How to Make a Mini Terrarium | Sophie's World - Duration: 8:32.
Hi I'm Sophie and welcome to my world so recently we had an event where we
went in and we made little tiny terrariums with our clients and it was
so much fun that I thought it would be fun to show you how to make your very
own little tiny terrarium for this project you will need small containers
small rocks or gravel charcoal hammer potting soil little plants like moss and
lichen little figurines a water source such as a spray bottle stick napkins
paper towel q-tips scissors and spoon so these are super fun to make and on my
website www.sophie-world.com I'll have a list of all the little plants that you can use but
basically think tiny like ground covering this is what I've got here is
little ground covering that we can use you want to just make sure that they
have a significant root source so that you can gently take them out of the dirt
and that their roots are still intact that's the one thing that's most
important so you can actually find you know in your backyard you can find some
mosses and lichens and that sort of stuff that that could be used first
thing first you're gonna take your little glassware and I was able to get
my glassware at the dollar store which is you know my favorite place and we're
gonna take some little tiny stones now these can be any kind of stones that you
can find I'm gonna use white ones so that you can see and you're just gonna
make a little layer of stones on the bottom this is to make sure that the
water doesn't get logged down and bogged down in your soil because you don't want
your little plants to rot so we're gonna put some stones down
there and then the next thing we're gonna do is put in a layer of charcoal
now the reason I said you need a hammer is because you can take a regular
charcoal briquette just make sure it's all natural and doesn't have any like
chemicals in it and you can I didn't do it here because it makes so much noise
but basically you put your charcoal briquettes into a plastic bag and then
use a rubber mallet and just bang-bang-bang you do it on the
ground do it on you know a concrete surface or a rock surface or someplace
like that that's nice and sturdy and they'll break up pretty easily and
pretty quickly and you're just gonna take a layer of this and put that right
over top of your rocks the reason we're doing this is because the charcoal helps
to keep that dirt fresh and absorbs any extra moisture and keeps it from
becoming mungy basically nobody wants mungy terrarium so at this at this event
which was really fun people were really getting into this and creating these
little landscapes and stuff they were having so much fun
except they kept calling them planetariums which i thought was pretty
good okay so the next step is we're going to add our plants and our soil so
I'm going to first start putting a little layer and this is just potting
soil you can also do this with succulents now if you were to do this
with succulents what you would want to do is use a cactus soil but we're gonna
be we're gonna be using a little ground covering so I'm gonna actually put a
little bit of the soil in here and then I'm going to use my water source here
which is little spray bottle and moisten that just a little bit not too wet just
a little bit and then I'm gonna take my little guys here and as you can see you
can see those roots in there we're just gonna gently break those roots apart
here cuz I don't need this whole thing I mean I could use this whole thing but
and I'm just gonna place it in there with my fingers get it in there and then
I'm gonna take a little bit more soil go around
make sure that's nice and solid in there you can use a little spoon if you want
to and then again I'm gonna use my water source Moss is great for this especially
if you're using teeny-tiny itty-bitty little figurines like this one right
here I found these I thought these were the cutest thing ever I found these at
this place called Darice and they were mythical creatures and I just fell in
love with them and they look really like look how cute that is a little dragon in
the midst isn't that cute so now the reason that I had suggested that you
have a little paper towel and a stick is to get in there and clean off your sides
a little bit if they start to get a little soil ridden and mungy so you can
just kind of come around with this little paper towel on a stick and just
kind of tamp that down make sure that that's not messing up your glassware and
you can always use a q-tip as well to get in there clean that now we get to
have some fun so I'm gonna add I'm gonna make this my own little Yosemite so I'm
gonna add a big rock here that's my Half Dome okay and then I'm
gonna add a little little gravel here it's gonna be my little water bed my
little water bed this this gravel this really fun colored gravel is actually
the kind of gravel you would find for like fish tanks and it's great it comes
in all these amazing colors and including like these hot pinks and
oranges and things like that then put a couple little white ones in here and
it's pretty inexpensive too you can get a big old bag of it but again you know
you don't have to spend a lot of money can just go out in your backyard
or in nature and find the appropriate things right there in nature
for you so now I get to add my little animals and I also
found these these are so cute aren't they there are little tiny mushrooms and
they actually have this little bit of wire on them which makes it very helpful
because I'm going to cut off about three inches there so that I end up with just
an inch left here that's why I need those scissors and then I can just stick
this down into the soil and they stay wherever I want them to which is great
once again I'm just gonna cut that right there put a second one over here
maybe I'll do one more just because they're fun so we've got our kind of own
little half dome there okay now I could put in my little tiny dragon wouldn't he
be cute but I think I'm gonna put in a bunny instead I love these bunnies and
again I got these at this place called Darice which is an online shop and I
will make sure that there is a link down below and that's that's it that's really
all there is to making your own tiny terrarium so just remember the most
important thing a layer of rocks if you can find it a layer of charcoal if you
can't find the charcoal it's okay then put your dirt then your plant then some
little embellishments and there you have your own tiny little terrarium put that
in your room wouldn't it be nice to just see a little bit of life every morning
when you wake up wonder what they're thinking about down in there hmm

which gives them more abilities they both have the microphone feature to mute
which is just right here on this one and just right here on this one however the
echo dot also has a 3.5 auxiliary cord to connect to other greater sound
systems which this one does not have the Google home Oni works with chromecast
which can connect to your TV and control of that and as well expand your audio
and the equity connects to Amazon fire stake which also connects to your TV if
you're into audiobooks the echo dot reads them back to you but the Google
mini doesn't do that now let's test the i/o on both of them we'll start with the

In today's video, Alfawise takes the spotlight once again with their latest surprising TV
box release, this box carries some new hardware, it carries a new TV chip and it will surprise
you when you see what it can do.
