Auto news on Youtube Apr 7 2018

What's going on guys my name is Brandon Haneline here with Jeep Informant and

today I'm gonna be doing an apple carplay review on the UConnect 8.4

infotainment center alright guys let's go ahead and get started today

for this demonstration I'm gonna be using a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee now if

you would like for me to do a complete review on the 8.4 you can a radio on the

new Jeep Wrangler there's a voting poll up here in the top right corner just

click yes or no all right so we get our brand new Jeep and we are messing with

the radio and we see this apple carplay and android auto that it's grayed out

now why is that now the first thing I thought of is okay we don't have the

phone sync via bluetooth so I went ahead and in sync the phone bluetooth and

guess what they're still greyed out now what you want to do is go ahead and grab

the charger that your phone come with the Lightning port there on the end and

plug it into the USB media port now here is the media port for the Jeep Grand

Cherokee and here is the media port for the Jeep Wrangler now once you get your

phone plugged into the media port and plugged into the Lightning jack there

you will see the apple carplay logo light up right there now also the phone

shows the car plate logo now your phone will ask for permission to use apple

carplay this is a one-time thing basically this is going to mirror your

iPhone with selected apps like the phone music maps and messages as you can see

there now if you go ahead and click Maps as you can see this is the Apple maps

this is not the actual map of the UConnect radio now here we are back at

the home screen of carplay and as you can see down here at the bottom there's

this two little dots those are four different pages now here is some

third-party apps right here that's what I used to listen to Carolina basketball

and here's some Amazon music and audiobooks now whatever you have on your

phone will actually be mirrored to the radio so let's go ahead and click

podcast and these are some of the podcasts that I'll listen to now if you

look down on the bottom left hand corner you can see a little home button that

resembles the home button on your phone that's pretty cool now let's go ahead

and hit music and this brings up the music that's on your phone and you can

choose from artists playlists and different new genres now I'm going to

choose some playlists here now the beauty of this is that it mirrors your

iPhone so it makes a lot easier because you know where of things yeah now one

thing on the message is that you'll notice is that you can't if I try to

click it it's going to ask said we'll see what to reply No okay so it won't

let you obviously text you have to use Siri to talk to it and send message and

stuff like that so this VR button voice recognition button if you just push that

one time okay you get the Chrysler version of Siri which you have to

explain everything of what you do detailed instructions you have to say

the right words for it to work okay so if you want Siri to work what you do

point is trying again oh you definitely harmful alright so what you do is let's

push and hold this button there you go now they're Syria okay Siri what's the

weather out today it's currently clear and 44 degrees in Statesville

temperatures are heading down from 44 degrees this afternoon to 33 tonight

well I thank you so make sure if you push the voice recognition button press

and hold it and you get the Siri alright guys so

just actually found this out and did not realize it but it makes kind of sense I

was telling you that you had to push the VR button to get Siri that's actually

not true all you gotta do is say hey Siri what's

the way they're gonna be today it's currently clear and 44 degrees in

Statesville temperatures are heading down from 44 degrees this afternoon to

33 tonight so here we have the phone I can make a call for you or plate

who should I ring for you cancel okay so it acts just like Siri so it's a

wonderful wonderful feature um here we go this is your favorites just like home

favorites recents contacts keypad if you want hey guys appreciate you watching

there's tons and tons of features that this apple carplay has that i did not go

over if you'll just play around with it I'm sure you'll find it if there's

something that you don't understand or would like for me to do a video on

please leave a comment below I'd like to know your thoughts if you're here till

the end you must have liked it so smash that like button and subscribe for more

Jeep Wrangler Omix-ADA Front Bumper Kit - OE Replacement (1997-2006 TJ) Review & Install - Duration: 3:02.

This OMIX-ADA front bumper kit is an OEM style replacement style front bumper for those of

you who that have 1997 to 2006 TJ.

Now, if you are looking to replace that factory front bumper because it's dinged up, it's

rusted, whatever else might be wrong with it, maybe you're converting back to stock

from the aftermarket bumper.

