Auto news on Youtube May 31 2018

Hey, hey everybody! Brock Frady here, helping you enjoy your ride. And I'm

coming to you with a very special 2018 Lexus LC 500 H. That amazing 354

horsepower hybrid from Lexus. Wait till you see the interior of this thing. We're

gonna go over the interior, the exterior, the specs. All that juicy, glorious stuff.

Thanks for watching everybody. What a color. This color is called nightfall

mica. The LED front lights. Lexus had to invent the process of making that light

specifically for the LC 500 because it uses the world's thinnest LED light in

an automotive function. Take a look at the inside of that light housing right

there. Those are little L's in that spindle grill. Man, you guys know that I'm

a huge fan of that grill. I think it is just absolutely beautiful. Notice that

there's a blue ring inner portion of that front emblem and that is

specifically on all of the Lexus hybrids. Has been since day one. Nnice and low to

the ground. And I love how wide it looks. See how wide those flares are? Those

fenders are? Holy cow that's beautiful. That is the sexiest car we've ever made.

Personally I think it's just as good-looking as the LFA. Some of you are

gonna hate on me for that but I'm sorry it is. You see that rear taillight? That

is the same symbol that is in the F Sport and F designs of the the Lexus

family. If you've seen a Lexus with the F Sport then you have seen that F right

there. And that is for the Fuji Raceway which is where Lexus does a lot of

testing for the performance vehicles. These are special tires these are run

flats. Right there says 275 40 RF 20 and so those are going to be the back

tires. And then we'll come up to the front those are 245 45 RF 20. So

they're 20 inch rims but they're 275 on the back 245. On the front of course

wider in the back than they are in the front. On the top this is a sword. You see

that goes all the way down so you can see the the starting point there and

then you can see right there. That's a samurai sword, supposed to be represent

one anyways. The exhaust all right here and this one is the hybrid so it doesn't

have the growl that the LC 500 non-hybrid has. But it's still an

unbelievably impressive vehicle to have the kind of horsepower that it has. You

know it's got 354 total system horsepower and look at that. Miles per

gallon. 26 City 35 highway. Now the window sticker of this one is $102,203 and it

has the all-weather package, the convenience package, heads up display,

trunk mat, cargo net, rail locks, and the illuminated door seals. Take a look at

the taillights. They look deeper than they really are. If

it were nighttime, there you go, you see that? Ot uses what's called the Infinity

prism principle. And it actually looks deeper than it really is.

If you could see it here in person and you would see that it they actually look

deep. And at night that looks so cool. Those are designed to look like the

afterburners of a fighter jet. Pretty awesome. Isn't that a cool-looking LED turn

signal down low right there? And there's your front turn signal there. And then

there's another turn signal right there inside the rear view mirror on the

outside. Here's the key for the LC. You can see it has lock on top, unlock below

that, hold button for the trunk, hold button from the panic alarm. And this is

a new key design. It's more compact than the keys that we've had in

the past. And you can see this is a hybrid by the

blue that's there on the L on the back of the key. It also does have the key

that's integrated into the corner of the key there. And you can see there's an icon

that says push, right there on the top corner. So when you push that, the key

comes out right there. When I hit unlock, watch what happens

with the door handle here. The door handle just popped out. You see that and

then you see the Lexus emblem right there. There's a puddle lamp and that

will shine from under the door handle and down so that you don't, so that it

lights your way into the vehicle. I'm gonna hit the lock button and watch the

door handle here. If you want it to unlock it by just walking up to it

without handling the key fob, you can just push the little dimple right there.

See that? That unlocks it and then you'll pull it from underneath and that gives

you access into you LC. The trunk button is kind of hidden in the LC. It's

right in the corner of that light right there. When you pop that up, there's your

trunk. It's kind of small but you don't need a lot of things if you're driving

this. You're doing it for fun, so you maybe have a bag for the weekend. That's

where you're gonna put it. Cool little trunk. And your backup camera is really

integrated just above the Lexus emblem there. You see that? Pretty well

hidden. And when you close the trunk it's, it's unless you were really looking for

it you wouldn't really see it very well. That's a good thing. Really integrating

that stuff. This has the parking sensors because there's a little dot right there

on the bumper. That's what beeps when you get too close

to something to let you know not to hit things. Now most of the Lexus vehicles

today do not have this button inside. You see that? That's for the gas tank. And so

when you press that, it opens the gas door. And there's where you fill it up.

And you only want to use premium fuel in that. And now let's take a look at the

heart of the beast. Now the latch is going to be just kind of

to the right the Lexus emblem there. It's a 3.5 liter

V6. Total system horsepower output is 354. You can tell that it's a hybrid

obviously by the label there on the engine cover but also by the two big

orange cables that are coming from the Hybrid Synergy Drive system. You can also

see a whole lot of support that the engine ha. Engine support beams there.