I'm always excited to see what new boxes brings to the industry.
This box is the Alfawise H96 mini, Amlogic T962E, quad core Android 7.1 4K TV box.
After the break, we have a full review of its hardware and features, so stay tuned,
we have more in a moment.

So I'm back, and to get things started, here I have the box that the H96 mini comes in.
Because it's an Alfawise model, it comes in the same package design as the H96 Pro+ and
the H96 max.
There are no specifications printed anywhere on the outside, so I'll just take minute to
do a quick unboxing.
So here's what you get in the box.
You get the H96 Mini itself.
You get this infrared remote.
The remote is similar to other remotes we've seen in previous Alfawise models, and though
it might work well to control and navigate the basic functions of the box, a mini touchpad
keyboard or a wireless air mouse would be a better option.
You get one HDMI cable.
A 5 volts 2 amps universal DC power adapter.
And a users setup guide.
Let's take a look at what ports we get on this box.
If we look to the back, here you can see you have two HDMI ports, an HDMI input and an
HDMI output.
There is 1 RJ45 Ethernet port, an optical audio port, and a DC power input.
To the side, you have 2 USB 2.0 ports 1 audio video port, and a micro SD card slot.
There's nothing on the other side.
To the front, you have a blue LED power light strip that's not very visible.
To the top, you have the Alfawise logo.
And to the bottom, there are lots of ventilation holes.
So I'll now set this box up on my TV, and let's see what the box can do.
So here we are at the startup of the H96 mini, and the box starts with the H96 mini logo,
this is then followed by an Mbox animation which takes a few seconds.
And then you're taken to the launcher.
The design and layout of the launcher has not changed, it's the same launcher used in
all their H96 models.
It comes with a standard navigation bar at the bottom, and a status bar at the top for
easy navigation and multitasking.
The launcher is easy to navigate with large buttons and the option to add and remove shortcuts
to the launcher.
In the apps section, here we have your normal set of system and browsing applications, and
additional apps like Miracast Netflix and KDMC.
There's a new application here which is TV app.
This is simply a secondary display from another media output which utilizes the HDMI input
port on the box.
Here you can see that I plugged in another TV box, however, that's its only feature,
there are no options to record or adjust the screen, or use picture in picture display.
So I'll install my usual set of system and benchmarking applications and then I'll move
on to the next segment.
Welcome back, and to start this segment, let's check to see if the box is rooted.
And it shows that the box is rooted, running on Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system.
With this root access you have the freedom to download and install any app you like from
the Google Play store without restrictions.
I'll also be testing the root permissions later on in this video to see if my gamepad
key mapping application works.
Next we have the DRM information.
The results remain the same as in other boxes, the H96 mini only has support for Google Widevine
and CENC clear key support.
This allows paid subscription apps like Netflix and others to only show in standard quality.
Let's now take a look at some system and hardware information.
It shows that the manufacturer is Amlogic, and the model here is the H96 mini as we already
know.
The box has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage; What is shown here is the remaining
RAM and internal storage after the Android installation and apps installed on the box.
The CPU is a 64bit quad core ARM cortex A53 processor, with a CPU clock range of up to
1.4 GHz.
This is lower than expected, because most boxes run up to 1.5 GHz, this decrease in
clock speed is due to the Amlogic T962E quad core CPU used in this box.
However, the box only has support for 32bit ABIs, which limits the box to 32Bit applications.
The display is powered by the ARM Mali 450 GPU, with a refresh rate of 60hz.
It has support for dual band WiFi, and WiFi direct is supported.