Regardless of the reason, this is going to be a pretty much an exact replica of a factory

front bumper at a lower price than you'd be able to get it if you went directly to Mopar

and directly to the dealer.

This is going to be something that installs very easily onto your jeep.

Definitely a one out of three wrench installation in about an hour's time that will a little

bit depend on what bumper you currently have on the jeep, and getting that removed, however,

still very simple process and we'll talk more about that in just a second.

So like I said, this is really gonna be for those of you looking to return to a stock

look or replace a factory stock front bumper with one that is going to be brand new.

So, no rust, no fading, everything is going to be included here that you're going to need

to get it installed on your jeep.

And, it's gonna save you some money over going directly to the dealer, directly to Mopar.

So in my opinion this is gonna be a great option if you're going back to stock or replacing

a factory front bumper.

As for construction, there's not a lot to say about this bumper.

It is a factory front bumper in every way that you can imagine.

You have your center section here, which is gonna be steel.

You have your floaties, you have your bumper ends here on the corners.

You're going to be able to get everything installed very easily.

It's all going to bolt right up to your factory frame, making a very easy install.

So for that installation, definitely a one outta three wrench install, less than an hour

to get this installed.

All you have to do is remove your factory front bumper that you currently have on your

Jeep, or whatever aftermarket bumper you might have on your jeep.

You go ahead and set this over the frame rails.

It's gonna get bolted in from the bottom and also from the top and then you can attach

your corners.

You can probably attach the corners before you install the bumper on the jeep if you

chose to.

Really up to you, either way very easy process.

This bumper's gonna run you around $165 which I do think is gonna be a pretty good deal

when you consider what this would cost if you went directly to the dealership, got one

directly from Mopar that's gonna be much more expensive.

Now, ideally, you'd be able to just buy a Craigslist bumper, one that somebody took

off to put an aftermarket bumper [inaudible 00:02:17].

But even the newest TJ is going to be older these days.

Chances are the bumper's gonna be a little bit scratched up, rusted, faded, damaged in

one way or another.

So if you want something that is factory fresh, this is gonna be a great way to go for what

I think is a pretty good price.

So if you're looking for a factory style front bumper for your TJ at less than dealer prices,

this option from OMIX-ADA is going to be an excellent choice, and you can find it right

here at extremeterrain.com.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited review - Duration: 13:45.

Four years ago, on a gloomy day in May, I sold my 2007 Jeep Wrangler.

It wasn't the hardest decision of my life – not even close.

Though I'd spent well over $10,000 personalizing my red, two-door Wrangler; though we'd spent

hundreds of hours exploring the unpaved parts of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts;

though it made me feel like more of a badass than I preferred to admit – I sold it without

much fuss.

The decision to part ways with my Wrangler came down to one simple fact: it was awful

to drive around town.

Even at the origin of our relationship, when the rig was completely stock, it was loud,

unstable at speed, and jarring over just about any road surface.

By the time I'd added 35-inch AT tires, lifted it three inches, and adorned steel

bumpers front and rear, it was a veritable torture chamber.

Off-road, the Wrangler was unstoppable, but no amount of wheeling could excuse its on-road

demeanor.

But here's the thing about Wranglers: they're addicting.

Despite my eagerness to sell four years ago, I miss my truck constantly.

In my weaker moments, I sift through used car sites in the hopes of finding a newer

model at some absurd bargain.

It is, of course, a pointless exercise; the moment I go for a test drive, I'll simply

rediscover the truck's flaws.

Jeep appears to be privy to my problem (and, no doubt, the problem for many Wrangler owners),

because it's promising that the all-new Wrangler JL is finally one you can live with.

Better visibility, a smoother ride, advanced interior technology – it's all part of

the package.

So says Jeep.

To put these claims to the test, Digital Trends spent a week of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Unlimited (priced from $40,495 plus destination).

Few vehicles can challenge the Wrangler off-road, and even fewer stumble into the truck's

unique segment.

The closest rivals include Toyota's 4Runner TRD Pro, Jeep's own Grand Cherokee Trailhawk,

and the Land Rover Discovery.

