My name's John Ford and I'm a research scientist here at the pacific biological station in
Nanaimo, and I head up the whale research program for fisheries and Oceans Canada in
the Pacific region and our primary role here in my group is to study all the different
whale, dolphin and porpoise species on the west coast of Canada especially the species
that are listed as endangered or threatened under the species at risk act so our task
is to try and get out on the water, find the whales, estimate how many there are, find
out where their habitats are and how they use the habitats, what they feed on and so
on so that we can better protect them.
So there's various techniques we use, a big one is called photo identification where we
get a big telephoto lens on a camera and drive parallel to the whale; not close enough to
disturb it but close enough to get a very high quality photograph, and using natural
markings that occur on each individual we can actually do a mug shot for each animal
and track it from year to year.
A big part of my work is also underwater acoustics so we have submerged recorders that we put
out for a year at a time and they tell us how often and where whales like blue whales
and fin whales tend to be.
With killer whales it's even better because killer whale sounds tell us what population
of killer whale it is and there's different populations on our coast and even what family
group is present because each family group of the salmon eating residents type of killer
whale has a unique dialect and we can actually identify it, right down to the family group,
whose out there acoustically.
What we were just listening to is the underwater dialect of a killer whale pod that lives off
northern Vancouver Island.
This other example that I'll play now is a different pod that lives off southern Vancouver
Island, it doesn't mix but you can hear the different dialects here.
I got kind of turned on to whales when I was a young lad growing up near Victoria and seeing
killer whales swimming by the boat, and of course we were all terrified because everybody
knew in those days that they were dangerous animals and they would tip the boat over and
eat you right away and of course that was part of the whole mythology about killer whales
which we new know is completely wrong.
So for the last 40 years of my career being able to work in the early stages of this scientific
awakening of what these killer whales are all about to the point now that we know so
much more about them - still lots to learn but its been such a fortunate opportunity
over my career to have been part of that.

The Ford GT drives the iconic Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway (and tackles the Arctic Circle Raceway) - Duration: 11:16.
Ford Presents
Europe's Greatest Roads
The Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway
And Europe's Greatest Circuits
The Arctic Circle Raceway, Norway
Filmed using professional drivers
in a controlled environment
Always obey local driving laws
Starring the Ford GT
So here we are
Ford
Ford GT
on the Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway
Ford GT on this road is
just out of this world, it really is.
You can't drive too fast on this road
because they've got very low speed limits
but it absolutely doesn't matter
because the scenery
as you can see from our film
is utterly beguiling around here.
The Atlantic Ocean Road
on the west coast of Norway
is truly one of the world's most incredible roads
and originally it was meant to be a railway line
not a road at all.
Having pondered the idea for several decades
Norwegian government
abandoned their plans to link the villages of
Kårvåg and Vevang by rail
and in 1983
they began to build a road to do so instead.
And on July 7 1989
the now world-famous Atlantic Road
also known simply as the 64 was completed.
At a cost of just over 120 million Norwegian kroner
The road itself is only five and a bit miles long
but it features a series of surreal-looking viaducts
and causeways
and eight different bridges
that really do fray the outer edges of your imagination.
It's an extraordinary road to drive
in any car
but in a bright yellow Ford GT
with 647 bhp
and two big black stripes on its roof
well it doesn't get much better than this quite frankly.
I mean look at this place
it is unbelievable!
I don't know,
I'm not sure there are many more beautiful places on earth
and I'm not sure there are many better
more beautiful roads on earth
than the Atlantic Ocean Road.
So anyway part two
we need to get up to the Arctic Circle Raceway
to go and break the lap record.
To reach the Arctic Circle Raceway
I drove the GT 500 miles north
Past the town of Trondheim
and then along another amazing series of roads
called the E39
and the E6.
I have to be honest
it really was an absolute blast.
The GT looked
and sounded
and just was
a quite incredible thing to witness on those roads
and then we met a nice man
who had a very smart looking
replica GT40
in full gulf colours.
The Arctic Circle Raceway
is the northernmost racetrack in the world
and it sits just 19 miles
outside the Arctic Circle itself.
It was designed, built and opened in 1995
by a collection of local engineers
and nowadays it's used mostly for bike racing
and it really is one heck of a track
with 13 corners
most of which are really fast and flowing.
Plus, there's a tighter section between turns 4 and 5
which is actually meant to replicate
the best bits at Laguna Seca
and in a Ford GT ...
