Hi everyone, and warm welcome to this live Q&A session on the V90 Cross Country Volvo Ocean Race.
My name is Malin, we will do a short intro, and after that we want to take all your questions on our Facebook page.
I'm not here alone today. I have three colleagues with me: I have Dan, Maria, and I have my sidekick Aurélie.
Welcome Aurélie, nice to have you here. Thank you.
You will ask all the questions that we will get on Facebook, and I hope we get many of them, right.

Let´s come back to you in a while. Dan, you have been responsible for the product development of this vehicle.

Today is a very special day because tomorrow we will show the car for the first time in Lisbon.
And I know that both you and me, we are going straight from this live session to the airport. So do you want to say something about that?
I can start and I can just say how excited I am, after working with this programme for such a long time.
And we have done this together, me and Maria.
And we are so proud, because now we get the chance to show the audience, and really get to see what they feel about what we have done.
So I'm really excited and looking forward to meeting them in Lisbon.
I'm super excited as well, and it's quite exciting to be able to follow a project or a design from the first start up until the reveal.
That is quite honouring.
I think we are all excited. And I think that the audience is excited as well.
I want to start with the first question, and that is to you Dan. Why have we made this car?
Well, the Volvo Ocean Race is an extreme challenge, and it's an adventure out of the ordinary.
Look at those guys and girls sailing out there, that is something.
For Volvo, we have a niche target group that really like this outdoor, activity lifestyle, with a lot of adventure,
so we figured, let's target them.
And in what way could we do that better than taking the car which actually stands for adventure activities like this:
that is the Volvo V90 Cross Country.
On top of that, we took a lot of optional features and made them standard on this car,
to really enhance the capability of the car we already have.
We developed beautiful design, which Maria will talk about, and you have seen a glimpse of that already, 29 00:03:13,15 --> 00:03:17,36 and we combine it with functionality which is out of the ordinary I think. So I am really proud of those things.
If you look at the Volvo Ocean Race and the Volvo Ocean Race boats,
So you have two car offers in one actually, as I see it.
Because you have your weekdays, when you go in style, comfort, everything in this beautiful car.
And then when it comes to the weekend, you have your perfect weekend buddy.
You go out and you do all the activities, like hiking, biking, skiing, photography, you name it.
And this model works both ways. So I am really proud.
So you have your weekend buddy, right.
Maria why do we call it Volvo Ocean Race?
We have a long tradition in making Volvo Ocean Race cars, we started in 2001,
and it is a way of celebrating the Volvo Ocean Race.
This time we wanted to make more of a pure concept.
they have very little similarities with family yachts or day cruising.
They are much more about performance, high-tech materials, advanced engineering and a lot about functionality as Dan talked about.
So we wanted to capture much more of that feeling in this year's version.
Both of you talk about functionality. What is your favourite functionality element? Dan, do you want to start?
For me it's not one element, for me it's, as I described it, your weekend buddy.
It's the trunk area, and you have everything with the wet zone, dirt protection, the storage, you name it.
I can go on forever but I will not do that. So short answer: Trunk area.
Now I want to know more, do you want to say something Maria?
I think it's important that we have looked at our customers and seen how they use the car,
and what is important for them to have as features, and how we could make life easy for them.
Well I think I can speak for the three of us when I say that we can stand here all day and talk, but that's not the purpose,
but we want to invite also the Facebook fans. So Aurélie do we have any good questions that we can come up with?
We were talking about functionalities, and we have a question regarding some of the functionalities.
Did you actually involve any sailors or adventurers to get input on the functionalities?
I think that is a very good question, do you want to answer that Maria? Do we have like influencers or people we work with?
I think we come from Scandinavia so all of us are sailors, skiers and bikers,
but we have actually been working together with a guy, Martin Strömberg, who been in the Volvo Ocean Race a couple of times.
And we have had discussions with him and talked about the functional bit.
And to enhance that a little bit it's not only sailing because this is an activity car for people with an adventurous lifestyle
so it's not only for sailing, but we have talked to Martin who has been part of a couple of races already,
and he is one contributor for input, but we also look at other people with an adventurous lifestyle, which is who we are targeting.
And I think that, we have done cross country cars for twenty years now,
and we have always been great at doing them and have had quite a success in doing them.
And it's because the adventurous lifestyle, or the active lifestyle is very close to our hearts up here in Sweden.
We do a lot of outdoor activities, we are an active people.
I think that's a good expression, we are an active people.
Let´s see if we have any more active people putting up more questions on Facebook?
Indeed, we have some questions regarding the design of the car.
The first one is actually related to the colour, do we only have this colour,
and what about the Ocean Blue Pearl that we used to have?
I think that is a very relevant question, because we have had the blue colour in the past,
and now we have turned to the white colour, do you want to answer that Maria?
We have had a blue colour, not the same blue, but a blue colour as a special Volvo Ocean Race colour every year.
This year we wanted to do something different.
As you said, the ocean blue colour was inspired by the ocean and a bit more yacht inspired.
Now we wanted to focus more on sports gear and racing, and the colour scheme that comes from active sport gear.
And that's the reason that we picked the white?
The reason why we picked the white is both this, and also that we in 2014 showed a concept car called Concept XC coupé,
and it was shown in Detroit and was a price winning car because of its colour, material, graphic and other things.
It had this quite bold grey wheel arch colour that should remind you of protection,
and on a Cross Country it is a protective area so you won't get stones,
and it was combined to a really light exterior colour. 83 00:09:12,13 -—> 00:09:16,49 So this car you will only get in one colour, chrystal white.
There is a really good orange colour on the car as well, right?
On the XC coupé we had some orange highlight which we also picked up on this car,
and we have it both on exterior and also in the interior.
You want to show us a bit more on the orange details?
I can show you on the interior how we have used the orange highlight on the seatbelts.
And if you look into the interior you can see that we have used it at some of the line or highlights on the doors,
and we have used it on seats, and we have it on the carpet.
And when you look into the trunk, we have also used it there on many of the features that we have added.
We actually have another question related to design, can we have that design for other cars, like the XC60?
I think that the question is, can we have the Volvo Ocean Race design also on the XC60?
This time, not, you can only have it on the V90 Cross Country.
And it is a luxury top of the normal V90 Cross Country.
As I mentioned the V90 Cross Country is a real adventure capable car,
and that's why we elaborated on that one to take it even further.
So for now with this Volvo Ocean Race the take is that the V90 Cross Country is the Volvo Ocean Race model?
Yes, correct.
Interesting to see so many people being interested in our car, do we have any more questions?
A question about the roof box, is it available in other colours as well, and how big is the roof box?
You can only get the roof box in the white, Chrystal white exterior colour,
so its linked to the actual exterior, and you have the grey, which we call Kaolin gray,
and then the orange highlight, as you can see on the key and the nets inside.
Does the roof box always come as standard, Dan?
No the roof carrier, which is design with the same beautiful, Kaolin grey, is standard on the car,
and the roof box is up to each market, so some markets will offer it together with the car,
some will offer it as accessories, so it's either or.
And you can buy this car in the whole world?
Starting today, it's out for sale.
So talk to your local dealer or sales company, and you will be aware of how to buy this car.
And Dan and I have the first ones. (laugh)

