Look out, Porsche! Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster spotted

Speaking at the world debut of the GT R on the eve of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the chairman of Mercedes-AMG – Tobias Moers – told CAR a GT roadster was on the cards.

He wasnt joking: our latest spyshots are proof that the soft-top Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster is under development. Our spy photographers have captured it being benchmarked against Mercs perennial sports car nemesis - the Porsche 911.

We'd wager that there's no folding hard-top at play here, either – just a good old canvas roof. That said,  it could be a cunning disguise tacked on to put us off the scent of a folding metal roof.

Both regular 456bhp GT and 503bhp GT S versions of the roadster are expected – and it could go on to become a big seller, as many warmer markets lap up the alfresco thrills promised by convertibles of this ilk.

Find out for real at the Paris motor show in September 2016, where were expecting the roofless GT to be revealed. What other AMG GT models are in the works?.

With the AMG GT, GT S, and now the R already in production, Mercedes-Benz has previously suggested that a further two derivatives are in the pipeline.

One will almost certainly come in the form of the AMG GT Black Series, likely boasting more power than the GT R and arriving nearer the end of the car's production lifecycle.

Moers confirmed that any Black Series model would come after the launch of the convertible AMG GT, which is expected in the next 12 months.

CAR understands that the GT cabrio will be available in GT or GT S form, keeping the more focused GT R as a fixed-roof only edition. A GT4 racer, too?.

Moers let slip AMG was working on a GT4 racer. It would be a track-only car and bridge the gap between the AMG GT R and GT3, competing in the GT4 race series.

It's unclear which roadgoing Mercedes-Benz this would be derived from, although expect it to be based on one of the brand's existing range as opposed to a brand new model.

New Porsche Cayenne 2018 REVEALED - UK price, specs, release dates and pictures

Porsche has pulled the wraps of the next-generation Cayenne SUV, which has been completely overhauled.   Although, it may not look like it on first glance the new SUV is longer, leaner and has a dynamic new character.

The car's new grille, air intakes and bonnet lines begin to distinguish it from previous generation and the bigger overall shape and presence the vehicle now has.

The previous generation bonnet perhaps look like a sports car emerging from an SUV while the new vehicle looks more comfortable in its own appearance and seems to been have designed this way.

It's a much more lovable design than before and enough has been done to entice new customers or those wanting to upgrade their old Cayenne to the latest version.  "Our primary objective was to accentuate the character of the vehicle.

More Porsche, more Cayenne.

The new Cayenne is more precise, elegant, athletic and expressive", says Michael Mauer, Director of Style at Porsche AG, who unveiled the style of the new Cayenne alongside Peter Varga (Director Exterior Design) and Ivo van Hulten (Director Interior Design).

Over 760,000 Cayennes have been sold since 2002 in a successful legacy.  The new model benefits form a lightweight construction which makes it 65kg lighter than before despite its larger size and more equipment on board. .

Two variants of the new car will launch when it goes on sale - Cayenne and Cayenne S. These cars are initially distinguishable by their different powertrains. .

The Cayenne is powered with a six-cylinder turbo engine delivering 340bhp and 450Nm of torque allowing it to go from zero-62mph in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.  Powering the Cayenne S is a 2.9-litre V6 engine with twin turbocharging.

This higher powered model provides 440bhp and 550Nm of torque which will take it from standing to 62mph in just 5.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 164mph.  With the addition of the Sports Chromo Package these acceleration times can be shaved by 0.3 seconds on the Cayenne and 0.2 seconds (5.9 seconds) on the Cayenne S (4.9 seconds).

"We have completely redeveloped our successful model.

It has been visibly and tangibly improved and perfected in all respects.  "The Cayenne has also been digitalised and networked throughout to give it a forward-thinking design", says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche AG.

Porsche says the car has a been heavily inspired by the 911. Rear-axle steering, air suspension, Porsche 4D Chassis control and electronic stabilisation system have been added to give the car a more sporting driving dynamic, like the 911. .

Waiting with the engines is an new eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox which has sportier ratios and response times in the gears which is said to improve its on-road performance and off-road capability.

LED main headlights, larger wheels, ParkAssist (front and rear), an LTE telephone module including a WiFi hotspot, Porsche Connect services and anticipatory pedestrian protection have all been added to the car's arsenal boosting its performance and connectivity.

The car is available to order now costing from £55,965 for the standard Cayenne and £68,330 for the Cayenne S.
