This isn't your Grandpa's Lexus – or so the company would have you believe.
This is the all-new 2018 LS sedan, flagship of the range.
It's angular and angry-looking because Lexus really wants to rid the brand of its somewhat boring image.
The first version of the LS in 1989, put Lexus on the map.
It trounced its German rivals for all-out luxury.
With this fifth generation model Lexus wants to trounce the Germans again
but this time the focus is on handling and performance.
Strange then that this is the first LS without a V8 engine.
Instead there's a new twin-turbo V6, which is plenty quick, but the LS won't win any drag races.
First impressions?
Well, the handling is pretty sharp, a total opposite of the old LS,
and it's almost fun to drive.
But in trying to outdo the Germans for sportiness
the LS has sacrificed some of the supreme comfort that made the old model stand out.
If you're tired of the usual German suspects though, it's worth a test drive.