No. We wish, but we prioritize customers first
Prioritize customers first, I think that's very good advice. Aurélie do we have more questions coming in?
We have a question I guess probably more for Dan, what type of adventure is this car the most suitable for?
Well, I wouldn't say its most suitable for just one adventure,
it's for whatever your flavour is, you can go skiing, biking, sailing, hiking, fishing, diving, whatever.
Because we have designed this car to really meet whatever adventure activities customers want to do.
You have a lot of storage additional, you have a lot of functionalities to charge with four USB ports,
you have 2.30 volts charging, you have 12 volts, storage torchlights, etc.
All of these kind of stuff to fit basically all of the active lifestyle that the target customer that we are aiming for is having
So we are not going just for one adventure.
You can also go shopping with this car, another activity. It has loads of storage.
The question is, because we have a beautiful white blond interior and you talk about adventure,
for me that seems really contrasting. Maria do you want to say something about that?
We have a beautiful light interior as you say and we have tried to make it feel and flare from the Scandinavian airy lifestyle.
But we have added a black floor, a black ceiling, to make it more functional,
and we also have a black interior as well, so there is a choice.
And then we have this seat cover that goes with the car, and that you get in a beautiful bag in the rear.
If I may jump in, this is basically what we started this for, we have two offers in one.
We have the beautiful interior design that Maria and her team has developed, with the exterior and everything,
and you also have this protection, and you can do a lot of activities. So you actually have both.
I'm going to interrupt you because I have the sidekick kicking my side now. We have some questions on Facebook.
Yes, I guess we talked a lot about design, but now we have a several questions regarding electrification.
Will this car come as an electrified version as well?
Not at this stage, no.
Today the car is offered in four different powertrains, all automatic, all-wheel drive, as the V90 Cross Country offer.
What happens in the future for electrification, as you know Volvo Cars is moving rapidly in that direction,
but at this stage, no, we don't have electrification offer on this one.
We have another really good question.
This one is related to Care by Volvo. Can we subscribe to this through Care by Volvo?
I can start, we introduced the Care by Volvo with the XC40.
But I'm quite sure, Dan, that we will continue rolling out Care by Volvo with other models, right. How about this one?
We started Care by Volvo with the XC40 in Milan just recently, and we will move on into more countries,
with more offers as time goes, but at this stage today it's only the XC40 that is offered with care by Volvo.
We have a lot more questions but we are running out of time,
so our Social media managers will definitely answer those questions.
