Short of an M5 or an M5 Competition, the M550i xDrive is the quickest BMW 5-Series version you can buy today, thanks to its 4.4-liter twin turbocharger V8 engine

It pushes down 462 PS (456 HP) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels, and can accelerate BMW's saloon to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4 seconds flat

This means it's actually quicker than the old M5, and just 0.6seconds slower than the latest M5

If, however, you want your M550i to stand out from other 5-Series, you can always ring a well-known tuner

Someone like AC Schnitzer, for instance, who offers a body kit with extra carbon fiber parts which give the car a more aggressive look

Mods include a custom front spoiler with carbon fiber inserts, a carbon fiber 'Racing' rear wing, side skirts and new wheels, while the interior remains a little more conservative, with a classy combination of brown leather and white contrast stitching, plus wood inserts on the dashboard, center console and door panels

A few months ago, we saw this very same kit on an M5 Competition, which had additional carbon fiber above the rear diffuser

That car was also commissioned through BMW Abu Dhabi, and featured a red exterior and an all-black interior

BMW iNEXT Proofs Its Future Tech Against Extreme Snowy Conditions - Duration: 1:59.

On a snowy trail in Arjeplog, Sweden, BMW is out testing its all-electric iNEXT crossover in order to optimize everything, from the all-wheel drive system to the chassis and suspension components

The production version of the iNEXT will be built at BMW's Dingolfing plant starting in 2021, and will be the automaker's technology flagship, integrating key systems such as automated driving, connectivity and electrification

These components must first deal with extreme real-world conditions, such as snow-covered roads and ice-covered lakes, where low temperatures and minimal road friction are to be expected on a daily basis

The biggest challenge, as far as the electrical motor, high-voltage battery and cooling system are concerned, is posed by the cold itself, as their performance is significantly affected

Test engineers are also looking into how these sub-zero temperatures affect the energy storage system and the way it recharges, how electricity is transferred into the electric motor, how the electrical system is supplied with energy and how the heating and air conditioning systems respond

Also under strain are the power transmission and suspension regulation systems, both of which are tested "far beyond" what is standard in everyday traffic conditions

Then there are the steering and braking systems, which have to be adapted for every single driving situation that can be encountered

When it's all said and done, BMW will have tested the iNEXT in sub-zero temperatures on gravel tracks, dry asphalt and of course, very slippery ice-covered surfaces
