Even a tied-up man can fit inside
the trunk of a Skoda Karoq.
In the background, there's the city of Corleone,
and the soundtrack from "The Godfather".
There are all the sad clichés
about Sicily, and it's because of that
that the commercial by the French magazine
Auto Moto
about the Skoda Karoq sparked
a lot of complaints.
That's why when the French journalist in the commercial
says that: "In Sicily, this is how it's done,"
and laughs about it,
it's inevitable that the
Sicilian and Corleone community,
as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano,
gets extremely annoyed.
A commercial in which, for the umpteenth time,
talks about the boring clichés
from Sicily
like Mandolino, Pizza, Spaghetti, Mafia...
It's all because these clichés
tire us,
just like the ones where
the Germans in a beer commercial
mock the Greeks
because they can't afford it.
Skoda didn't want to be associated with it,
and the magazine publicly apologised.
But we have a suggestion:
to get more clicks the next time,
why don't you make a video
with the churches of Corleone,
the great landscapes of the Rocca Busambra,
the Center of Palermo, the Etna,
the Temple Valley in the background...
or maybe you can just come here,
visit Sicily and study a bit more.
