- What's up everybody?
I'm Alex, and we're back with another episode
of The WJ Build.
Now, I'm not just wearing this funny hat
'cause it looks cool.
I'm wearing it 'cause our weather
got switched around with Antarctica,
and for some reason we got a polar vortex
swirlin' around the shop,
and it's, like, negative 50 degrees with wind chill.
So, I mean, this is more for purpose than it is for looks.
But hey, we're gonna wear it throughout the episode
just to remind you guys that it's been freezing cold here,
and we've been getting as much as we can done on the WJ.
Now, when it gets to be
about negative 50 degrees out with wind chill,
that's when they stop delivering beer in Wisconsin.
And when they stop delivering beer, things get crazy.
I mean, when a bar isn't open,
but the hospital is, things are getting wild,
and we don't know what to do.
So, we had some guys stay home this week.
We didn't want 'em braving that kind of cold.
We wanted 'em to stay home and warm with the families,
since school and everything else was canceled,
and since the Governor kinda said
it was a state of emergency,
we figured we'd give the boys a day off.
But we're back in the garage today,
breaking down the WJ.
We're gonna go over what some of the parts cost.
I know we saw on some comments in previous episodes,
people are asking hey, how much does this cost,
how much would that cost?
And now this whole bill,
we wouldn't wanna really tell you
the entire price right away.
Just because it's an ongoing build,
and the price is going up.
But also because there's a ton of people out there,
that are gonna be like,
What the heck are you doing?
30 grand into a WJ?
You're nuts!
Now, the bill isn't there yet.
But it could get there with everything that we're doing
over the next couple years of building this thing
if the customer keeps coming back,
and wantin' to do more to his WJ.
But for today, we'll break down what the lift cost,
what some of these different pieces we added cost.
That way, you can get an idea
if you wanted to do a modification similar on your WJ,
you know what it's gonna cost you,
and maybe what kind of labor it would take to get it done.
(chill electronic music)
(static) All right, so we'll start with
some of the exterior accessories,
just to get an idea on price.
Now, we went with the Goliath Off-road bumpers.
There's a couple different options out on the market,
actually quite a few different options
on the market out there for the WJ.
Not an overwhelming amount,
but the issue we ran into is back-order.
Now, when you get some of these custom-made parts,
things can take a while,
and the customer was waiting forever
to get some different bumpers.
We're not gonna name-drop those ones,
'cause we like to respect everybody out in the game.
But those ones took, like,
six weeks, eight weeks, almost 12 weeks,
just to hear back and say,
hey, we're not going to be able to get them
to you as quick as we thought.
So, we ended up going with these Goliath Bumpers,
because the shipping was ready to go.
They were gonna send them out,
and weren't gonna have to wait too long.
Now, these range in price starting at about $570,
depending on finish, and go all the way up to $800.
And with a lot of these different bumpers,
you can add on the accessories.
Like this particular option to add the two-inch receiver,
that'll run you about another $100.
If you want the black wrinkle coating,
that can run you about another $100 to $200.
And then the rear bumper pretty much comes set up standard.
The one thing you can't add is the hitch,
and then you've got your finish coatings.
And then for the front bumper,
that's where the options get
a little bit wilder from Goliath.
Now, this one isn't the all-out bumper that they sell,
but it's definitely one of their more upgraded ones.
And really what you can choose on this one again,
is just the different finishes.
So, these start at about $500, $570,
and then as you add the bars on,
they have, you know, the bull bar,
the stinger bar, the pre-runner bar,
and that'll jump you up closer to $800.
As well as gettin' that finish option.
When you want the black wrinkle coat,
again that'll get you closer to that $800 for the bumpers.
So, you could expect to pay close to $750, $800
all decked out for the front bumper,
and just about the same for the rear, including shipping.
Some of the manufacturers offer free shipping,
but with these being so heavy,
you know, factor that cost in as well.
Now, we decided to up-fit these for this front bumper
with the projector headlights
just to kinda add to the style
the customer had already goin' on
with his after-market headlights.
Now, we did notice in one of the comments before,
someone had asked, "Hey, you didn't show us
"installing the headlights."
Well, the headlights were actually installed
when the Jeep was brought to us.
So, we're not quite sure of the brand,
but we were able to match the style
with the projector bulbs that we put in this Goliath bumper.
And then when we get that winch mounted,
it's gonna be really slick.
So then, taking you around to the side of the Jeep,
we'll talk about kinda what the other costs
on the panels we put on were.
(static crackling)
All right, so a couple weeks ago
we were talking about these front panels,
and now they're finally gettin' on.
Now, we got a little excited when the roof rack came back,
and we focused on gettin' that all fixed
and set up on the truck
with all the different lighting accessories,
and then ran into a few issues with some other stuff.
