Škoda Octavia Combi. Moose test.
The reactions of the Škoda Octavia Combi during the avoidance maneuver have been, in general
unsatisfactory. It is possible that this version with natural gas, due to its greater weight, has a behavior different from that of the lighter versions.
While the reference speed that we took at the start of the cones course has been normal,
the Octavia Combi demands the driver attention and sufficient skill to control the movements of the body.
The stability control acts with little intensity and, although we managed to pass without knocking down cones on this occasion,
it was not the usual tonic
The driver had to correct, at the last moment, a sudden skid of the rear wheels, since they always tend to slide.
As we increase the speed of entry to the exercise, the reactions of the car worsen ostensibly.
It is not easy then to control the oversteer with the steering wheel, neither after the second sharp turn nor, finally, after the third.
These reactions coincide with those we have obtained in other models of the Volkswagen Group that do not necessarily share a platform
such as the Volkswagen Polo or the SEAT Arona, and contrast with those we obtained with the Škoda Scout that we tested a few months ago, which were opposite and much more satisfactory.
Slalom
During the slalom we did not notice any stability problems when making fast and continuous turns.
The adjustment of the suspension allows some balancing of the body,
and the transfer of weight is not immediate, but the absence of intervention of the stability control allows to make the whole maneuver quickly and smoothly.
