Hi people! We return to this channel one more week. I'm
recording this video on Sunday because I doubt I'll be able to do it on Tuesday, but
I found some time for this anyway, so I put on makeup and my new dress... Oh,
by the way, let me show you my new dress. Yesterday I was at Granada with my bf and
we passed by the shop window of Desigual. I'm not a
huge fan of Desigual, I rarely go into that store and I'm not fond of
their mantra of "We're special and against everything mainstream"
while being themselves this huge store chain. And in the end every Philosophy female teacher
in the universe wears their clothes like uniforms, so they're anything but special or alternative.
But the point is I saw this and said "Oh, what a pretty dress, I'll
buy it" and it was at half its original price, so I was like
"Eh, whatever." Look! It's pretty.
I have a new dress and look at me, I can move like this, and this, and this... See, see all this freedom
of movement, look at the dress, look. Anyway, today I'll show you
three new books I got this week and we'll have a little raffle, okay?
Let's start with the books. I'll make a small unboxing here.

How cool! BOTANIC TIME: The Silence of the Mandrake, by Mercè Homar Mas.

Here they are. Okay, so beside at the starting numbers
of every chapter, there are also drawings. How pretty, so much care. This publisher
caught my attention, I may look into them
someday. How cute, what a gorgeous edition. Congratulations, Mercè!

It sounds so cool. I'm so excited to have it!
BOTANIC TIME: The Silence of the Mandrake (Spanish) by Mercè Homar Mas. Now,
this one I ordered too online because I read about it in a magazine and said
"I must have it." It's an essay book... That's what "essay" means, when a guy
philosophizes and shares their studies and the like...? I'm still not sure.
The point is, it's titled "THE FAILED INTELLIGENCE" by José Antonio Marina, and
it's some kind of study about human stupidity, like... have you ever
wondered why some people seem so clever an talented for some things,
but then act like utter morons in other aspects of their lives? Like the typical
person that, I don't know, composes, can act, and has a mindboggling
artistic talent, but then you get to know them personally and they turn out to be these aggressive,
ego-driven, brick-brained insufferable twats?
Yeah, I've encountered a few of those and, since I can't wrap my head around this paradox, when
I don't understand something, and see the internet drama and get so fed up of the horribleness,
I often react in this curious manner which consists in buying books
about Psichology and Sociology, hoping to make sense of all this shit.
The synopsis is very long, but I'll make it brief for you.
"If there's a scientific theory of intelligence, there should exist another
equally scientific for stupidity. I believe, even, that teaching it as a
core subject in every level of the educational system would be immensely beneficial
for society. For a start, it would vaccinate us against nonsense, a goal of utmost
urgence. This book tries to answer the questions each of us ask ourselves:
Why do we make so many mistakes? Why are we so hellbent on making our own lives miserable?
Why do clever people do such stupid things? Why do we trip
a hundred times over the same stone?" I started reading it already, usually
at night in bed, before going to sleep. I don't know, it's a strange time to
read books on Psichology and Sociology, but meh, I enjoy it
and this is one of those books that help you make sense of other people's bullshittery
and also your own. It's a bit dense, not your
average self-help book like those of Bernardo Stamateas on Toxic People,
made for a wider audience so everybody
can understand it quickly, and I like that, too. This book is a bit more
peculiar, but fear not, it's not that complicated either. I can read it myself, so... XD
Now onto the next book. I purchased this one yesterday in Granada.
I really wanted this one.
WICKED by Gregory Maguire. Okay, Wicked... You may know of
this musical about the Wicked Witch of the West that told the story of Elphaba,
the green-skinned girl, her live and how she came to become
the Wicked Witch of the West of Oz? (Such phrasing, much eloquency here T_T)
Yeah, that musical was inspired by this novel. First there was "The Wizard
of Oz," and then this came out. It was
published it in 1995. I really wanted to read this adult-fantasy novel
and discover the actual story without, well, you know, all that musical-esque
sugarcoating... Mind you, I love musicals, but one always
wants to hear the true story behind, its darkest, rougher
parts. I don't know how hard this book will be, but the synopsis sounds promising:
"WICKED. In a fishermen's village in Munchkinland, Melena's first daughter is born.
Her husband can't be by her side because a troupe of puppeteers has arrived to the village;
their irreverent shows are driving the community crazy.
The newborn is named Elphaba, her skin is green and she bites the matron's
finger off with her shark-like teeth. Twenty years after
its release in USA and with millions of sold copies, WICKED: Memories of a Wicked
Witch has become a classic of contemporary Fantasy.
It paints a rich, lively world where animals talk and struggle
to be respected as every other citizen, and where a witty,
irritating and misunderstood green-skinned young girl challenges
the preconceived nature of good and evil until she becomes the Wicked
Witch of the West. But it's not easy... brdberdlblrdgb... It's not easy
to be the villain of the tale."
The book was at 10€ and I said "Great, it's mine now."

A groundhog, a marten? All in all, one of those rodents people insist of
adopting as pets, but you really shouldn't because they'll
wreak havoc? Yeah, one of them. How pretty, how beautiful, how sweet.
And what did we learn today, kids? When you receive a package from a publisher
after pre-buying their books, always look twice into the bottom
of the bag, because sometimes there's an extra, and if you don't look, all the merch within it
will end up in the trashcan.