There. So there's two in the back, there's two in the front. And that's what

keeps it, keeps the body rigid. This actually has more body rigidity

components in it than an LFA. Lexus is really focused on structural rigidity in

this vehicle and so many hours and a lot of money went into developing the

rigidity of this body of the LC, both hybrid and non-hybrid. You do use 0 W 20

oil in the LC 500 H. That is fully synthetic. And what's interesting is that

you use non synthetic regular oil in the LC 500.

Now if you were looking closely and paying attention you would see a little

component right there. And it's got a red exclamation point. You would see another

one there in the hinge of the hood and there's another one on the other side.

And finally there's a fourth down here. In the event that you were to get into a

front collision with a person, what would happen is the hood, those charges would

come up, the hood would raise up. I think it's like three inches in the front, one

inch in the back. Those charges would cause the hood to come up and it would

basically create a barrier. A buffer between the hood and the engine itself

in order to protect the person from hitting the engine. It would basically

create a padding so as to lessen the likelihood of injury. Pretty awesome

thought process that went into that. You see those gills right there? From those

air intakes and then you have air intakes here in the back as well. You see

those? People assume that those are used to cool the brakes and that's not

actually the case. What happens is air comes through the

intake and then that air is channeled outward and around the wheel. And then the

air that goes in that intake goes in and then out around the wheel so as to create

a more fluid airflow and to keep the tires stuck to the ground where they

need to be. Lexus calls this interior the Bespoke interior upgrade. It's kind of an

exclusive thing. And personally I'm in love with it. I love love love the way

this interior looks. I actually love the orange against the blue against the

white. And it is fantastic and you may not know this but very early on in the

very first LS 400's, Lexus offered a completely blue interior. You don't see

it anymore except now. And I think it's absolutely awesome. You can see that it's

like an Alcantara. And check out how all the lines flow and

how everything just works together. It is just fantastic. That's gonna be your seat

memory system. Set one, two, three. That's going to memorize your seat, your steering

wheel, and your mirrors. Control panel for the mirrors. Lock and unlock. And also the

windows. Even the handle is just cool. It just looks like it it comes out of the

door. And then take a look at the stitching there on the dash, how it's all

put together. The pedals. They're real sport looking pedals. Now I just love the

attention that Lexus has put into the manufacturing of this car. You can see

that there's a stalk right there on the dash. Its traction control and snow mode.

And this is what it looks like from the driver's seat. Cars not on right now

but I'll cut it on in a second. I don't know how you guys feel about

this interior color but my gosh I think it's beautiful. See the Alcantara

headliner. So you see a power button down there. It's not a start button, it's power.

And right now it's running. You can see a light right there that says ready and

that ready light indicates that it is ready to go.

The engines about to cut on here, just there it is. So now the engine is on and

all systems go. You see right now it's showing you red coming from the engine

going to the electric motor then it turns orange and goes to the battery. So

right now the engine is acting like a generator for the motor in order to

charge the battery as we drive. And it, there those two are gonna work together

in a seamless way to charge the battery to propel the vehicle forward. It's going

to use regenerative braking in order to recharge itself. You never have to charge

this vehicle. It does it itself. It's a self charging hybrid and it just cut off.

When I say cut off the engine just quit running so you see that the energy

monitor now. There's nothing there however the air is blowing cold, the

radio would cut on if I cut it on, all systems go. But right now we're just

operating on electricity. Isn't that fantastic. Now the way that we put it in

drive is going to be a little different than the traditional Lexus shifters that

you're used to. You see a little chart down here and this is actually a chart

that they've had on hybrids for a while. I used to have a CT 200h and it looked

just like this. So it's in park right now. You can see that the green P or the

blue P is lit up so that means we're in park. And so that if I want to go into

a drive gear right now, I just put my foot on the brake. I'll push it left and

when I push it left it's going to go into neutral. Then I'll pull it down

toward me and it'll go into drive. Then I'll let it go. So now we're in

Drive and then if I wanted to put it in reverse,

I'd go left and up and that's reverse. There's my backup camera and then if I

wanted to go back down into drive left down again. Now check this out. If I

wanted to go to manual I just go straight down and that allows me to go

into manual mode. And I can use my magnesium paddle shifters. Up shift on

the right down, shift on the left. You can see it says M 1 there on the dash and

that lets me know I'm in manual mode now. Here's the cool thing about manual mode.

It has a 10 speed- ish transmission. So there are, there are four regular gears

and then it has the continuous variable transmission mixed with that. So they

combine. But it doesn't have the kind of floaty fluid like CVT that have that the

hybrids of the past have had. This has a really truly shifting transmission and

you can tell I mean it shifts and it feels fantastic.

It's just an absolute pleasure to drive. So if you're concerned about it

having that funny, you know rubber band-like

CVT, nope.

And then to put it in park once I'm finished driving it, I just pressed the P

and now it's in park. On the left side of the steering wheel is going to be a

multi-directional keypad with a volume button down below. Voice commands button

to the right of that, Bluetooth and then a back arrow with a pages icon. So when I

operate this it changes the information that happens there. And I'm gonna hit

that pages icon. That's straight out of the LFA.