But now we're back at it,
getting these panels installed.
But really, what makes these
DBM front panels worth the money,
is when you switch to an after-market track-bar mount,
something that's a little bit more heavy duty,
like we did with the Iron Man four-by-four fab bracket
it just requires you to bolt it to the uni-body structure.
And when the uni-body's startin' to get a little weak,
what you'll experience is what this customer did.
And that is that it begins to tear the metal
on the inside of this bracket.
And after some abuse on a trail,
you might actually see this mount rip off.
So, what we're gonna do is fashion this panel in here,
and then then give this mount something else to weld to.
'Cause they'll be honest, we saw some people mention
on the welds, but when you're welding
on this uni-body structure, this metal,
it's so thin and after it's been
I guess oxidized or whatever
so many times that it's startin' to rust through.
It makes it really hard to weld on,
and which can cause an issue of welding this bracket
onto the uni-body structure.
So by adding this DBM panel in,
what you'll do is you'll give it some metal
to actually weld to and really make that a solid mount.
So that when there's a situation that may arise
where it's really gonna put all that stress
on this new track bar drop bracket,
it's not gonna rip it off the frame,
or rip it off the uni-body.
So that's where these DBM panels are gonna make
a nice addition to structuring that up.
And you'll see on the other side,
we'll kinda show you real quick,
this side's a little bit more straight forward.
Yo, this panel's going in real nice.
It fits really good.
So, guys over at DBM really make a quality product.
The driver's side will be a little bit more difficult,
again just because it's got a little bit more stuff going on
with tying in that track bar bracket, but nothing major.
So that'll be done today,
and that'll be all finished and nice,
so that we can get to workin'
on puttin' these axles back together.
Get this thing back on the ground,
'cause that's really where we want to see it
here in the next week or two. (static)
For those other people asking about
what the frame stiffener package cost,
now on this Jeep from DBM metalworks,
you can get three different panels.
You get the rear, the mid, and the front section.
Or, if you want to get the whole kit,
you're looking about $335 before shipping,
and that's shipped to you from Arizona.
Great guy down there at DBM who makes these panels.
You wouldn't think right outta the box
they'd fit as good as they do,
but with a little bit of finesse and fabrication,
these things work awesome.
So expect to pay about $350,
and that's money well spent
when you're really doing this on a Jeep.
And the reason for that is
'cause the uni-body isn't that thick.
So you get to strengthen that
while still spending just a little bit of money.
But again, with that type of installation,
the labor cost outweighs the price of the parts
by twice, three times, four times, sometimes.
So that's another thing to consider
when you're considering doing that.
If you're doin' it yourself,
$335 isn't a bad investment.
If you're havin' a shop do it,
expect to pay quite a bit for labor for installation.
'Cause it's not just a slap it up there and weld it.
If you want it done correctly,
it's gonna take a little bit of time.
The other thing people were asking about
was these rub rails in the back.
Now, DBM makes these panels with or without the bar.
Now, we got it with the bar,
and then fabricated our ladder rack to the safari rack.
So, if you want to get just the rub rail,
or just this rub rail panel, $230, $200.
And then if you want to get it with the rail,
you're looking at about $250 before shipping.
And then if you want to have it fab-ed up like we did,
again you're looking at just material and labor costs
that go up from there.
But to give you a rough idea of what the rub rail costs,
figure about $250 with just the single bar.
(static)
All right, so some of the people asking
about the safari rack.
Now, that's a product from Kevin's Off-road,
and that'll run you close to $900 for the rack.
Now, again, we went a little bit extra,
tied in the DBM side panel rub rails
with that Kevin's Off-road roof rack.
So, all-in-all, that's probably about
a $1500 to $2500
piece installed
with all the extra stuff if we built it here.
Now, again, if you built it yourself,
you'll save a little bit of money.
But to get you that idea about $900 for the safari rack,
to get you set up with something that you can put
a bunch of stuff on top of the Jeep.
(static) All right, so we had
a couple people ask in the last episodes,
as far as the lighting goes,
what's the cost on these agriculture, these tractor lights.
Now, normally we'd say,
"Hey, we're gonna shoot you a link over,
"and buy 'em from us."
But right now, the manufacturer's selling these
cheaper than anybody.
It's because they're actually gonna become discontinued,
and they're going to bring a new product line out.
So, right now we're actually givin' people
the insider information that if they go to
ACI's website and purchase these lights
they can get them for $134 before shipping
which is a crazy discount over what they normally cost.
I think when the customer purchased these,
they were right around that $250, $275 a piece range.
So if you're looking for the all-out,
most absolute brightest light for your rig,
right now $134.