None of these SUVs can take off their tops (or fold their windshields), but if the new

Wrangler isn't any better on-road, that might not matter.

Interior and tech There's little to distinguish the JL generation

Wrangler's exterior from its JK predecessor, so we won't spend much time picking it apart.

Overall, the 2018 model has grown by 2.8 inches in length for two-door models and 3.8 inches

for four-doors.

Both trucks are 0.2 inches wider.

Jeep's designers hide the growth spurt well with a bigger grill, larger headlights, narrower

bumpers, and skinnier fender flares.

Other tweaks include LED daytime running lights on the front fenders, rounded window housings,

a ventilated hood (Rubicon trims), and a redesigned soft-top.

In short, it still looks like a Wrangler.Inside, however, the changes are stark.

Even the most highly optioned JK Wranglers couldn't escape the feeling of cheapness.

Plastic panels, monotone color schemes, and outdated convenience features could sap the

life out of any good drive.

One look at the Grand Cherokee's plush quarters told us Jeep could do better with the new

Wrangler – and it has.

The JL's cabin is intuitive, high quality, and eye-catching.

The hideous old dashboard bulge is gone, replaced by a flat, vivid red panel that lends a substantially

more airy feel to the front cockpit, complemented by increased legroom for rear passengers.

Four adults fit comfortably and a relatively low transmission tunnel affords space for

a fifth in a pinch.

Our tester's leather-wrapped seats are upgrades to the standard cloth set, but the shape is

ergonomic for either configuration.

Cargo space is a generous 32 cubic feet with the rear bench in place, and 72.4 cubes with

it folded.

The updated cabin is more than just good for a Wrangler – it's a nicer place to spend

time than similarly priced rivals.

Rubicon models come standard with a 7.0-inch UConnect infotainment screen, though an 8.4-inch

display is available (paired with a nine-speaker Alpine sound system).

A prominent LCD driver display sits between an analog tachometer and speedometer, showing

speed, telemetry data, off-road information, media, and more.

UConnect continues to be one of our favorite infotainment systems, with clear visuals,

snappy response to inputs, and a user-friendly layout.

Drivers can use steering wheel controls, voice commands, physical buttons on the center stack,

or the touchscreen to adjust vehicle settings, affording plenty of redundancy based on personal

preference.

Showing Jeep is current with consumer tech, the Wrangler includes a number of USB and

USB-C ports, and comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Driver aids are limited to blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts and parking

sensors, but the new Wrangler's improved visibility means navigating city streets and

highways is a breeze.

If there's anything we're missing from the JL's list of available niceties, it's

adaptive cruise control.

Such a feature would only be relevant for automatic equipped models, but it's a big

help for long highway trips.Overall, the updated cabin is more than just good for a Wrangler

– it's a nicer place to spend time than the similarly priced Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro

and closer than we would have expected to the premium feel of the Grand Cherokee and

Land Rover Discovery.

Driving experience Under the Rubicon's vented hood is a 3.6-liter

V6 engine mated to a six-speed manual or available eight-speed automatic.

A two-speed manual transfer case sends power to the rear wheels or all four wheels at a

4.10 gear ratio.

With 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque on tap, the Wrangler Rubicon has plenty

of punch for rural or highway driving – provided you don't rush into a high gear.

Fuel economy is rated at 17 miles per gallon city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined

(20 mpg with the eight-speed auto) – besting the 4Runner's 18 mpg combined rating.Off-road,

the V6 is equally satisfying.

Motoring up steep inclines or negotiating deep ruts is all in a day's work.

Facing the most challenging off-road conditions, the Rubicon can disconnect its sway bars to

allow for greater wheel articulation, and lock its front and rear differentials to use

available power more effectively.

During our week with the rig, which included a test on some tricky obstacles, we never

required these lifelines.

Off-road, the old Wrangler was unstoppable, but no amount of wheeling could excuse its

on-road demeanor.

Those desiring more torque and better fuel economy can upgrade (for a fee) to a turbocharged

four-cylinder rated at 270hp and 295 lb-ft of torque – accessible earlier in the powerband

than the naturally aspirated V6.