Now that multi-directional keypad I told you about before. I'm pressing it left. No

messages. Radar cruise, radio navigation or compass, and then driving information.

I'm pressing it down and this is all going to be fuel economy information.

Look at that range. 688 miles and then there's

going to be my energy monitor. That's the small unabbreviated or a small version

of what I was showing you before. Hybrid system, G-force indicator so cool. Gear

position. Check that out. isn't that awesome? Sway warning, tire pressure monitor

system, and then back to drive info. Then I just press the pages icon again and

you can see that it has hybrid on the you know hybrid information over on the

left side. And then on the right side is going to be temperature and fuel. Top

left, outside temperature. Top right, clock and then all there in the middle is

going to be instant information as far as fuel economy. I'm pressing that down

now. And so these are just abbreviated versions there's that G-force monitor.

Isn't that awesome? And there's Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keep Assist on the

right side of the steering wheel. I have Cruise Control, Radar Cruise Control, Lane

Departure Alert, Lane Keep Assist mode. and that's all four radio. And then I

have an arrow key. And I just pressed the outer button on the the cruise control.

And so the radar came up. Then I press the radar cruise control icon and that

allows me to adjust the distance that it's going

maintain between me and the vehicle in front of me when I'm using radar cruise.

And then that's Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Steering Assist

Active turned on. Then mode is all radio information. The engine, like I said

before, the engine is actually off right now but the vehicle is running and it's

ready to go if I want to. The reason I know that is because that ready light

there in the dash it says ready. That stalk is Selectable Drive Modes and you

can see it says Sport, Sport+, Normal, Custom Comfort, and Eco. And those are all

going to be selectable on-the-fly. I can change those at any time and it's going

to change the driving dynamic of the vehicle. When I roll it up toward the

roof of the car it's gonna go into Sport and Sport Plus

mode. If I roll it back down it's going to get a normal and custom and then comfort

and ECO. Now that changes something called throttle mapping and also

whenever it's in Sport and Sport Plus it's going to change the gear shift

points. It's going to hold lower gears for longer whenever it's in Sport and Sport

Plus. It's also gonna change the steering feel so when I'm in Sport Mode, it's

going to tighten the steering and also if I'm in Eco mode it's going to take a fan

speed away from the climate system in order to appropriate that to fuel

economy. May or may not be able to see that heads-up display. It's blinking

right now because the refresh rate of my camera but it says radar ready. And what

that also has is radar cruise control information, real time speed information.

In a digital way it's going to show me my actual speed it's also going to show

the speed limit information and there's a button right there that says HUD. See

that? HUD is how I cut on the heads-up display. Now over here on the right side

is the all new generation 10 navigation system control. So this is the touch pad

that first debuted in the NX and this has really been improved, the sensitivity

of it and the haptic feedback that's inside of it. Lexus has done a lot to

make this really, really user friendly. The interface is fantastic.

And your audio controls are all right here. You can see at the top it says

radio and media, seek, tracks, tune and then the big silver button says power

and volume right there on top of the button. And then map menu and a back

arrow. And so I can press menu. I'm touching the pad now. I'm moving left and

right and when I go to destination you see what shows up. I have different

selections in destination. So now I can flick it up and go home.

Recent favorite. I can go to radio and those are just little categories within

radio, media, phone, apps, and infotainment. Info, setup, and climate.

There's your climate control system. Also notice that you're not going to see any

heated or ventilated seat buttons on the outside.

All of those are controlled from within the infotainment system here and you can

see where it says seat and steering. See that? And so that's under the climate

setting right there on the very end. So I'm going to go to seat and then you can

see here is where I can make the make changes to the temperatures of the seats,

whether it's ventilation or heat or heating the steering wheel or using

concierge. All those things. There's another button down here that I didn't

tell you about yet. And it's that button with the double arrows right there. Any

screen that has the little double arrows right there it says setting. That's when

you can press this button and it's gonna bring up kind of a quick access menu

within that screen. You go to map and you can see that beautiful map. The display

is incredible. It's very crisp. On the far right side you have a quick access menu.

And that's gonna be navigation, music, fuel economy, climate, and then that is

going to go with the screen down there. You can also split the screen by selecting

any of these.

That's pretty cool. But then I can go back to full screen there. Then in the

very left I can change the orientation of the map. I like that one. 3D and so

you've got all these different settings all along the outsides as well. Okay

everybody. That's a look at the 2018 LC 500 H, the most amazing hybrid Lexus has

ever made. Thank you so much for watching. I would love to hear what you think

about this vehicle, especially this amazing interior and if you don't like

it, you feel free to disagree with me. You can tell me that you don't like it but I

love it. Thanks so much for watching everybody. I hope this helps you enjoy

your ride. Remember to hit that subscribe button and the most important thing of

all. Have a wonderful day everybody!

you