You can get them on Access' website,
direct from the manufacturer.
Now we do this because we want to be honest about our parts,
and get you guys the best deal out there
instead of saying hey, just buy 'em from us,
because we'll make a couple extra bucks,
right now you can save a couple bucks if you get it direct.
So, with that little bit of inside information,
if you're trying to get these floods
or the spotlights from Access,
having that 8100 lumens,
right on the website you get that deal.
And for the other parts though,
we can definitely hook you up.
So, if you have any questions,
make sure you throw it in the comments
as far as pricing on different parts for this Jeep
and we can help you get set up.
If you're looking to get your WJ,
or any of your other rigs set up for the trail.
(static) The other part
people maybe were asking about
is these rock sliders from Kevin's Off-road.
These are about $380 before shipping,
and definitely a solid piece.
This thing's really heavy.
So, if you're looking for that
extra piece to add to your WJ
to be able to slide across the rocks
without wrecking your rocker panels,
This Kevin's Off-road piece is definite must.
Now, there's a ton of people out there that make 'em,
so you can kinda pick and choose your style.
But the customer wanted to stick with these panels
to match the safari roof rack.
(static)
All right, so we're excited to tell you guys,
and we've kinda been holding it back
about the audio side of what we're doing
with this Jeep build.
Since it's been so trail oriented,
audio didn't seem that necessary.
But the customer really likes to have
some bass in his vehicle.
And he opted to go with
what we would think is one of the better,
and some people might regard it as the best sound--
- [Male] We got some steel in.
- Perfect!
- There you go.
- Actually, this works out great.
'cause I'm talking about the sub right now.
Sweet!
Okay, so the customer decided to go with a
13w7 anniversary edition subwoofer.
And to some of the guys out there,
JL's, like, on the high end for sound quality,
and I'm gonna give you a quick idea
really what he was all going for.
The customer really likes the flat response
on low frequency.
So he opted to go with a sealed enclosure,
but to hold a 13w7 or a 13-and-a-half-inch subwoofer,
he's gonna have to have some beefed up box.
It's gotta be along the same lines as the rest of the Jeep,
and that's why we went with this
one-by-one-inch square tubing 14 gauge
as to build a exoskeleton
for the enclosure for the subwoofer.
With this being that big,
you would think it's gonna need a ton of cubic feet
to be able to really maximize it's potential.
But with going to the sealed box,
we're able to stick around two cubic feet,
and then what we're going to do
is actually build the structure for the box
out of this 1x1 square tubing.
To really give it the rigidity it needs
to be able to get the output that he's really looking for.
'Cause with goin' for sound quality over output,
you're gonna lose one or the other.
And you can kinda have both,
if you decide to go with a 13-and-a-half-inch JL w13.
And so we're so excited to get this built.
I got one of my other fabricators
jumping on building the box this week.
And once he gets the box structure done,
we're gonna get a good idea,
layout in the rear trunk where we're gonna put that
so we still have room for
the compressors, the batteries,
and all the other equipment that's gonna be goin' in it.
All right, so some of the people might be asking,
what does a 13w7 like this run?
Well, you might be amazed to find out that a subwoofer,
just this subwoofer alone,
is gonna run you close to $1200 to $1400
depending on when you buy it,
and who you get the deal from.
So this is definitely not your entry-level sub by any means.
Some people are probably gonna say what?
I coulda bought a whole nother rig
for the price of that sub!
But when you're not gonna worry about price over quality,
and you want the absolute best in your vehicle,
'cause this is what you love to do,
that 13w7 top-of-the-line runnin' you about $1200, $1300
just for the sub.
(chill electronic music)
So, hopefully we answered a lot of the questions
people were having about price-wise
what all really has gone into this Jeep.
Now again, like we said, we'll give you a total price
towards the end of the bill
once we really know all the parts that are going into it,
what it's all gonna cost.
Now, I do expect this bill to head north of $10,000 so far.
Give you a rough idea and it's still going up from there.
Now granted, if you do have questions
about some of the other pieces or some suggestions,
again, we're still building this Jeep for the customer.
Now, we saw some people asking about a snorkel tube,
if we were gonna do something like that.
And with all the amount of electronics and accessories
that are going into this Jeep,
we don't think it's gonna be doin' any water-crossing.
So, a snorkel might just be an aesthetic upgrade.
Which, for the guys out there
who want to see a snorkel tube,
maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't.
We'll see what the customer decides
here in the next couple weeks.
But we definitely got a lot of work
left ahead of us to get this thing completed
and out on the trail before springtime.
And the customer's more than excited to get it back.
So, we gotta get into this thing
get some more work done,
and bring you guys some more cool content.
So make sure you stay following these episodes.
