If we want to get back to the very beginning of this story

we have to go back to 1988

when Audi introduced the V8

Yes, so simply had Audi labeled its first flagship

And what do you do with a flagship?

That's right, you take it Racing...

Talent from the motorsport was demonstrated also with the first generation of Audi A8

Its aluminum body meant that Audi A8 was the lightest car in its class

The base model weighted only 1,6 tons

and it was the only car in its class to offer all wheel drive version.

the third one, which was produced also in Russia

was designed by Christian Winkelmann

and current? That was most likely designed by a computer

And that's exactly my problem

From the technical point of view the new Audi A8 is a masterpiece

If you are a tech nerd you have to buy this new Audi A8

Level 3 autonomous driving

48-Volt mild hybrid electrical system with very effective recuperation

and that's only a fraction of technology highlights

Even the advertising claim states, that Cars come to an end

And Audi concept cars are always mindblowing and exciting

Audi Quattro concept

or concept Audi A9 Prologue

I wish the new Audi A8 would look just like this...

And that's a shame

because in every other way this A8 will make all your wishes come true

including self-driving mode

However I have to point out one thing which is written in user's manual

So, ...on page 162.

There's a warning

Adaptive cruise control is supporting system only

where resposibility for safety during driving still remains on driver

especially during braking, steering, acceleration,

speed and keeping distance from other vehicles

They had to mention it because Vienna conventions from 1968 are still valid today

and they state that only the driver can be responsible for driving the car

That's why selfdriving mode is available only for Germany, Netherlands and Belgium

which already ammended this law

Another standard feature is air suspension which is incredibly comfortable

and in top spec it has camera that scans the surface in front of car

and adjusts damping of each wheel

sway bars are history

They are being replaced by electronic actuators that control the body roll

That all thanks to the 48 volt electrical grid

It enables recuperation and thanks to powerful alternator

it can prolong the range in the sailing mode. And save fuel and lower emissions

So it's no wonder the weather got colder since the new A8 hit the market....

Let's take a look inside

In this case knobs are matter of a past

they were replaced by displays and touchscreens

it might seem complicated at first glimpse

but I have to say all controls are very intuitive

For instance the screen for A/C controls can also work as touchpad

in case you want to set your destination very quickly

And it's no different in the back

those comfortable seats will take good care of you

and especially this tablet controler

which can control literally everything from the back seat

and thats a sign of democracy

Audi A8 is democratic in other ways too

after all it allows you to fully disengage stability control

and that means it's time to test new technologies the good old fashioned way

Audi A8 still retains status of extremely friendly car

which doesn't need time to get used to
