Hi everyone and welcome to Ultramobility Mini-Review where I give you just the essentials in a
5 minute, unsponsored RV review.
I'm your host Neil Balthaser and today we're going to take a look at a little known RV
manufacturer creating quality class B camper vans for direct to consumer sales out of Quebec
Canada.
The manufacturer is New West and if you're open to a less conventional way of getting
into your dream RV then they just may be the ideal manufacturer for you.
New West has been manufacturing high-quality Class B recreational vehicles since 1999 - so
they're no new-comer.
Their founder Jean Dumais was a huge fan of the popular Westfalia models out of Europe.
Inspired by the Westfalia he designed his own class B RV that kept the key elements
of the Westfalia but also adapted it for the North American market.
Today, New-West makes 9 different models on 3 different chassis and we're going to take
a look at three of them right now.
The BO-M (which is short for Bohemian which in French is pronounced Bohème) is New West's
least expensive offering starting at $59k Canadian dollars or just $44k USD.
That prices includes both the van chassis and the build out.
The BO-M is assembled on the GM Chevrolet Express non-extended 2500 chassis and is only
18.5 feet in length - making it ideal for use as a second car.
It has a beautiful modern yet rustic interior design with a versatile interior layout.
The rear dinette converts to your bed and sleeps 2.
There's a poptop that can sleep another 2.
Mid-section is a basic kitchen with a 2.5 cu.ft. compressor refrigerator, a portable
alcohol stove and a small sink.
Now the water pump on the BO-M is manual but that's just one of the ways that they're keeping
the price affordable.
However you also get some nice available upgrades like 100w of solar, a Webasto gas fired heater,
a 1500w inverter and both a side and rear awning.
Next up is The Altitude.
It's built on the Ford Transit 250 High Roof chassis, imported from Europe with a length
of only 19.5 feet.
It starts at $115k CAD or $87k USD.
The biggest advantage the Altitude brings is its 6'4" interior standing height - one
of the tallest in its class.
In the back you have an innovative bench seat dinette that converts into your bed.
The rear portion of the bed is on a lift and allows for the storage of bulky items which
are also accessible from the inside.
Mid-van is your galley with a compressor refrigerator, a wood alcohol stove or an induction cooktop
and a marine style sink.
I appreciate the modern design elements like the curved radius corners on the cabinets.
Rounding things out the Altitude features an inside portable toilet and a shower concealed
beneath a folding countertop.
Rounding things out let's have a look at the Grizzly.
Starting at $139k CAD or $105k USD the Grizzly is assembled on the 19.5 Mercedes Sprinter
2500 4x4 chassis!
It is available in either the a 4 cyclinder 7 speed engine, which is the one I have on
my Sprinter and gets about 26mpg or the more powerful 6 cylinder 5 speed transmission which
gets around 23mpg.
The Grizzly's design is modern yet rugged for outdoor use at the same time.
It's a no-frills interior with easy to wipe down floors, cabinets and upholstery yet it
doesn't compromise on livability.
There's a dinette/bed in the rear and a second optional dinette up front for 2 people.
In the galley you'll find an alcohol stove - if you haven't noticed yet all New-West
designs feature an alcohol stove and that's so they can completely eliminate the need
for propane.
There's also an induction cooktop option.
There's a large 4.3 cu.ft. compressor refrigerator, a microwave a marine style sink and plenty
of storage.
Up front behind the driver's seat is an indoor portable toilet and the shower curtain drops
down from the roof.
There's also an outside shower.
There are 6 other floorplans and models available so I encourage you to check out New-West's
website.
I'll put a link in the video description below.
Two other important points you need to know: First, all models are 4 season except the
BO-M. That means they feature upgraded insulation in the walls, all their water lines are routed
internally and fresh water tanks are also internal.
Heating pads on your holding tanks and heat tape on your water lines are available as
options.
Secondly, New-West offers an incredible 7 year coach warranty which at this time is
the best in the segment.
Now as far as purchasing: If you live in Canada you can buy one directly from New-West or
find them at dealers.
If you're living in the United States then you'll purchase the chassis of your choice,
deliver it to New-West's factory in Canada and when the conversion is complete drive
it back home.
Production time is about 2 weeks and they currently have only a 1 month wait list.
If you're willing to think outside the box then New-West is a great alternative to the
standard fare camper vans that are available here in the states.
Alright that wraps up this week's mini-review.
