wagonr is having a split of foldable 60 40. This foldable seats enhances the bootspace
of car by compensating on seating capacity.
New Big Wagonr is having best in class bootspace of 341 Litres. With foldable seats it can
get extended upto 710 Litres.
All new Big WagonR is available in six different colour options.
It is available in Poolside Blue.
Superior White. Autumn Orange.
Silky Silver. Nutmeg Brown.
And last option is Magma Grey.
Engine is a heart of any car. WagonR is providing you an option of selecting it. It has 2 engine
options. The Big new WagonR is equipped by an advance
1 litre k series petrol variant. Which provides a superior fuel economy. Company is calming
a mileage of 22.5 kilometre per litre under standard test condition.
The Big new WagonR is also powered by an advance 1.2 litre k series petrol variant. Which provides
a superior fuel economy. Company is calming a mileage of 21.5 kilometre per litre under
standard test condition. New 1.2 litre engine is from the family of
k12 engine with series M. it has a capacity of 1197 cubic centimetre. You can notice that
it is a 4 cylinder engine. Where as 1 litre is a 3 cylinder engine. This 4 cylinder engine
is capable of generating maximum power of 61 kilowatts at 6000 RPM. Where as maximum
torque of 113 Newton Meter is generated at 4200 RPM.

New Big WagonR is equipped with well tested Mac Pherson Strut with Coil Spring and at
rear it is using Torsion beam with coil spring. This is good enough to get comfortable ride
on indian road.
This hatchback is able to accommodate 5 passengers. Though it is not a comfortable ride for rear
seat passengers if 3 are there. Hatchback is having a fuel tank of 32 Litre. That means
ideally it will give you around 650 to 700 kilometre of range with one full tank.
When we talk about tyres. Wagonr comes with 14 inches of tubeless tyres. Alloy wheels
are missing in this upgrade.
WagonR is having a disc break at front and at rear you will find drum brakes.
New platform have helped in making new big wagonr to save on weight. It has a kerb weight
of 830 kg. Where as it has a gross weight of 1340 kg.
Third generation wagonR is not only bigger in terms of space but also it raised a bar
by adding good features. When it comes to dimensions new wagonR is longer than old one
by 56 mm. If we baseline it with Wagonr VXI then its 19 mm longer. It has revised with
addition of 150 mm of width which resulted into additional 120 mm of shoulder room. Now
this tall boy become more stable by reducing height by 25 mm and increasing wheels base
by 35 mm. New heartect platform is a underlying platform
for new car which has resulted in a drop of around 40 kg in its overall weight.
Maruti has redesigned the WagonR with slight scoops around the wheel arches, which give
them a flared look. At the front, it gets unique split headlamps but misses out on LED
DRLs, just like the outgoing WagonR. At the rear, it retains the old metal nameplate but
now features all-new tail lamps that are place vertically.
Moving on to engine. New big wagonr is available in 2 engine options 1 litre and 1.2 litre.
Choose what you want. In older version we have seen only one option of 1 litre engine.
Overall fuel economy is improved by atleast 1 kilometre per litre.
Apart from the L and V variants that were offered with the older model, the new WagonR
also gets the Z trim level for the first time. There are many changes when it comes to interiors.
You must experience those changes by visiting a showroom near you. Example. It has 7 inches
smartplay with support of android and iphone. Now it has steering mounted controls.
Rear parking sensors, driver airbag and ABS with EBD are now standard on the new WagonR.
while, there are dual airbags, rear wiper and washer, and electrically folding ORVMs
with turn indicators on the top trims.
India is a price sensitive market. You will find same thought in price of Big new WagonR.
It is having lowest price of 4.19 lacs. Which is mere 4000 higher that older model. With
new engine and more options we have seen a stretch of 34000 as compared to outgoing model.
Now new option of ZXI AGS is available at a price of 5.69 lacs which is 34000 higher
that older high end model.