Jeep will also offer a diesel engine and a plug-in hybrid down the road – both paired

exclusively to the eight-speed automatic.

If you plan to haul some motorized toys, the four-door Wrangler – rated at 3,500 pounds

towing capacity – is your best bet; two-door Wranglers are limited to 2,000 lbs.

It is no surprise that the new Wrangler can handle itself off-road, but, despite Jeep's

assurances, we weren't prepared for its road manners.

Even riding on the Rubicon's 33-inch all-terrain tires (the biggest ever fitted to a factory

Jeep), the rig is composed and smooth.

It's hard to believe the Wrangler still rides on solid axles and upholds the tradition

of body-on-frame construction.

Apart from some front-end brake dive, the truck restricts body roll mid-corner and steers

with reasonable precision (owed to a new recirculating ball and electro-hydraulic assist setup).

If there's one issue Jeep hasn't resolved with the new Wrangler, it's wind noise.

At highway speeds, air finds its way into the nooks and crannies of the soft-top to

make a whooshing noise.

The simple solution is to opt for the hard top, but such a choice all but eliminates

spontaneous, open-top motoring.

Removing a couple Freedom panels from the fixed roof just isn't the same. The best

thing we can say about the latest Wrangler's on-road behavior is that it is unremarkable.

You really can drive this vehicle just like any other SUV – a promise no preceding Wrangler

could make.

Is it more composed than a Land Rover or Grand Cherokee?

No.

However, those cross-shopping the 4Runner will find the two vehicles equally suited

to the daily commute.

Warranty The 2018 Jeep Wrangler comes with a three-year,

36,000-mile new car warranty and five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty – matching

Toyota's coverage.

Land Rover offers a slightly better warranty at four year or 50,000 miles.

Though some Fiat Chrysler vehicles are prone to maintenance issues, the Wrangler is among

the company's most reliable nameplates.

Moreover, the Wrangler holds its value quite well on the used car market.

How DT would configure this car Our perfect 2018 Jeep Wrangler doesn't come

cheap, but we'd argue the upfront cost is repaid in daily driving convenience and weekend

fun.

Start with the four-door (Unlimited) Rubicon paired with a six-speed manual, paint the

exterior in Bright White, apply the black Freedom top ($1,095), swap in black painted

17-inch wheels ($895), and equip LED headlights, taillights, and running lights ($895).

Inside, replace the 7.0-inch UConnect with an 8.4-inch system and its accompanying upgrades

($1,495), upgrade to a leather-cabin ($1,495), and add remote entry ($495).

Our final score is $48,095 plus $1,195 in destination and handling fees.

OUR TAKE Until now, a punishing ride and sloppy handling

was simply the price to pay for the Wrangler's incredible off-road capability and unquestionable

cool.

Many people have been willing to make such sacrifices, but still more (myself included)

have hoped for a better way.

After a week with the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, it is clear Jeep has found the

solution.

The new Wrangler is every bit as capable as its uncompromising ancestors, yet it also

affords premium amenities and ride quality to rival traditional SUVs.

The Land Rover Discovery can hang with the Wrangler on most trails and introduces luxury

touches beyond the scope of Jeep's current parts bin, but at $52,090 to start, the Discovery

is over budget for most mass-market shoppers.

At a much more palatable $43,395, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk trades some of the

Wrangler's off-road tenacity for long-haul comfort.

If you aren't in love with the Wrangler's look, and can apply another $6,000 to the

cause, the Trackhawk is an excellent alternative.

The 2018 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited's closest competitor is Toyota's 4Runner TRD Pro ($42,875).

Priced closest to the Wrangler, offering similar curb appeal, and earning comparable respect

from off-road enthusiasts, the TRD Pro deserves consideration.

Do keep in mind, however, that the 4Runner is due for a redesign in the next year or

two.

Should you get one?

More than any Wrangler before, we consider this is a great buy.

Putting the Wrangler on top of its competitors is its unique versatility (how many other

convertible, solid-axle SUVs can you name?), segment-best pricing, customization potential,

and standard convenience features.

Be you purist or pragmatist, the new Wrangler delights.
