Today we're gonna be looking at and installing the Stage 1 Interior LED Lighting Kit for
2015 and newer Mustangs.
This kit offers an easy and inexpensive way to update your interior lightning to cool
white LED lights.
These lights are gonna be more powerful, so they'll be brighter and give a more uniform
light distribution than your factory bulbs do.
The kit costs about $40 and it's very easy to install.
I'll call it a one out of three wrenches in difficult meter.
You guys can start the install with any lights.
We're gonna start the install with the vanity lights right here which are on the other side
of the sun visor.
So, we're gonna flip the sun visor down, pull this up.
I'm going to use a pick.
If you guys don't have a pick like this, you can use a really small, thin flathead screwdriver
if you wanted to.
The pick just makes it a little bit easier.
All right.
So, we gonna start by removing this light cover here.
So, we're just gonna put our pick underneath and pry the cover back.
All right.
And we're gonna grab this side while we're at it.
So, there are two ways that you can get to these bulbs.
These bulbs are really small, so if you guys wanted to, you could undo the Phillips head
screws that are here and actually remove this entire piece and it will reveal the bulbs
as a whole.
I'm going to try to use a pair of pliers and grab the bulbs out without doing that.
You're literally just gonna pull the bulbs out of the sockets and then we're going to
swap them out for our new LED bulbs.
Now, we're gonna take our new bulb and slide it into place.
It will just click into place like that.
Same thing for this side, just slide our bulb and click it into place.
Then, our light covers are just going to snap back into place.
That's literally all it's gonna take for the vanity lights.
So, now we are done with those and from here I'm gonna move on to the map lights.
So, there are two ways you guys can replace the map lights.
If you wanted to, you can leave this intact and you can actually do it through the lens
here.
I think it's a little bit easier just to pull this entire thing down and get to the socket
that way.
So, if you guys are gonna do this, you might just need the help of a little flathead screw
driver.
And this will just pull down.
You can grab either the front or the rear and pull this down.
And then, this way you'll have access to the lights through the sockets and you don't have
to worry about trying to go through the lens on the other side.
All right.
So, we're just going to pull the entire bulb and socket out from here.
Now, that we have it out, we can just pull our bulb out.
I just wanna let you know that since these are LED bulbs, there is polarity to them.
So, if you end up installing all of your bulbs and you go back and you notice that some of
them aren't working, I would just go back in, flip the bulb over and try plugging it
back in and then it should work for you.
We're gonna take our new bulb.
So, our bulb was gonna click into place like that and once we have it in the socket, we
can get it back into its housing.
And it'll click into place.
So, real quick, I'm gonna put this back up into place because I wanna show you guys a
comparison of our stock bulb versus the new LED lighting.
Right away you can see a big difference in just the color of light alone.
So, the Stage 1 Lighting Kit actually gives off a cool white light and you can see that's
very different than your stock yellowish-orange type of light.
The other thing is, when you switch over to an LED setup, the LED bulbs give off a more
even light distribution.
The other thing to look at here is that your LED lighting kit is much brighter than your
stock lightning.
So, the stock lightning is rated at 35 lumens, the Stage 1 LED Lighting Kit is rated at 55
lumens.
So, you get a big upgrade in brightness alone.
If you guys didn't think that the Stage 1 Lighting Kit was bright enough for you, there
is a Stage 2 Lighting Kit that's actually rated at 92 lumens.
So, while you can see that the Stage 1 Kit is an upgrade for sure over the stock lightning,
if you wanted to go even brighter, there is a Stage 2 option.
Now, that you guys saw the comparison, we're gonna move forward and do the other map light.
So, we're just gonna go ahead, pull this down again.
We're going to pull the socket out and then we're gonna pull our bulb out.
Grab our new bulb.
The bulb will just click into place.
We're going to return the socket, snap that back into place, we'll get our housing snapped
back into place and that's gonna do for the map lights.
Passenger side vanity lights are gonna install the same way.
We'll flip our sun visor down.
I'll pull it out so you guys can see it.
We're going to take our pick.
We will remove our lens cover.
We will do the same thing on this side.
I'm gonna try to get these bulbs without removing this piece right here, but we'll see how it
works.
We'll grab our new bulbs and slide them into place.
And there we go.
They'll click into place.
We will put our covers back on.
And our vanity lights are done.
Next, we're gonna move on to the glove box light, and I will say that this one is a little
bit tricky because it is in a hard spot.
So, we'll open the glove box.
It's gonna be right up here in the left-hand corner.
So, in order to get this out, I'm just gonna drop this down, give myself a little bit more
room here.
So, I'm gonna use my little pick here and I'm actually going to use this to help me
pop the light bulb out.
Grab one of our new bulbs.
And snap that into place.
All right.
So, with our light bulb clicked into place, we are going to push this back up, close our
glove box up, and all that's left is the trunk light.
The way that I'm gonna approach the trunk light and the easiest way that I can tell
you guys do it at home, is to actually remove the entire housing with the bulb in it.
Once that's down and dangling, you can disconnect the electrical connection, take the housing
with the bulb in it and then remove the bulb from there.
Trying to do it as it's hanging from the top of the trunk makes it a little bit harder,
so I just think it's easier if you remove it that way.
All right.
So, I'm gonna use the pick, pull down my light housing.
I will disconnect it from the connector, swap the bulb out down here.
So, I'm gonna use the pick for this too, just help me push the bulb out.
Once that bulb's popped out, you can take your new bulb.
Clip it into place.
Reconnect our electrical connection and pop our housing back into place.
That's gonna wrap up this review and install.
For all things Mustang, make sure you keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
