[HOT NEWS] Ford Torino King Cobra Prototypes $500,000 - Duration: 2:28.

Late in the 1960's, Dodge came forward with the Challenger Daytona to be showcased at

Nascar's Grand National Series.

At the time, Ford was competing with the Torino Talladega which was not up to par.

The American car company worked diligently to create something that could contend.

Although it never got to see its day on the track, the Ford Torino King Cobra Prototype

was born.

You can now get your hands on one of the two remaining prototypes left for a small price

of $459,000.

Although these are the remaining prototypes, they have been modified to be street legal.

The changes include downsizing the original 460 cubic-inch V8 engine to a 249 cubic-inch

V8.

While the downgrade may seem disappointing, feat not.

The Boss 429 V8 in full race mode produced around 700 horsepower.

So why the failure?

As it would turn out, there was quite a bit of turmoil politically speaking.

Racing budgets for Ford were being cut as the company switched head leaders.

The plans for this particular prototype ended up being sold for a small fee, and remained

untouched and forgotten.

These two prototype vehicles were nearly forgotten in a field before being found and restored.

The custom side panels and special aerodynamic body shape was created by hand.

Recreating these parts made restoration incredibly difficult.
