We've officially been a band for seven years.

Which sounds like a stretch.

We've been together, like we said, we started the band in high school.

And so, that's kind of the original time

but, as far as like a professional band,

it's been three years.

Growing up in Nashville is unique

because there are musicians everywhere.

So, I think that we thought that was very normal

to be raised in an environment where people are creating all the time.

And I think it made us

almost like

hyper aware of our own creativity.

And like,

kind of like,

thought of it in a more professional way

at a very young age.

We all saw music in a different way.

Sandy started playing guitar in high school.

Jasmine started writing songs when she was young.

Darius was always wanting to be like a music producer.

I was the odd duck in the sense of

I found music when we all came together.

But I think our love for music agreed.

We figured out that we wanted to be a band,

and that was

like high school.

Honestly, our band name came from like,

just needing a new band name.

We had an old one,

and then we ran into some legal issues with it.

We finally after like six months

of like searching for something that

hadn't been used already,

we happened upon "The New Respects".

And it was, like, great!

whatever it takes, let's do it.

But then as we progressed,

it has become like a banner

to constantly have a new respect for people,

for music,

and each other.

The first moment that we

kind of stepped back

and looked,

and realized we were a band

was when we went on our first tour,

and we were opening.

We had maybe 15 minutes.

But we got on stage,

and all of the sudden.

We weren't in our little white room anymore practicing.

And there are people listening to our music.

And we realized they were responding to it.

I think right now is the time where minorities are being

put in the spotlight.

Seven years ago,

when we first started the band,

to where we could be here

talking with Ford

about our experience,

as not only a minority but

about musicians.

And the fact that the world is in a place where it's open to

hearing that thing.

It's just too good to be happening by accident.

So, I believe that we're here for a reason.

I believe that our voice matters.

and I believe that we play

just a small role in getting to see our experience,

getting to see why we make music

And hopefully that inspires the next people,

either next to us,

or behind us.

A visit to Ford's factory in Craiova

The EcoSport model is produced here

Ford acquired a factory in the Romanian town of Craiova in 2008.

It is located less than 100 km from Vidin.

The car factory was built in 1976 jointly by the Romanian government and Citroen.

In 1994, Korea's Daewoo company started production

until 2006, when the partnership was suspended

and the plant went completely into the hands of the Romanian government.

Ford bought the plant in March 2008,

initially owning only a portion of the units,

but gradually acquiring all and is currently 100% owner of the plant.

At first, the Transit Connect model was produced, and a few years later, B-MAX was also assembled.

The factory now focuses on manufacturing the crossover EcoSport,

whose previous generation was made in India.

For the foreseeable future, there will also be a fourth model that Ford has yet keep in secret.

In 2017, around 60,000 new EcoSport crossovers have come out of the company's conveyors,

but in 2018 this figure has increased more than 2 times or around 130,000 units.

Ford's total investment so far exceeds EUR 1.5 billion,

with only EUR 200 million invested in the new EcoSport model.

Craiova's finished crossovers are exported to 27 countries,

including the largest European markets - Germany and the UK

and only 1% of them remain for the dealers of the brand in Romania.

The plant is almost entirely automated

about 85% of the main production processes are carried out by 1500 robots

each costing more than half a million euros.

At present, the staff is about 4500 people, but 1500 will join to them soon.

The process itself at the plant meets the highest standards.

Every employee is so trained that he can perform three different activities.

This allows for greater flexibility and interchangeability of workers.

Throughout the production process, repeated and accurate quality checks are carried out.

Whether it is the moment before leaving the assembled rough construction of the passenger compartment

or after fitting the interior elements and the lighting system.

Quality control is at the highest level, with a special polygon on which the cars are further tested after getting off the conveyor

In addition to cars in Craiova, engines are also produced,

including Ford's most popular aggregate in recent years - EcoBoost, in two versions.

The first is a 3-cylinder with a volume of 1.0 liters

and the second is a 4-cylinder with a volume of 1.5 liters.

The annual production volume of engines is 300,000 units, possibly at 350,000.

Despite huge investments in the area, Ford does not receive special preferences from the Romanian government.

The company is even willing to invest in the poor infrastructure of the region,

which seriously slows the transport of finished products to Western European countries

mainly by train compositions.

In a radius of about 250 km from Craiova,

there are a large number of companies that supply various components for the plant, including Bulgarian.