The version of Android is 7.1.2 Nougat.
The box runs cool around 50 to 60° Celsius on normal room temperature, and around 44
to 50° on passive cooling.
The box comes with codecs like H.264 HEVC and VP9 Decoding, codecs needed to play 4K
videos.
That's all for system and hardware information, an I now move on to the benchmarks.
First I have the results of the memory read and write speeds.
The H96 Mini has a Ram copy speed of 2679 MB/s.
The internal storage has a read speed of 67 MB/s and a write speed of 48.
And the SD card slot has a read speed of 14 MB/s and a write speed of 12.
I have the results of the WiFi speed test.
On the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz band, the speeds fell a bit below my maximum Internet connection
of 40MB.
However, the Ethernet LAN connection hit the maximum speed with every try, which means
that this box runs faster on Ethernet connection.
I now show the results of the Antutu benchmark.
And it shows that the H96 Mini got a score of 33717.
This score is a little below average, don't be alarmed by this, keep watching to the end
of the video and you'll see what I mean.
Now the results of the GeekBench 4 CPU benchmark.
The H96 Mini has a GeekBench 4 score of 624 single core, and 1809 multi core.
This score remains consistent with other boxes in its class.
And last I have the results of the Ice storm extreme GPU benchmark.
And it shows that the box got a score of 4151, which is not quite as high, but keep watching
and you be the judge.
That's it for the benchmarks.
I now turn to the streaming applications and the many ways to stream free movies and TV
shows for maximum entertainment.
I'll start with the Kodi application.
The H96 Mini comes pre installed with a custom version of Kodi called KDMC.
And if I go to system information, here you can see the version of Kodi is 17.3.
You can also uninstall KDMC and install the latest version of Kodi from the Google Play
Store if you'd like.
If I go back to the addons section, here you can see that the custom version also comes
with some addons for streaming free movies and TV shows for unlimited entertainment.
Making waves in the industry is movie streaming APKs.
These APKs are separate applications from Kodi, and they provide free movies and TV
shows even better than Kodi in recent times.
Some of these include Terrarium TV.
Show Box.
Mega Box HD.
and MobDro.
Another alternative streaming application is an app called Stremio.
Stremio is a movie streaming application much like an APK but there's a difference, it can
install third party addons.
This feature allows the user to install third party addons in a similar way to the Kodi
application.
The process of installing addons is much easier than how it is done in the Kodi application,
So be sure to check this out, as it could be the next biggest thing in the world of
streaming.
Another form of entertainment on this box is the ability to play 4K videos.
I'll now play a couple of 4K video samples to test the box's 4k playback capabilities.
The 4K video samples ran quite OK, which is really surprising, given that the benchmark
scores are a bit lower than expected, I give the thumbs up for good software optimization
on this box.
I'll now open the YouTube application and run a 4K video sample to see what's the highest
resolution we can get on this box.
The highest resolution you can get on the YouTube application is up to 1080p quality.
For my final demonstration I'm running a high end graphics game.
This game is called God fire rise of Prometheus.
This game uses a lot of system resources, and it's the game I would choose to run on
one of those Rockchip RK3399 boxes.
I decided to run it on this box because I saw the performance earlier in the 4K video
test that got my attention.
So with the graphics set to maximum quality detail, let's take in some gaming action.
Please note, this game contains fighting and blood so parental discretion is advised.
As you can clearly see, I'm just as surprised you are, the H96 Mini played that game flawlessly,
even better than all the TV boxes with much higher benchmarks.
I'm starting to see TV boxes perform much better on less resources and I give the H96
Mini high user experience scores for achieving this level of performance.
I almost forgot, my key mapping application worked well on this box which I also used
to play this game.
And for those of you who also use webcams, they too have permissions and work well on
this box.
So in summary, I would have to say that the new CPU in the H96 Mini surprised me and performed
so well, I am impressed with how well the user experience is on this box on the new
TV chip.
For the third time we have seen a TV box with much lower benchmarks than those high end
boxes, and outperform them in 3D gaming and playing 4K videos.
The root access and permissions allowed me to use both key mapping applications and mirroring
apps, as well as USB webcams work without any problems.
On the flip side, the only issue I had with this box is that it cannot play YouTube in
2K or 4K quality, and the box comes with an infrared remote which really isn't anything
to complain about.
The WiFi hardware used and the reception in this box could have been better.
So as I end my review of the H96 Mini, I would like to say what better way to end 2017 with
a TV box that cost just $59 and can deliver and outperform other high end boxes we have
seen earlier this year.
So I'm giving the H96 Mini two thumbs up and the OK to purchase for performance, user experience
and price.
