Western Power has introduced a new standard mini pillar to the network.
The new mini pillar looks different to the older domed mini pillar, is slightly
larger and will require a slightly larger footprint when installed. Some of
the main differences of the new rectangular mini pillar include the new
shape and colour change, new internal board with terminal blocks on both sides
which are now also colour-coded. Two additional holes in the neutral terminal
block. Connections to the new terminal blocks are all from below.

One red spot fuse on the board and provision for two fuses on the
additional board. Larger underground footprint for increased stability in the
ground. All you need for the mini pillar installation is a 3 millimetre hex
tool and pillar key. To assemble the additional red spot fuse board you'll
need a drill, 3 millimetre drill bits and star screwdriver. An example of
installing a core, according to the wiring diagram, the connection rules for
this pillar are listed in the three connections drawings in the distribution
construction standards handbook, which account for the different supply
arrangements. Please ensure you've reviewed these new construction drawings.
As a general rule the supply in is connected to the rightmost holes of each
terminal block. Provision is made for looping out to another pillar using the
holes immediately adjacent to the supply in. The remainder of the holes are used
for connecting loads. Customers to the left are connected to holes closest to
that side of the pillar and vice versa. UMS and streetlights are connected in
between the customer connections.
A single red spot fused location is available on the board with two
additional red spot fuses which can be installed using the additional fuse
assembly kit.
This, in short, is an introduction to the new mini pillar. Reiterating the parts of
the installation that remain the same, the earth rod is installed in the middle
of the pillar. The exclusion zone remains at 500 millimetres from the middle of
the pillar and all cables must be labelled. For any additional information,