... it's pretty damn exciting.
So this is it, the Arctic Circle Raceway.
This is the main reason that we came to Norway in the first place.
I have to say
it's pretty special!
With 647 bhp from its 3.5 liter twin-turbo v6
the GT has massive straight line performance
for sure
but if anything it's the cars aerodynamic qualities
that distinguish it most,
relative to other road cars.
This is what makes it so rapid
around a circuit like the Arctic Circle Raceway.
At its core sits a carbon fiber tub
but there's active aero at the front
and rear.
Plus a vast carbon ceramic brake disc
at each corner.
All up the GT weighs just a little bit less than 1,400 Kg
and its top speed
is 216 miles an hour.
0 to 60 miles an hour
takes less than three seconds
which is pretty astonishing
for a car that's rear-wheel drive.
But the grip this car has got ...
the composure it's got ...
... just blows your mind
it really is a proper piece of work
and it suits this track
down to the ground.
The main reason we came here
all this way ...
to within 15 kilometres of the Arctic Circle.
Is to try and set a new lap record for this track
The current record stands at one minute 41 seconds
I'm not going to try and break that lap record for Ford
but I know a man who is
and I know that he almost undoubtedly will
and that Stefan Mücke
one of Ford's Le Mans drivers.
I think he's going to break the lap record by huge amount
to be honest.
But that's not my duty that Stefan's duty
so basically, over to you mister Mücke.
Speed Limit End
So after just a couple of sighting laps in the GT
Ford's Le Mans ace, Stefan Mücke
was already down into the 1 minute 38s
Which meant that he and the GT
had already smashed the lap record
before either of them had even got properly started
but then Mücke did what racing drivers do
he climbed out ...
had a bit of a think ...
and then said he could easily go quicker still.
So, the tire pressures were dropped a bit
and back out he went
visibly trying quite a bit harder this time.
And here is the unbroken footage
of his fastest lap
with data and footage all captured
by the smart new Ford Performance App.
And so precisely 1 minute 36.29 seconds later
that was that
Stefan Mücke and the Ford GT
had a new lap record to their names
and our week-long adventure
in this incredible country
with this extraordinary car
was over.
And with that
we put the car back in the truck
gave it one last look for good luck
and we left Norway much as we'd found it.
Which is to say a very beautiful country
that has some of the most extraordinary roads
on earth ...
and some of the nicest people
you could ever wish to meet.

iPhone 8 giveaway : Ford Figo S, Abarth Punto : The Cars We Should Be Buying - Duration: 10:56.
Try as I may how can I announce without announcing that I won't be making an
announcement! BRO! We're back! Ooo What is this place? Why are we wearing the same outfit?
Does that seem a little familiar to you? Well of course, it's familiar, most certainly we were here
a couple of months ago some time back when... Baleno RS vs. Polo GT TSI!
That's right when he chose the RS over the TSI and created an unrest among
enthusiasts. Me!? You were the one who couldn't choose a winner and you kept
these wonderful people waiting on another car! Even worse, we pissed off our
Bossman, Ninad Mirajgaonkar!
What the hell is wrong with you guys?
Idiots! Nincompoops! You're supposed to drive cars! Not dance around them!
Be serious guys!
Everything we say here today will be either in black or white
and this time we'll get you the car that you have been waiting on - the Ford Figo S!
The petrol Figo S is the car you should just totally ignore. This! What a car!
This cabin, this great air-conditioner, the clutch is great, the steering rack, well even
though it's an electrically assisted rack
it is easily one of the best, if not the best in the segment. Changes on the
inside - red stitching on the steering, the seats, ooh! a bigger roof spoiler and how
can I forget, the suspension. But the Figo S what they've essentially done is fit
the UK spec suspension, stiffened up the anti-roll bars, drop the suspension a
little bit, put stiffer springs as well, they've accommodated bigger tires and
this makes all the difference!
With the gearbox throws are nice and short and with this engine you always
are in the sweet spot of the power band
With the added suspension and the added changes to the car, it weighs 14 kilos
more over the standard Figo but that added weight well, it really masks it well.
You don't really feel it in the corners. There's lot of great progression, lot of good feedback.
Such a great driving experience and as you can tell by the look on my face, I am
just having a blast. I guess it's time for us to summarize then folks for all
of us who had been complaining of the lack of good fun family cars, news flash!
