Me:Turn on studio lights Assistant: you got it turning on two things

What's up everyone Mitesh here back at it again today with another Tech Tip Tuesday and today

I'm gonna be showing you guys one of the

cheapest ways to get into smart home automation, and that's by buying smart plugs.

So smart plugs are plugs that go into your outlet

And then they control the power going to a device that you plug in to them

The way they work is they connect to Wi-Fi and then you can use an app or voice assistant like Google home or Amazon

Alexa to control them. So in this video

I'm going to show you guys what the benefits of getting a smart plugs are versus getting like a smart device

And then I'm also going to talk about ways you can use smart plugs to make your life better.

So there's a couple of reasons why you may consider getting smart plugs over a smart device itself and the main ones are the

Cost and then there's gonna be the fact that you probably already own a device that you like that you want to make smart.

Cost wise the one that I - the smartplugs that I got are from a company called Sieges. They sell them on Amazon

They're 2/$25, which is a great price links in description if you guys are interested, but yeah

So there's two for twenty-five dollars whereas for example if you were to get a smart coffee maker

That's month coffee maker roll command at least a fifty to a hundred dollar premium over a regular coffee maker so

It's it worth it to buy that versus just getting a regular coffee maker and plugging it into one of these things

I don't know

But that's where number two comes in most likely you already own a coffee maker that you like and that you just want to make

A little bit smarter, so that's where these come in really handy. So for example for me

I have these two studio lights that I like a lot

and

I just want to be able to control them with my voice so when I'm ready to record I could just tell Google to turn

on studio lights

And yeah, so for me this made a lot more sense and try to replace these with smart studio lights

It just- I don't even know those exist and if they did I'm sure they cost a lot of money

So those are pretty much the reasons you would pick smart plugs over smart device itself

And I want to move on to the second half of this video

which I talked about how you can use from our plugs inside of your house because

they do take a little bit of thought into how you

use them because

They only control two things they can turn on and off a device so you want to think about where you can best use these

And one of the backs might coffee maker example because I think that's one of the best places to use it. So for the coffee

Maker you just plug your coffee maker into one of these smart plugs

and then in the morning when you get up you can just tell your phone turn on coffee maker or

Tell Google home to turn on coffee maker and it'll just do it in fact Google home

It has started to have routines, so you can add this as a part of your

Good morning, routine, so when you say good morning to it

It'll not only tell you the traffic the weather and all that but it can also turn on your coffee maker so

It'll be ready by the time you get to your kitchen or wherever you have a coffee maker now

I'll be covering Google routines in another video so make sure you guys are subscribed so you don't miss that one, but yeah

So that's a that's a good place to use it for me like I said my studio lights made a lot of sense for

You guys, maybe you just have a lamp that you really like and you want to just be able to automate it

Yeah, just throw the plug on there

And then you can just do it with your voice or via the app and that's a great way to do it, too.

One of the other place you can use it is with like a hair straightener if you might have one of those if you just

Want to be sure that you turned it off

You can just plug it into one of these so even if you leave the house like "Did I turn off that

straightener?" you can be sure by just going to the app and

Turning it off or since it takes some time to heat up

You can tell just it to turn on this when you get out of bed

And I'll be ready by the time you get into the bathroom

So those are some ways that you could make use of these thoughtfully.

Hey, so buying a bunch of smart bulbs to have smart lighting in your house can get

ridiculously expensive

But you still want to have a smart lighting in your house. Well, how about installing one?

Hey, what's up guys here at gross Tech our goal is to simplify?

Whether that's installation use or setup that is our goal to help you guys and this video is

Lighting now does that mean that when you walk in a room the lights come on. Yes does that mean that you can say hey?

Smart voice assistant turn on my light yes, but more than that it means

Controlling everything automatically and to be able to set up schedules and everything like that, but with

Bulbs it can get so expensive

You have the lifx bulbs or the philips hue bulbs and they're close to 50 bucks a bulb I have

lightbulbs in this house

That's over a grand. That's ridiculous

I'm not gonna spend that much money to have smart lighting in my house and

That's what we're gonna look at today, we're gonna look at the Maxiell smart wall light switch now

There's other brands levitron

ecobee just came out with their new one, but this one was sent to us by Mac Co, it's

$25 I'll put a link in the

Description below that will take you to Amazon as well as the levitron and to the ecobee because they're all

There to help the idea and keep you from spending

thousands of dollars on light bulbs

Think about it

Every light switch controls either one or multiple light bulbs like this fan ceiling fan lights that we have here in this office

It's got four bulbs in it that means I would have to spend

$200 at least to just have smart lighting in here

And then I don't even have a switch to really control it I have to find my phone right to say hey

Somebody turn on my light or turn it off that can get annoying well

That's what we're gonna look at this Mac seals wall light switch, so let's look inside here. We've got the manual

We've got the switch itself, which is simple. We've got rocker switches here at home

Looks a lot like a rocker switch. It's just a button though

For wires now. This is where you need to make sure to see what you have in your wall as far as the wiring

Most if not all smart light switches need a neutral or a white wire

They have the ground your load, which is the wire that goes up to the light, and then your hot wire well?

