Auto news on Youtube Aug 25 2017

Hi, I'm Jeff Lyman, from Vivint Smart Home.

We're one of the largest smart home providers in the U.S. and Canada.

I get asked a ton, "What makes a smart home?"

"What's really so cool about it?"

We're going to walk you through this house

and show you all of the different features and functionality

that makes a smart home really awesome.

Come on in!

What makes a smart home really cool

is that your whole house — all the important parts

from heating and cooling, and locks and lights, and everything

are all connected into one digital experience.

There's different places you can interact with that.

It could be your phone or a tablet from anywhere in the world.

Or also like a panel.

And usually most smart home systems have some type of a panel.

This one's really pretty cool

because you can watch video feeds on it

control thermostats, control lights, see who's at the front door

— it does all that stuff.

It's also the main way that security monitoring interacts with you if you're in the home.

So if there's a fire, there's a break in, or flood, or carbon monoxide issues,

you're going to hear a live voice that comes through this and says,

"Mr. So and So, or Mrs. So and So, what's going on?"

"We detected this and this. Do we need to send somebody out?"

And that's huge for peace of mind.

If you're out on the road you want to know somebody's watching over the house.

Or if you're here, in the house, and you're sleeping, and there is an issue,

you've got that extra peace of mind that comes from professional monitoring.

I think it's a really important part of smart home.

Let me show you a few other things.

What is a Smart Home? - Part 2 (Doorbell Camera and Smart Locks) - Duration: 1:45.

One of the coolest parts about smart home

is that it gives homeowners a total front porch experience

of what's going on.

And you need a few different things to do that really well.

And one of them is a doorbell camera.

This is an example of one that actually looks like a regular doorbell

but when someone walks up and hits it,

the homeowners will get a notification on their phone

or the panel would light up and it would say,

"Hey, there's a visitor at your front door."

You swipe right in and instantly you're seeing them

and actually having a two-way talk conversation with them.

And that can be a variety of things

like, oh, it's your in-laws, they've stopped in

but you're 15 minutes away

so you say, "Cool, let me just open the door for you."

Or your neighbor wants to borrow your snow blower

or even a few of those times where someone's at the front door

and you're like, "I don't really want to get that one..."

That gives you the peace of mind to know

who was there and you can decide if you want to get off the couch

or you just want to keep chilling.

So it's got to pair well with other stuff.

And this is the magic of where smart home is more than just one device

but it's a whole bunch of things coming together.

And that is a smart door lock.

So you see that person, you want to let them into your home

you can just swipe over, same app, same phone, same everything

and boom, they've been given access to your house

which is really cool.

A lot of them will actually start recording

even if someone doesn't press the button.

If there is a criminal that wants to come in

they usually will come up near the porch

and kind of peek in and see what's going on

and it records that entire thing whether they hit the button or not.

So, super handy, whether you are upstairs or you're upstate

you can be at your front door from anywhere in the world.

Let me show you a couple of other cool things.

USA News: Is Donald Trump smart? - Duration: 3:42.

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump likes to tell everyone how smart he is.

Take Tuesday night in Arizona when he told a crowd in Phoenix this: "I was a good student.

I always hear about the elite.

You know, the elite.

They're elite?

I went to better schools than they did.

I was a better student than they were."

For the public, Trump's intelligence is a bit more of an open question -- and becoming

more open with each passing day in the White House.

A new Quinnipiac University national poll showed that 55% of Americans think Trump is

intelligent while 43% say he is not.

Which is interesting.

But not nearly as interesting as how rapidly the number of people who think Trump is smart

has dropped since November 2016.

In a November 22 Quinnipiac poll -- two weeks to the day after the election -- 74% said

Trump was "intelligent" while just 21% said he was not.

That number has steadily declined over Trump's first 7 months in office.

By March it had dipped into the high 50s and its continued to fall steadily.

Why does it matter?

It might not!

After all, being "intelligent" is not a prerequisite of being President.

And intelligence -- who has it and who doesn't -- is a very, very subjective measure.

(Do street smarts count as being "intelligent"?

Or is it a pure IQ measure?

Something in between?

Neither?)

And, some of the question about how smart Trump winds up being a proxy for whether or

not you like him.

Nine in 10 Republicans say Trump is intelligent while just 25% of Democrats say the same.

Fifty-five percent of independents say Trump is intelligent.

Still, the numbers -- and the rapid drop in them -- are interesting and telling.

Take, for example, the fact that 42% of Democrats said Trump was intelligent in January and

only 25% say that now.

Or that 70% of independents called Trump "intelligent" in January, but only 55% say so now.

It's impossible to offer a foolproof conclusion that explains those dips.

But, it is absolutely true that in the wake of the 2016 election that even those who disliked

Trump also viewed him as a master reader and manipulator of the American public.

The default assumption was that he had been -- and would continue to be -- playing three-dimensional

chess, and that Democrats would need to up their game to match him,.

It is also beyond doubt that Trump's first 7 months have been marked by chaos -- and

an erosion of the belief that he is a strategic mastermind playing a game no one else can

possibly understand.

As I have written, there's at least as good a possibility that Trump is playing zero-dimensional

chess as he is playing the three dimensional kind.

Again, being the smartest person in the country -- whether or not Trump is -- isn't how you

get elected president.

(Sorry, Stephen Hawking!)

But that doesn't make figuring out why Trump's numbers on the "intelligence" question any

less fascinating.

SMART Train in Marin County: Stay Alert, Stay Alive - Duration: 0:34.

♫ ♫ ♫

Hey Marin County.

As this video shows, SMART trains move fast.

Always look both ways and don't expect to hear a train horn.

Tracks through Novato and San Rafael are now a quiet zone.

That means the train will only sound its horn when it leaves the station or in an emergency.

Never walk along the tracks and be careful at crossings.

Especially, do not wear headphones near the track.

Stay alert and stay alive.

What Smart Bulldogs Bring to Bryant (and What They Leave at Home) - Duration: 0:47.

Hi Bryant Class of 2021!

I'm Allie from the Class of 2017 here with some advice for move in day.

Here are a few things you should bring with you to campus.

You'll want to bring a suit for different networking events and presentations.

You'll use it a lot throughout your four years.

You'll also want shower shoes. Your feet will thank you for taking them.

You'll want to bring twin XL sheets to dress your bed.

And a UL approved surge protector for all of the gadgets in your room.

Which might include a portable fan to keep your space cool and dry throughout the year.

Here are a few things that can stay at home as you pack up.

You can leave a backpack and laptop at home because you'll get a new set through campus

within your first few days.

You can also leave a printer at home knowing that you'll have access to a bunch on campus

that you can use with your student ID.

And your pets can stay at home too because Tupper will be around to keep you company.

That's my advice for move-in day. Go Bulldogs!