Ford's still making them. Well I just hope they're not charging as a bomb for it
then. Not at all because at Rs 7.2 lakh the Ford Figo S diesel is cheaper
than the Ignis diesel and for all the things that you get new on the inside
the reworked suspension and all that jazz, well this one costs the same as, wait
for it, the standard Figo! What!? Well I guess you have a winner then! Yep, said in
black and white, if it were my white money, I would put it on this white car!
Pack up! Let's go! I'm hungry! Hey Ray, is the hot? Nevermind, let's go, I am hungry!
Wait a second, you said that the Figo has cost the same as the standard
Figo! How is that possible? Well they've taken off four airbags!
What? Four airbags
are important bro! Yeah but then it still gets 2 airbags, right? The Baleno RS and Polo
GT TSI also get two airbags. Yeah but it can't be the winner then! Oh dude come
on they're selling 500 of these cars Figo s don't you want them to be selling
more cars? It's a good car! Not a winner bro! Oh you want to see a winner? Yeah!
We're gonna go back! What?
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the most powerful hatch then manufactured in
India - the Abarth Punto! The Abarth Punto then is in a different league altogether
compared to its competition because it offers more, a lot more! By a lot more I
presume he means the 1.4 liter Tjet petrol engine. So if you have someone
telling you that this engine is the same from Fiat Linea, well not really because
it's in a different state of tune and comes equipped with a much larger
turbocharger. So in this configuration, the Abarth
Punto dishes out 145 horses and 212 Nme of torque which means that
this car is going to catapult itself to a 100 kmph mark in a mere
8.8 seconds and to extract that performance, we upsize to Michelin
performance rubber - Primacy 3 ST's. This car here ladies and gentlemen gives me the
joys and the charms of an old school hydraulic steering setup, now this car
also gets four disc brakes remember the Polo GT TSI or the Ford Figo S
get drum breaks at the back, not this one
so there's plenty of braking power, 16 inch scorpion rims which don't just
happen to be the largest but they also happen to be the best-looking of the lot
reworked suspension like the Ford Figo S totally irons of these small to medium
road undulations and keeps the car very composed, very planted, even at high speeds
While keeping this body rolls completely in check.
The nice suspension, the great steering and the braking should mean that overall
as a package the Abarth Punto is great but it isn't! Every single time you floor the throttle, it
struggles to put the power down, the A pillar is in the way of my vision, the
space down there at the pedals is really cramped up, this display screen looks
like calculator, I still have to figure out what these three buttons are the
climate controls mean, there are very few cubby holes and what about ESP or
traction control for small things like parking sensors? Getting into a good driving
position is quite a task
but will I buy the car? Yes! Should you buy the car?
Yes! Because this car needs you
So the Abarth is the winner then, huh? No one's winning Glen, because we're all
losing!
You see that's the point that I'm trying to make with the Ford Figo S!
The Figo S still has some time left but the Abarth Punto, its fate is nearly
sealed and that's because ever since the Punto Abarth has been launched in our
market, well, it hasn't really done well, and as we speak today, the production has
stopped. Sure, they say they'll be manufacturing the car again but then
there's no telling for how long, and the point I'm trying to make here is this, if
us enthusiasts want the Indian automotive market to usher itself into
the dawn of a new beginning then we've got to make the right choices and if you
don't show awareness and understanding for good cars, good cars will never be made
at all! Thank you for watching PowerDrift, folks do remember to subscribe to
PowerDrift if you want good videos made at all until next time! Ciao!

The 3 Best Mustang Stock Length X-Pipes For 2015 - 2017 Ford Mustang GT - Duration: 7:16.
Hey, guys, I'm Stephanie with americanmuscle.com and I'm gonna show you guys my Top Stock Length
X-Pipes for the 2015 and newer GT.
And I've picked these x-pipes based off of my personal experience, customer reviews,
and the popularity of the x-pipe.
You do have a handful of options when it comes to x-pipes for the S550 GT.
So if you don't know where to start or you don't know exactly what you're looking for,
I'm hoping that this video will help you out with some.
So I'll walk you through my three different picks and explain a little bit about each
x-pipe.
I'm not gonna go into full detail about the x-pipes since this isn't a product video,
but if you guys want more information about any of the items that I talk about in this
video, always feel free to visit the product page and check them out more for yourself.
And, of course, if you guys want to see more videos like this one or some other cool content
or anything Mustang-related for that matter, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel,
American Muscle Videos.