But you also need the neutral wire so make sure before you buy anything make sure you've got that neutral wire

What else do we got in here? We've got a wall plate, which is nice to fit along and the mounting screws for it

So let's switch off the breaker

So we're safe here make sure before you do any of this if you're not an electrician

Don't do this if you're comfortable with electricity and you're comfortable switching this out

Hey, that's all on you not on me, so please be careful if you do decide to do that yourself

But let's bring it in and actually

install this

All right now one thing I did before I switch the breaker off. I figured out

What is my hot wire coming in from the panel and what is the load going to the?

Ceiling so make sure you figure that out

Before you turn the breaker off

Alright, so we got the breaker back on. Let's test it

Turns it off alright turn that back on. We'll grab our

mounting screws and

Now that our smart light switch is installed and

operational

As you can see it turns it on and off with the actual switch, which is nice

You don't have to go find some smart device to turn your light on grab your phone

And you will want to go and get the smart life app now smart life

And the tire smart app are pretty much the same thing

I already have the tightest mark app installed for some outlets as well

So we're going to use that go ahead and open it up, but it'll look exactly the same here. We will want to add

Now we want to do a wall switch

Now to make sure it's in

Blinking mode hold the button down for five seconds so now that the latest switch we want to confirm

rapidly go ahead and put your

Password in for your Wi-Fi, and it is connecting now

So now we're just gonna let it

Connect through the system all right so that device is added. I'm gonna rename this to the office

Now and that's got a new firmware always make sure you update your firmware all right

We're gonna turn it on light comes on turn off and lights are off now

The cool thing that you can also do with this is you can

Have a timer you

Can set up timing as in times that this turns on and off automatically?

so now you can actually use your like I'm gonna use the Google assistant to do this by make sure your

You are linked with the tire smart or your smart life app is linked to your

Google home or your Amazon

echo and there you go now with everything installed on your phone and

Linked you can now control this with your voice with your phone

With the simple push of a button it all will work, and that's the point of smart lighting

It's not so much that it makes it difficult

And it's more difficult to use than the dumb alternative just the normal switch

Introducing the Smart Baby Buggy - Duration: 2:26.

I'm Ramona Williams and I'm 34 and I'm from London I was born with a rare eye

condition called congenital toxoplasmosis which means I have no

central vision my original idea for the buggy was to invent something that could

help people with sight loss maneuver around the streets without having to

feel that they're gonna bump into anyone or crash into a lamppost using a

pushchair this collaboration came about as I went

to an innovation workshop where Imperial was working with the community in White

City and from there we started talking about the design then we did a follow up

in the summer of what my idea was for the smart baby buggy. The way the sensors

work is that, lets say a person was walking towards the buggy at a distance

of 2 meters, the sensors will already pick it up that there's an obstacle

coming towards the buggy so it will relay that information to the vibrating

motors in the handles. And as the person gets closer, the vibrations start to

increase so you know that it's getting closer and you have to move. We have

developed an app that could differentiate differences between curbs

pavements and braille bumps. It would then output a sound that was sent in to

Ramona's headphone I'm loving the prototype. Considering the students and I

only met in October to now, they have developed it in a short space of time

which I'm really proud of them. I'm quite happy, I love prototype.

I'm looking forward to the festival, talking to the public and showing them

what the students and I what we came up with together and giving them the

knowledge that people...it's just giving them the knowledge that people with

sight loss are no different.

show you how to connect it to your phone via bluetooth. To connect your MooYee what

you're gonna do is down the bottom here hit device then you're gonna hit add

device it's gonna pop up with the MooYee you have an M1 start MooYee it's then going

to search for the MooYee your device and pop up down here what I want you to do is

just hit that little circle and then what you're going to do is hit the test

button. With the test you're gonna see that the MooYee light is going to go dim

we're just going to let you know that that MooYee is connected. From there to

ensure that your MooYee stays connected to your phone what I want you to do is hit

the plus button then your MooYee is connected sometimes it may take a short

period of time for you to be able to see the battery percentage other times it'll

appear straight away but that'll let you know that your MooYee is connected and it'll

also be a great indication for when you need to charge it.
