Picking the t-shirt winner of last episode.
In this 5th episode we will speak with
Traian who drifts since drifting became a thing in Romania
Traia who...
am desperately trying to catch up
since 2010, when he had 4.0 v8
after a lot of struggle i managed to install
a 4.0 v8 myself.
i was happy af, but then he installed 5.0 v8 400hp m5 :))
he went next level
and i was left far far behind. :D
and now Traian
drives a ..
- I drive a Nissan Silvia
4.5 bi-turbo, Porsche Cayenne engine
the engine is stock, it runs standard ECU`s.
It`s a reliable car/configuration.
It perfectly worked for 2 years
and it still does.
The HGK Challenge in Riga 2018 was amazing
160km/h at initiation.
i had the chance to run in 4th gear.
normally i just go through 3rd gear.
Riga is at a whole new level.
I hope in the future to also have rounds like that, here, in Romania
really really fast tracks.
- Easy for you to say, since you have... how many hp ?
The car makes 522 hp at the wheel.
The car makes 522 hp at the wheel.
The best part is that
it somehow runs as a N/A
you don`t feel like you have NO power
and then the turbo kicks in and suddently you have a LOT of power
- It makes 830 NM at 2900RPM ...
Which is awesome
it makes the car feel like a N/A, no sudden bursts of power.
At Prejmer Circuit, you hit 5th gear by mistake, when you went for 3rd.
-Yup, it took it really well, she struggled a little bit but
managed to finish the lap in 5th gear.
everything gets out of control in 5th. :)
If you had to chose between
a stock engine like a M5 or RS6 ...
and a modified one, a N/A made into a turbo.
what would you choose?
If i would build another car
i would use the same recipe
stock engine from a powerful car
i wouldn`t try to re-design an engine.
installing a turbo and so on.
i drift because i want to have fun
i don`t want to spend the whole weekend
working on the car.
- A lot of people try to make high HP
but they end up just fixing their cars at the track
and that`s just sad.
It`s better to have a reliable engine, a stock engine, designed by engineers.
Of course it`s much more complicated to make it fit in your car.
But after that, you have a reliable car.
- You need a higher budget for the made up engine
depending on the track you are drifting you need a guy
to redo your software map depending on the altitude and so on.
- Tell me about the Drift Academy...
- I had some students
The Drift Academy will begin in full force in spring, this year.
The school car is still work in progress, we are trying to finish it.
I have stuggled 8 years to learn how to drift.
the first 2 years were on the street, in big parking lots.
there were no tracks/circuits in 2010.
It wasn`t easy to learn by making mistakes.
It`s really easier just to attent the Drift Academy
Someone stays by your side and tells you every little trick you need to know.
you can ask him anything you don`t know or understand, it`s just easier.
- You save a lot of time and money, basically.
- Indeed.
A lot of people think that it`s actually a waste of time and money, the academy.
But in reality you would spend much more, trying to figure it out by yourself.
I remember we went drifting one night in 2010
we were 5 cars and 4 out of them including mine
got back home on the trailers or being towed. :)
back then we didn`t have MotorParkRomania, and the other racing tracks we have now
- Yes, now it`s easier to learn, in a safe place and so on.
the school car has rollcage and every safety measure it needs
it`s a car you can run in the national championship
in the semi-pro category.
You have to start somewhere.
You cannot begin directly from PRO.
I red something today, it said that
"if you cannot go fast in a 90hp car
you cannot go fast in 900 car"
which is totally true.
i think a lot of the guys just try to make more horsepower
when they realise they don`t drive like they wanted to.
when in fact they just need more SEAT time in the car, just drive it and make more laps
and more laps.
that s why i try to keep my car in the 4-500 hp range
a huge bump in the hp measurements would mean a whole different car
and then i would have to learn the car basically again from zero.
we saw that with Calin in Baia Mare, when he tried to
drift 2 different cars in the same weekend
and it didn`t work out at all.
- That`s true, every car runs differently.
even 2 e30`s can run really different.
even 2 e30`s can run really different.
one with inline 6 and the other with V8.
they are miles away apart, totally different cars.
only the stock cars, the brand new cars run the same.
My last question would be
What do you think is the best drifting setup
with minimum costs, like the lowest low
in order to have some fun with a rwd car.
- My best advice would be to go to a shop
to a mechanic who knows what the fck he`s doing
he will save you a lot of time and money.
you just tell him what`s you budget and he will know exactly
what he should do to your car.
you need to have a welded differencial, since the LSD is much more expensive.
you need to have a welded differencial, since the LSD is much more expensive.
you need some safety measures
like rollcage and so on.
you cannot just weld a diff and start drifting on the streets.
it`s really really not safe.
See you in Hungary at Mariapocs ? At the first round in the National Championship ?
- Of course
My car just needs a new oil change and maybe
some small repairs on the fiberglass and it`s ready to rock.
Mariapocs is an awesome round that cannot be missed.
- Good luck.
- Thank you very much,
bye-bye.
- This was the 5th episode.
in the 6th you will see the motorcycle before wrapping the new design over the new paint.
All you need to do to win this t-shirt is leave a comment on this video.
