Auto news on Youtube Feb 19 2019

this a new year time time to get away time to be with some family after all

look look around us look at the snow we've got snow everywhere

it's coming down heavy but what better time of the year than to enjoy some snow

like this get out on some machinery and we'll get started with us you'll notice

look at the x5 over there it's just full of snow first of all we're gonna talk

about some of the ways that you don't want to handle the snow on your car if

you care at all about your car you will use the following tool but definitely

what you don't want to use is this of course you've got a broom a good

old-fashioned push broom I see a lot of people using this all the time on their

cars bad trouble bad news that's gonna scratch your paint all the heck you also

don't really want to use this this is okay just for a light dusting on the

window but when you got that kind of snow like you see all over the car over

there you do not want to use this on your paint job it's gonna scratch it up

so let's Chuck that too I'm gonna show you what I use as part of to clean the

snow and as well when the car you can use it in the summer too because when

the car is clean and you've got it rinsed off instead of using a chamois

I'll show you what I use and that's this wonderful tool right here

look at this we have this wonderful little backpack snow blower here this is

basically a blower a leaf blower but I'm gonna show you how that whole thing

works when you use it on a car

yeah let's get this guy going there's lots of new snow of course as you can

see so I'm going to take the quad out here and we're gonna clean some snow

real quick first

okay let's go for ride now we got her all cleared out so let's go start it

nice Oh what do we have here guys Oh No we've got ninja lights not

clearing

it's running smoothly it's only minus four degrees

let's check the iDrive business here see if we got anything on the codes

nothing wrong there

try this BC let's try the BC button

this tells me that I have on error

okay I guess I'm gonna plug in got to grab the OB DS reader and let's go and

see what happens okay now I got the reader see if I can plug that all

together alright okay got the reader now let's plug this in under here

see what's going on here

p20 9f the dtc malfunction I don't know p 0 P 2 0 9f what is that it shows two

pages on there as well let's see what else we can find on there

same thing okay okay well I'm gonna call out a day for now okay guys so I I

looked up the code actually because when you use these generic obd code readers

they don't always give you the exact BMW conversion or what the whole description

is and that code I looked it up online and the way it turns out it has to do

with something with the heating element of the diesel exhaust fluid so that is

unfortunately a common problem with some of these diesel engines in the BMW world

is that heater Indy whether it's a module or whether it's the heater itself

we're gonna have to dig a little deeper guys in the next video and I'll let you

know kind of what we end up finding but at the end of the day it looks like

we've had another malfunction in the bmw x5 a 70 diesel so you make sure you

stick around to the next video guys because you're gonna want to find out

what I do next with this fall code on the BMW diesel but for now I'm gonna

show you around a little bit here's my second home out in the acreage basically

a van a home that I'd like to get away on the weekends for this essentially is

this a little place that I like to get away

you know when you see it a lot of my videos you'll notice the house that I

often have in the videos is a house that I live in that's my primary residence

city well sometimes I like to get out of the city and this is the home that I do

that out so you know as time goes on we follow the vlogs guys you're all gonna

experience and I'll give you a tour of this house at some point as well but

just make sure like I said if you like the vlog you want to hear more about the

BMW here and the results of how we come to sort the issue out here definitely

make sure you come back and thanks everybody who is an existing subscriber

for coming back again and sticking around this long as well if you're not a

current subscriber I really hope you hit that subscribe button and stick around

and make sure you come back and check video upon video

Why Not to Buy a BMW - Duration: 5:20.

rev up your engines, Steve from Atlanta Georgia, what

about buying a bmw x5 is it a good move, only if you live in an alternative

universe, the bmw x5 was one of the highest repair cars in the world, they

are endless money pits as they age, and the stinker about that is, okay say okay

I'll buy new one then, then I don't worry about it till it breaks down, well they

still break down when they get to be five to eight years old anyways, but they

lose so much value, that if you really want to BMW x5 you're better to lease a new

one for a couple of years and then get rid of it, and you lose the lease payment

but that's a lot less than it will depreciate in those years of ownership

there aren't one of the worst cars in the world when it comes to endless money

pits, when I used to do a TV gig one of the anchors there and those anchors made

you know three-four hundred grand a year for talking on TV, he had one he got

rid of it in a year he said, oh god it was a

money pit I didn't want that thing anymore, and he made that kind of money

and even he didn't like it, Anders possio says

Scotty what's your opinion on a Ford Escape 05-0, and why does the

Pontiac Vibe cost less than a Toyota Matrix, would a Pontiac Vibe be a safe buy

okay we'll start with the Pontiac, they cost less because they were Pontiacs now

most of the vehicle was a Toyota Matrix, engine, transmission, brakes, and all that

stuff, but a lot of body parts were made by Pontiac, its value is less it's just

just the way that it goes, it could be a very good buy because it's got a Toyota

engine, transmission, and brakes, so if you don't mind the slightly uglier Pontiac

body style on it, go ahead and get one you know they could be good cars, now Ford escapes

