How to receive automatic SYNC 3 software updates using Wi-Fi

You need your car parked with the handbrake on and in neutral

First, enable the system to receive automatic updates

Select 'Settings' on the home screen

Under 'General Settings' select 'Automatic System Updates'

Slide the button to 'On'

SYNC 3 will ask if you want to receive system updates

Select 'Yes' and you'll see a confirmation screen

Press 'Close' to return to the home-screen

You now need to connect to Wi-Fi

SYNC 3 will search for available networks

Alternatively, you can activate Wi-Fi manually

From the settings menu, swipe left to select the Wi-Fi icon

Slide the Wi-Fi button to 'On'

Now press 'View Available Networks'

Select the network you want to connect to

You may need to enter a password

Want SYNC 3 to notify you as other networks become available?

Just slide the Wi-Fi notification button to 'On'

SYNC 3 will now check for software updates. It'll download any when it connects to a Wi-Fi network

Whenever an update has completed, a 'System Updated' icon and message appears

Select this to find out more about the update

How to enable Android Auto on SYNC 3 | Ford Belgium - Duration: 2:06.

Want to seriously enhance your phone?

With Android Auto, you can control your smartphone apps using SYNC 3

Here's how to set it up:

You need your car parked with the handbrake on and in neutral

Press the 'Settings' icon in the feature bar

Press 'Android Auto Preferences'

Choose 'Enable Android Auto'

Plug your smartphone into a USB port

TOP TIP Your phone must be compatible with SYNC 3 and be running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher. You also need the latest version of the Android Auto app downloaded on your phone.

You'll see a pop-up message on your SYNC 3 touchscreen

Press 'Continue'

Press 'Agree' to accept the terms and conditions. Data charges may apply

Accept the terms and conditions on your phone

You might see another pop-up asking to enable Emergency Assistance

TOP TIP After the initial setup, your phone will connect to Android Auto automatically when plugged into a USB port

Now you can access phone, text messages, music, Google Maps and more

To make calls, use the voice activation button…

and talk to Google, just like on your phone

That's it. You can now enjoy Android Auto with SYNC 3

How to make the most of SYNC 3 Navigation

With SYNC 3 Navigation, you can get to any destination or place of interest quickly and easily

Here's how

First, make sure you're parked with the handbrake on and in neutral

Use touchscreen or voice-activated commands to input destinations

SYNC 3 remembers the places you search

There's a helpful predictive entry feature

Most navigation functions can be controlled with voice commands too

Say, "Show map" and you'll see your current location on screen

Or say "Show route" to see your chosen route

You can also access 3D mapping via the 'Map view' button. Or press 'Voice Control' and say, "Show 3D".

With intuitive voice recognition, addresses can be spoken naturally

Can't remember the whole name of a place of interest?

For instance, say "Find POI" then "Victoria Museum" (instead of 'Victoria and Albert Museum')

and SYNC 3 knows what you mean

For more guidance, press 'Voice Control' and say, "navigation help"

which is going to be produced much quicker,

and personalized to your own body.

If you're thinking of making your own product start-up

3D printing can simplify the process,

making it easier to prototype

and improve it for production-ready manufacturing.

Traditional manufacturing only becomes cost-effective

at economies of scale.

If you were using 3D printing,

then the first item costs as much as the millionth.

There are sustainability benefits to 3D printing as well.

When you're starting off with nothing,

and only selectively combining the material that you want,

you're creating much less waste.

Use your voice to open and control apps with AppLink and SYNC 3

With AppLink, you can control compatible smartphone apps using SYNC 3 voice commands

Here's how

First, make sure the ignition's switched on...

...the car is in neutral, and the handbrake's on

Then: 1. Make sure Bluetooth® is on

2. Your smartphone is paired and connected

3. Any apps you want to access are downloaded onto the device

TOP TIP You can connect your phone via Bluetooth® However, some devices will require a USB connection

Select the app you want on the touchscreen

You'll be asked if you want to enable mobile apps and accept the data usage. Charges may apply

Press 'Yes' and your app will open

You can also select an app by pressing 'Voice Control' and saying the name of the app. For example, "Ford Pass"

Once connected, use voice commands to control the app's features

To stop your app, just press 'Voice Control' again and say, "Close Ford Pass"

TOP TIP If SYNC 3 doesn't recognise an app, try closing and restarting the application

TOP TIP With most phones, apps should appear once restarted. For Android, press 'Connect Mobile Apps, or use the voice command 'Find applications'