X-pipes for the S550 offer a way to replace the factory resonator and still keep your
cats.
Swapping out the resonator mid-pipe for a traditional style mid-pipe like an x-pipe
is a fast and easy way to make a big change in your Mustang's exhaust without having to
purchase an entirely new exhaust system.
Replacing the resonator with an x-pipe can totally change the sound of the car even with
the stock axle-back still installed.
You're also gonna be freeing up some exhaust flow and losing a little bit of weight all
at the same time, since a factory resonator is heavy.
You're looking at about losing 25 pounds.
Now installing an x-pipe this way does mean that you will be cutting the factory resonator
out and putting the x-pipe in as a replacement.
But it's not difficult to do and it is a very cost-effective way to get the desired results.
As usual, with any exhaust piece, you always have a few different things to consider when
you're shopping.
You have to consider materials because that's gonna make a difference, and the diameter,
are you looking for a 3 inch x-pipe that'll bolt up to a 3 inch cat-back or do you need
to keep the stock 2.5 inch diameter?
I also have to say that the sound that you're expecting from a cut and clamp x-pipe is gonna
be pretty similar across the board if you leave the rest of your exhaust stock, and
we'll show you what these sound like with the stock axle-back installed and with an
aftermarket axle-back.
As you'll see, what's gonna change the sound and the tone and the volume between the x-pipes
is an axle-back or a cat-back.
So if you have or you're planning on changing other components of your exhaust, just keep
that in mind.
Typically speaking though, an x-pipe is gonna produce more volume and a raspier note than
an h-pipe would.
So if you're looking for that volume and maybe a little bit of a raspy note you're gonna
want an x-pipe.
Overall, I would say that a cut and clamp x-pipe like these with the stock axle-back
still installed will be a two out of five on the loudness meter.
So let's take a look at my first pick.
The first x-pipe that we're gonna talk about is the SR Performance Cut and Clamp Resonator
Delete X-Pipe.
Here's what it sounds like.
This is perfect for someone that's looking for a change in exhaust note, but that's on
a budget at the same time.
This is the most budget-conscious x-pipe that's currently available on the website.
Now, as with all of the other x-pipe options, you can reuse your factory cats with this
mid-pipe, so you're still going to be smog legal.
This is a 2.5 inch mandrel-bent 409-grade stainless steel.
That means that it's gonna be great for those cars that are daily drivers or those that
see all different types of weather conditions other than the sun.
It's gonna offer great corrosion resistance and have a longer life than an aluminized
x-pipe would.
So overall, this is a great option if you're on a budget, want to keep this stock exhaust
size, and still want stainless steel.
If you wanted to consider different materials, you could always check out the Heartthrob
Cut and Clamp Resonator Delete X-Pipe instead.
Take a listen to it.
Much like the SR Performance option, this reuses the stock cats and maintains a factory
2.5 inch diameter, but instead of being stainless steel you're looking at aluminized instead.
The aluminized isn't gonna resist corrosion as well over time, and that may translate
into a shorter life if your car is a daily driver, if you drive in the rain, and if your
car sees things like snow or road soil.
The tradeoff with that is that this does have a lower price tag if you compare it across
the board to other x-pipe options.
Now, it does cost a little bit more than the SR Performance option but relatively speaking,
it's still one of the most affordable x-pipe options out there.
But if you want something different than your normal x-pipe setup, you really need to check
out the Corsa Double Helix X-Pipe.
And this is what it sounds like.
This is a 3 inch x-pipe and it's made from 304 stainless steel which is the top of the
line when it comes to exhaust materials.
But what really sets this apart is the design.
You can see that this doesn't look like just a standard x-pipe.
This is Corsa's Double Helix X-Pipe. so the double crossover is gonna change the sound
that his produces.
It gives more of a crisp or raspy sound than a standard x-pipe does.
Do keep in mind though that this is a Corsa product and so you can expect to drop a dime
or two on it.
So those are gonna be my top three choices when it comes to Stock Length X-Pipes for
the 2015 and newer GT Mustang.
Keep in mind that these are just suggestions for you based off of my personal experience
and customer feedback and reviews.
There's a whole product page on the website here that shows you every option that we currently
carry, so these aren't the end all or the be all.
And if you want any more info on any of the mid-pipes that I talked about in this video,
feel free to visit the product page.
I'm Stephanie and don't forget, for all things Mustang keep it right here americanmuscle.com
and make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel American Muscle Videos for more cool
