Hello, this is 13N
Today I am test riding
Suzuki SV650
alright, let's hop on
Because I rode my Street Triple to the event
this bike feels a lot narrower
well, duh, it's a v-twin
my butt is burning. so hot today
ok, ignition on
this dashboard
if you've seen my GSX-S750 video
then you should be familiar with the dashboard (same design)
let's start
let's try again to test its one press start feature
only need to press the starter once
yup, you see
one press and it will crank until it starts
pretty nifty feature
cluth lever is not adjustable
brake lever is adjustable
not bad
honestly, I've talked about this bike for a while
finally got to test ride it today
ok, about the dashboard
gear indicator is on the right
rpm is on top
a mark on 5000rpm, and another one on 10000rpm
redline is above 10000rpm
this bike has ABS
ABS warning lights up when bike is first started
it'll go away as soon as you start moving
let's get a feel of the bike first
speaking of SV650
I think a lot of you are unaware of its history
at the beginning, Suzuki debutted SV650
back in 1999
It was carb'ed SV650
its design. let's put it this way
the new bike design is actually paying homage to its original design
a new philosophy. back to original
meaning they want to bring back the good of SV650
also using Trellis Frame
Original SV650 was very very very popular
here in US, the 2nd generation came soon after
in 2003. It doesn't have tubular frames though
changed to beam frame
but it was still very popular
just happend to see one here
SV650S, last generation SV650
I skipped the SFV, since it doesn't share the same name
black frame is 2005+
doesn't matter if you are a commuter
or a race track fanatic
this bike is seen everyone
if you go to the track
you'll find SV650 specific class
thanks to its manageable power and easy handling
plus the cost, abundant parts and reliability
some people say it's the do-it-all swiss knife of affordable street bike
it can do anything
commute, travel or race track
up to you how you want to modify it
in fact
the latest SFV650 (Gladius)
was no match and very unpopular in US
people just don't like its design
didn't sell as well as the SV650s
I think that's probably why Suzuki
decided to bring back SV650
this engine actually has smooth powerband
I will compare it against the parallel twin
from XSR700 and MT07
since they are direct rival anyway
so I said the engine delivery is quite smooth
plenty of torque
starting from 5000
all the way to red line
no sudden jerk or power output
quite different from MT07
MT07 is master of torque after all
when I rode the XSR700
or tried other people's MT07
a twist of throttle throws you off a bit
this bike isn't like that
The v-twin noise
and
the overall power delivery is quite pleasing
it has its own charms
I can understand that some people
would prefer a v-twin
over MT07's engine
I bet it will sound even better with aftermarket exhaust
the front fork
unfortunatley is not adjustable
rear suspension is adjustable in preloads
this is quite strange
last generation SV650
not SFV, I am talking about SV650
pre-2008 models
actually allows adjustable preloads
they took that away on this bike
however, if you follow any SV650 news
you'd know there's another bike called SV650X
a cafe racer version
comes with clip ons
that bike has preload adjustability
perhaps they do this to separate them
this is more of a regular street bike
and that SV650X would a performance/cafe racer version
hahaha, downshifted too much
quite heavy engine braking
not as heavy as MT07 though
as for the brakes
dual piston
if you look closely, you'll see that
this bike is still using original brakes
the same as original SV650
no upgrades on this part
the only differences is the ABS
stepped on the rear brake and locked it a bit
a squeaky sound, didn't feel the ABS though
maybe it takes longer to activate? let me try again
yup, it is working
this ABS feels a bit different from my bike
it is less abrupt
so it's still using the old brakes
I don't have any complaints on the brakes
when riding in the city traffic
feels adequate. perhaps I need to do some canyon riding
or onto the track to really find out
I recall MT07 is 4 piston caliper
in theory, that type of equipment
brings more braking power
but I've read in one review that
Although MT07 has better brakes
the brake feel isn't as good as the SV650
by the way, this bike has low RPM assist
as soon as I let go the clutch
it raises the rpm a bit to help
let's see if it does this when rolling
yup, revs up to ease the engagement
wait...if I roll with clutch in and then just let go
it revs up to connect right away
to new riders or lazy riders
this is handy if you don't have to match the rev
quite easy to steer
I can easily turn in
along with the bike
pretty effortless
honestly, for a 75hp bike
this type of bike
riding is pretty stress free
if you are new to larger bikes
you should be able to handle this bike just fine
in fact
I think it's easier to ride than MT07 for new riders
that's it? what? I don't want this to end yet
the seat height, I recall
is 780mm
very friendly for shorter folks
not a problem
yup, I can flat foot
ok, let's hear the vtwin
You don't really get tired
of looking at this type of design
Trellis frame color matches with the wheel color
fancy
from the outside
its look is not so much "in your face"
like muscular, edgy or special design
sort of mundane
some say
the suspension setup is better than MT07
but don't forget. The new MT07
is using XSR700's updated suspension
so in comparision
from my feedback of test riding XSR700
I think the XSR is a slightly better
I forgot to mention
this bike is about 198kg
heavier than MT07
but when you are riding it
You don't really feel the heavier weight
isn't sluggish either
alright, that's it for a quick test ride
hope you like it. I'll see you next time
Thanks!
