Auto news on Youtube Nov 28 2017

Hi everyone, today I will be testing the new BMW S1000XR, thios 2017 version has a new engine, which comes form the S1000RR and a new handlebar with lower vibrations thanks to silentblocks

Here you can see the big windshield, the uneven front light, 150mm travel fornt fork, 17 inch rims

On the cockpit there's the rev counter and a digital display with all the info, with the remainig fuel range, since this bike, with 165 HP, has a pretty high fuel consumption

On the side you can noticesome tubes and wirings, since this bike comes from a superbike, with a cowling. The 2\ bikes share the same frame and rear arm

but the rear frame is much different, making this bike suitable for travelling with a passenger

and the two side bags can store a full face helmet

On this side we can notice the muffler, the seat is pretty big but a bit hard, yet we have tested if and it's comfortable, even for the passenger

The foot pegs are coated in rubber and even on this side we can see some wirings. Look at how big the radiators are, made to cool down the big 165 HP engine

the tyres have a size of 120/70/17 at the front and190/55/17 at the rear and Brembo radial brakes

On the left block we can set up the suspensions, TC, ABS, cruise control and trip

On the right side we can set up the riding modes and turn on the heat for the hand grips

The price 16,400 euro but there are many optionals. If you want the bike like the oe you see here, you need to add the Dynamic package, with electornic shift and 2 additional riding modes, which costs 1.100 euro

While the Touring with electronic suspensions, heated hand grips, central stand and the side bags frame, which don't look good but they're comfortable. It costs 1.400 euro, plus the bags

The weight is of 2228 Kg, the seat is very low, 84 cm and the 17 inch rims maker it very agile, obviously you can't use it off road

Let's now ride it!

Here we are on this BMW S1000XR, compared to the 1st model, this one has the latest engine with 165 HP and a weight of a bit over 200Kg. I have the electronic suspensions set up on Road

since he road is pretty bumpy. The engine is set on Dynamic, it's very regular, the riding posiiton is very comfortable, like on a crossover motorcycle, similar to the Multistrada

It's very easy to handle and the 17 inch front wheel makes it fun together with the suspensions that are very reactive

The vibrations have been drastically limited compared to the 1st model, they don't bother at all, the passnger has a lot of space and the side bags are big

riding on the highway it's very comfortable and fast, but the fuel consumption is pretty high, remember that the engine is derived from the Superbike

The shift has long gears, it goes up to 12,000 RPM, in 2nd gear you can go up to 160Kph, over 12,000 RPM it's extremely fast, it's amazing

in 1st gear we can reach 120Kph, in 2nd gear 160 and in 3rd gear 192 KPH, it's amazing

we're now going downhill on a twisty road. It's fast and agile, similar to the RR, on Road riding mode, the beavior is a bit more calm

ESA suspensions are very comfortable on Road on ruined pavements, on Dynamic you need to ride on a perfect road, since it's very stiff

The heat coming from the engine is nopt bad at all, less than the Multistrada, what I've noticed is that in a stressfull usem the front brake tent to get stressed

Ok here we are, so let's recap. What I like: Very powerful engine yet very flexible, but pay attention, it's very fast

then I like how easy to ride it is thanks to a great frame and to the active suspensions

The last thing I like about it is the riding position which is extremely comfortable even for the passenger

What I don't liike: The vibrations, fuel consumption when riding fast (11Km/l)

When riding a motorcycle, remeber to wear the right protections, like these jeans, boots, back protector, jackets with protectors, motorcycle gloves, full face helmet and drink just water!