I've had customers that had ford escapes and loved them, they can last

quite some time, you can get a used one cheaply enough, if you're thinking about

buying a used one though, pay a mechanic like me to check it out first, and the

main thing is, have them check out that transmission cuz that's the weakest

thing, if the transmissions off a little you wouldn't buy it, but if an older

person drove it or the person didn't beat the car much, they can last a long

time, I got a lady who's got one that has 240,000

miles, original engine and tranny, but I've seen kids burn them out faster, so

you want to have that checked out if you're gonna buy one, lele says scotty what

do you think about safety between a big SUV truck frame and cars, I've seen car

crashes usually the cars are hurt badly, should I get a bigger SUV, of course it's pure

physics and logic the bigger vehicle you are in, the safer you're

gonna be in a wreck, when things get in in a wreck, all the energy, kinetic energy

of that speeding vehicle has to be

dissipated somehow, if you're in a big vehicle and you run into something your

energy is going to be dissipated by crushing the smaller vehicle, and it's

gonna push it around, if you're in a small vehicle, you're gonna get crushed

more, now look at a Formula One racecar they're tiny, but those guys can fly

through the air and they come apart, but they're in the safety capsule and so

they can survive it, cars aren't that way, so of course you are safer in a bigger

SUV that's just common sense, that's the way that they are, and the modern ones all

have airbags, so I mean if you're really

worried you're better off with a bigger vehicle then a smaller one, that's just

the way that it goes, the smaller ones are safer than they used to be, because they

have all crumple zones, but they still you're gonna be safer in a bigger

vehicle with a crumple zone, than a smaller one, mr.

Rodriguez says Scotty, 2015 Mustang EcoBoost reliability, 27,000

miles is it a money pit, well you know it depends if somebody took care of it or

not, the problem with EcoBoost is, it's got GDI injectors, it has turbo chargers

on it and puts more stress on the engine, so

you have to change the oil religiously and use good high-quality gasoline, if

that was done it can be a reliable vehicle, but it's not a vehicle that

you're gonna abuse and think, well I don't have to change the oil much, on

a vehicle like that I'd change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles,

I'd use full synthetic oil and I would buy hi test gas, because they run

better with hi test gas with those turbochargers on them, you can't just run

the cheapest gas, the cheapest oil and

expect them to be reliable, you do have to take more care of those things than

you do of a regular one, 115 says Scotty how tall are you, well that's an

interesting story because I used to be taller, I'm getting old and I have shrunk

I used to be 511 and a half, and now I'm like five ten and a half, but part of it

was when I was younger I had a BSA lightning that was chopped, and it had no

shock absorbers on the back just bolt on struts, so every time you hit a bump it

compressed your back bone, and I was going to school in Canada at the time in

Toronto, and one of my friends was doing this research on Eskimos and it

turns out these Eskimos had all shrunk one and a half to two inches when they

started to get snowmobiles, cuz snowmobiles don't have much of a suspension

system, and their riding them on the ice pack bang bang bang and it shrunk them and compressed

their vertebrate, so that happened to me too

it's, a warning to people you really want shock absorbers on your vehicles, or all

that banging over time, special if you drive fast, it's gonna make you shrink

somewhat, so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos,

remember to ring that Bell!

Sykes 'pleasantly surprised' by BMW test pace - Duration: 2:52.

One-time WSBK champion Sykes, who switches to the Shaun Muir Racing-run BMW squad for 2019 after a long stint at Kawasaki, concluded the penultimate day of pre-season running with the second-fastest time in the afternoon session

That left him fourth in the combined timesheets for the day, less than six tenths adrift of pacesetter Alvaro Bautista (Ducati) and a little over a tenth slower than former Kawasaki teammate Jonathan Rea

Sykes was in the minority of riders that improved during the latter session, and said that he hadn't been targeting a fast time - but was nonetheless encouraged to end up in fourth place "naturally"

"Essentially we're working with the base bike that we've been building on in the previous tests and progressing it here," Sykes told WorldSBK

com. "All things considered, today's gone really well. "In the second session it was quite windy but the temperature came up and we were able to improve quite a lot

At the moment my feeling with the S1000RR is very strong. "At the moment I'm trying to make sure our base package is consistent

We have some items we will use to try and improve that base set-up, but we're here at Phillip Island, and at the back of mind we're working towards the race weekend to have a smoother race weekend and less issues

"For now I have to say where we ended up, I'm pleasantly surprised, because it just came naturally, enjoying riding, and like I said my target was to work on our own issues and that naturally put us at the sharp end

"This wasn't the target, we just ended up there, and we'll look to continue tomorrow in the two remaining sessions

" Sykes' 2019 teammate Markus Reiterberger was ninth-fastest on the second of the BMWs on Monday

WSBK testing continues on Tuesday at Phillip Island ahead of the opening round of the season at the Australian track on February 22-24
