No no, it wasn't that way.
Cars haven't always been in my circle of interests.
At first I was driving a VW Golf
going from point A to point B.
And the car started to break down
so I had to do something about it.
I couldn't afford giving it to a car service.
Yeah well, a man used to think a little differently then.
But... I started to mend it myself, right?
I succeeded, I restored the car myself and that's how I became keen on cars.
At a certain time, I felt that a good-looking car wasn't enough for me.
I wanted to start driving.
Drift has always been something I was fond of.
I was searching for a good drift-car 'platform'.
BMW? Obvious choice, but as for me - too obvious.
I bought something different. Follow me, I'll show you what's in the garage.
There you go. That's my 'brick'.
Wait a moment, I'll find myself something to sit on.
Wheelwithit. presents
'DRIFT BRICK' An old wagon for drifting.
-Is here fine? -Yup, it's okay.
Good... But hey guys!
Do we need that blende? It's blinding me.
-Alright, is it okay? Can we start recording? -Yes.
Why a Volvo?
The person who inspired me was my brother,
who lives in the USA
and owns a beautiful 242 Turbo.
It's not adapted for drifting, but it looks fantastic.
I've always liked these edgy Volvo bodyworks.
And that is why my choice was 240
precisely the wagon version.
The car was bought for one specific purpose.
This is going to be a drift car.
I bought it in Warsaw for 1000 PLN (~275 USD).
The goal was simple. Drive the car back from Warsaw to Zakopane (~400km) on its' own wheels.
The car did it.
And the following day, the engine and whole interior was out of the car.
All the modifications in the car were made by me.
Only the car electrics and ECU were done by someone else.
In overall, the modification list in this car is so long
that elements left from the stock model are: bodywork,
driveshaft and the real differential.
The rest is made by me
or fitted from some totally different cars.
The engine itself is not Volvo's. But it is also Swedish
because it's from a Saab.
Precisely from a Saab 9000.
It's the B204 engine, a 4-cylinder inline
which stock generates
185 horsepower.
Here it has been well enough built
that it generates 473 HP
and 680 Nm of torque.
A thing worth mentioning is that the engine is NOT forged,
it has stock cranks, stock crankshaft,
and all the parts are stock, apart from slight
cylinder head mods that I made also myself.
Actually, doing modifications to the car
gives me more pleasure than driving it.
This is how it was from the very beginning. And that is why I picked
Volvo 240, which is a car
that requires a tonne of modifications
to make it somehow suitable for drifting.
Otherwise it would be as controllable as a carriage that would roll over in the first corner.
Drift is the thing, that
lets me fully forget about the everyday problems.
There's no better way to escape
all the problems and...
negativity that we have to face everyday.
And to escape the daily routine
connected with job
and some other problems you may encounter.
And that is kind of an antidote for everything,
that at least for me - works perfectly.
When I bought the 'brick' my aim was bright and clear.
I was fulfilling it for
a long time, process of building the car
lasted almost a year.
But I've managed to achieve the goal.
I've managed to realize it the way that was planned at the beginning.
And that is something I wish you all.
-And how was it Łukasz, did you enjoy driving today?
-Yeah, I've enjoyed it especially because nothing broke down :)
-So 'the brick' did very well, we hope that you liked the video
