Well, guys, if you want one hell of a loud exhaust for your '11 to '14 Coyote-powered
F150, look no further.
Ford Performance's Sport Cat-Back that I have with me today was developed in partnership
with Borla, a leading name in the industry, and it will definitely give you a loud and
particularly mean sound as you just heard.
And all that sound is dumping from these very nice, polished hot rod rear exit tips.
Now, install is a soft two out of three wrenches.
And that's only because you might have to make one cut to this supplied tubing over
here.
Either way, the entire job should take you about two to three hours.
So most important obviously is sound, and the sport does come in at a very strong four
out of five on our loudness meter.
The only options that are gonna get you any louder are gonna be Borla's ATAK System or
a pair of Outlaws from Flowmaster.
Now, the sport muffler on this is straight through and it connects to two and a quarter
inch tubing.
That's all exiting out of these again, nice, polished four-inch tips.
Now if you like the sound and look of the Sport but you want something a bit more mild,
I suggest you check out the Touring version of this same cat-back.
And with awesome sound comes some equally nice quality here.
The entire cat-back is made from 304 stainless, top-of-the-line stuff, and considered best
in the category.
And all the hangers are pre-installed, and they're actually welded, which makes for a
very easy install.
Now, all this sound and quality doesn't exactly come super cheap.
The entire system checks out just shy of 1,100 bucks.
Again though, you are definitely getting what you pay for.
304 stainless, again, gonna last the longest with any system in the category, and the Borla
Sport muffler plus Ford Performance's overall build quality really cannot be compared.
Now keep in mind, the Touring system does cost the same, so all things are equal if
you like this setup, but you want a bit less volume.
Now if you do like everything you see here, let's get into the install itself.
Again, this is a soft two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter.
And again, you might just have to make one simple cut, but I promise, it's very easy.
Anybody can do it.
So with that said, let's head over to our garage, get one of our trucks, and I'll show
you how to install this entire system.
First things first, guys.
We're gonna go ahead and get our truck up on our lift and supported safely with jack
stands.
So now that we have our truck up on the lift and supported safely, we're gonna go ahead
and get underneath here, and we're gonna start with removing our stock cat-back.
Okay, so now that we're under the truck, we're gonna remove our stock cat-back like I said.
What's nice about this is that the entire stock cat-back is one piece so all you have
to do is remove the two bolts on the flange up here.
Those are gonna be 13 milimeters.
Okay.
So with your flange unbolted from the vehicle, the entire exhaust system should slide off
as one piece.
Now, you have these rubber isolators up here that the hangers go into.
It's really good to spray those down and lube them up first, that way it's easier to slide
the system out of the truck.
Okay.
So now that we have our rubber isolators all lubed up, we're gonna go ahead and pull the
entire exhaust off the truck.
I have a buddy helping me out to make this a lot easier.
Ready?
Yup.
All right.
Go ahead and steer it down.
Cool.
And bring it back this way.
All right.
Now that we have our stock exhaust off the truck, it's time for us to install our extension
pipe for the new exhaust.
This goes on piece by piece.
Now, we're in luck today.
Our truck is the right cab and bed length, so I don't have to make any cuts to this.
So I'm just gonna go ahead and bolt it right up to the vehicle.
Okay.
So to start with installing this kit, you want everything hand tight.
You don't wanna make anything too tight because you wanna have a little bit of play with all
the tubing.
Okay.
So with the extension pipe hung on the vehicle, you wanna grab the larger of the three AccuSeal
clamps that comes in the kit.
This is actually gonna connect the extension pipe to the muffler assembly itself.
So just slide this on.
So with your extension pipe and your AccuSeal clamps set up, it's time to actually install
the muffler assembly itself.
Now like I said earlier, the nice thing about this kit is that all the hangers are already
installed and welded.
So it's pretty easy for you.
You can just take all of the hangers and line them up with the isolators and go ahead and
shove everything in.
So now that we have our muffler assembly positioned on our extension pipe, we're actually gonna
go ahead and tighten down this clamp.
That way, when we're putting on the rest of the tubing, this doesn't come loose and fall
off.
This is a 15 milimeter nut that we're gonna tighten down.
Okay, now that we have our muffler assembly tightened up, it's time for us to actually
install the rest of the piping.
Now before we do that, keep in mind that we have to install new hangers for the rear exit
tailpipes.
These hangers are gonna install on the nut that secures the actual leaf spring mount
and bolt to the body of the truck.
Now, you'll notice when I installed the new hangers for our exhaust system, that I didn't
actually tighten down the nut and bolt all the way on the leaf spring mount.
Now that's important because this is currently not experiencing any load.
If you tighten these back down while the vehicle's in the air and then you lower the truck back
down, you might rip through the bushing up here.
So tighten it just enough that it's secure with a little bit of play in the hanger itself,
then once you lower your truck and your system is on, go back under here, tighten these up
all the way with the leaf springs under load.
Now with both of our hangers installed, we're gonna start with putting our new rubber isolators
in.
These can be kind of a pain so you're gonna want to spray them down and lube them up.
All right.
So with your isolator on your hanger, it's time for you to put on your passenger side
tail pipe with your exhaust tip.
Go ahead and slide one of the clamps on to the tail pipe itself, and then we're gonna
throw it up onto the muffler assembly's outlet pipes.
Now with your tailpipe hung and in place, go ahead and grab your clamp and tighten that
down with the 15 milimeter socket.
Okay.
So once you have your passenger side tail pipe hung, it's time to do the driver side.
Now, it is a tight fit back here so the driver side is a little bit of a different story.
You have this extension pipe that connects to the outlet of the driver side muffler tube,
and that connects to the tail pipe itself.
Go ahead and loosely connect these two, throw your two clamps on, and then get it into place,
and hang it up on your driver side isolator.
Okay.
So with our driver side tail pipe hung and connected, the system is now technically complete.
It's one piece.
We're gonna go through and we're gonna tighten everything down, starting with these last
two clamps that I just talked about, and again, these are 15 milimeter sockets.
Okay, guys, so with everything tightened up front to back, that actually wraps up my review
and install of the Ford Performance by Borla Cat-Back.
One last time, when you lower your truck, make sure before you take off that you just
tightened down those two nuts and bolts for the leaf spring mounts.
All other things considered, enjoy the new sound.
I'm Travis.
Thanks for watching, and for all things trucks, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
