Hi, you are watching BikerMW73!
Today we will change oil and oil filter
in BMW F650CS!
This extraordinary model has an unusual structure,
and complete lack of information
makes repair or upgrade deliriously complicated.
But this is not a purpose to stop!
In this video we will explain,
how to change oil and oil filter without any mistake.
I'm sure, that 50% of riders don't even know, where it is installed.
So... Let's go!
1) Discharge
The dry-sump oiling system is used in this motorcycle.
There is an oil tank in frame, under the false tank.
Oil from the tank through pump goes to engine.
This helps to avoid oil starvation, but then you need to unscrew 2 bolts, instead of 1, to discharge.
First is at left, at height of your knee.
Unscrews with inside 6-end star.
If you need to discharge an oil tank, then put the bike on side step and bounce this bolt off!
Keep in mind, that there is more then 2 liters of oil.
The second bolt is on the bottom, it is used to discharge an engine.
Unscrews with 23-size head.
2) Change of oil filter
On 650CS oil filter is installed on the right part, down, behind a round cover.
To get it, you need firstly to detach front part of belt casing.
Then you can detach a filter cap.
It is difficult to pull a device out manually,
but it is quite easy with magnet.
Is it necessary to install the filter in such position?
Of course!
Wide end and narrow end,
Install like this!
3) Pouring oil
According to one old manual, recommended oil for this bike is
Castrol 10W-50 4T, but it is difficult to find...
Felix said, that you can fill both 10W-50 and 10W-60. Generally, our Motul is OK.
What we do now: we fill oil tank fully, then start a motorcycle,
some oil will be pumped in engine. Then we check oil level and fill it one more time.
Then we start it, warm up and correct the level.
It worked some time, oil is warm and pumped.
Let's check oil level!
Too low... Let's correct it!
You need to fill, start engine and check oil level until it stop decreasing.
If oil level is more then maximum, then you can remove some oil, using syringe.
I think, we will lose something like 4 liters...
Yes, I think 4. More then 3.5, I assume.
Like in real car!
Hm... Yes. In dry-sump systems there is a lot of oil, really.
Tank, hoses and all these different pieces - oil is everywhere.
I had a Yamaha Warrior, there were 5 liters!
There are only 700-750 milliliters left of 4 liters!
Dry-sump system had eaten 3.25 liters of oil! Wow!
Let's have a ride! (I feel myself a superstar...)
So... That's all. I hope, the video was useful for you!
Thanks, Felix and Moto-Fix workshop!
Without your help, we would brake a bike at all. However, whom it disturbs...
