At BMW Motorrad they say 'there's no such thing as 50 percent passion

If you're serious about something your passion knows no limits'.

Even more so since I took out this game changer out…

for a lap around the Isle of Man TT curcuit.

My name is Peter Hickman

and I'm excited to present to you

the BMW HP4 RACE here

within the revered walls of BMW Motorrad.

The HP series has a long history of raising the bar

regarding performance and fit-for-racetrack technologies.

Now, with the HP4 RACE BMW Motorrad will go even further.

To begin with, the HP4 RACE is limited to just 750 units, each of them hand-made.

The engineers at BMW have taken it to the limit and beyond

to put together the best racing technology available today.

The BMW HP4 RACE is every bit a racetrack-only superbike.

THE ultimate superbike.

And yet it can be handled,

no matter at what your capability, pace or professional level.

But before I get lost in all this engineering

I'd like to have a real expert crunching the facts and figures for us.

The HP4 RACE comes at an very ambitious price

and also is for the racetrack-only. Why is that?

If you tuned up a normal Double R with HP forged wheel,

full titanium system, Race Calibration Kit,

then you'd get a really good normal sport bike.

If you want to build a real race bike, then you have to build the HP4 RACE,

with carbon frame, carbon rims, to get the best performance in a real race bike.

Talking about performance, let's have some numbers.

That's 300 more than the Double R.

And what about the Parc fermé weight?

We have here 160 kilo Parc Fremé weight.

That's 8 kilo less than World Super Bike. And just 3 kilo more than MotoGP.

And that's a really impressive weight for a modern superbike as well.

The big deal is the frame, HP4 RACE carbon frame, and the wheels.

Because on the wheels we reduced the weight for 30 percent.

We reduced the gyroscopic force by 40 percent.

you can feel that during braking, because you can definitely brake later.

At acceleration as well, because you have less forces. And for changing the lines.

Yeah, as soon as I rode it on the TT,

the big thing I could tell is the quick change of directions on the fast corners.

The bike, the HP4 RACE, turns so easily.

The change of direction was much, much easier than normal for me.

Normally on street superbike you have 1 horsepower per 1 kilo,

here with the HP4 RACE you have per 1 kilo close to 1.4 horsepower.

this is HP4 carbon frame, full carbon frame, Carbon Drive technology

Do you wanna have it?

Yeah, I feel it …

It's 7.8 kilo, it's four kilo less than the normal Double R frame.

And what we tried to build was perfect stiffness, perfect torsion

and nice flexibility. So, that you've got a really good feeling if you want to

brake deep in corners, accelerate, or you have a bumpy track.

We have four riding modes. WET, Intermediate, DRY 1, DRY 2.

And we have a nice traction control. Dynamic Traction Control:

15 levels, you can adjust the levels here.

The green button is for more support, less support.

Here you can change between Dynamic Traction Control and engine brake.

So, you have everything that you need on the race track.

It made the bike very easy to ride.

And I think, that's something that is very, very important for a modern day superbike.

The BMW HP4 RACE is a racing bike in absolutely every detail.

Every single part has professional motorsport genes.

As for example the brakes, Sepp, are World Superbike brakes?

Definitely it's World Superbike technology.

And they use the same brake system in the MotoGP.

Then you get the fork from Öhlins, FGR 300 fork; it's World Superbike.

The same as the brakes.

Then you have the switch from World Superbike. Triple clamp. 2D dashboard.

Then we come next to the HP quick shifter; it's real race quick shifter,

short, quick time for changing the gears.

Foot rests, the World Superbike swing arm.

And 2D GPS data locker. So, fully racing equipped.

That was the plan when we built the HP4 RACE to build the best race bike

for our customers and our racers. That was the goal.

Sepp, thank you very much for your time and information.

It was a pleasure.

The BMW HP4 Race is a complete superbike. And it's available to you.

In my experience the HP4 RACE was absolutely everything I'd expect out of a superbike.

And a bit more as well

Now do we know everything about the HP4 RACE now.

But we don't know is what you all think about it.

So, if you have any comments, then please do visit the BMW Motorrad page on Facebook.

And let us know what you think. Thanks a lot and see you soon.

BMW i8 - test - Jest Pięknie za kierownicą - Duration: 5:02.

Of all the cars I got to drive, BMW i8 isn't the fastest nor the most expensive one.

But it's the ultimate head-turner.

You don't see too often a car straight out of comic. Strong lines, Lambo doors - none of your neighbours has a BMW like this.

362 HP is not sth everyone has, either.

How do you drive this thing? Here's 8 things you have to know about BMW i8.

First of all, before you start commenting that HP from electric and petrol motor doesn't add up - here it does.

In a Prius, electric and petrol motor power one axle

Also, the power curve is different

Here, both axles are powered independently, so the HP adds up.

2. How do you get into this one?

Dear ladies - ass goes first.

Here, the sill is wide. Not as wide as in a Lotus, but still

you have to make sure you can pull your legs inward

Exiting is easy - if you're wearing trousers.

Is a dress, especially a bodycon, I wouldn't know where to start.

3. more and more cars have some sort of parking heating or ventillation.

In a plug-in hybrid, when it's plugged in, you don't use up the range.

4. for those who don't know much about hybrids: this a plug-in hybrid.

So you charge it from a wall socket, and you have a range of 20-30 kms without using the petrol motor.

Afterwards, it's the same as in classic hybrid - electric and petrol motors work together

to optimise fuel consumption.

For example, electric motor helps with starting the car, and the batteries charge during coasting and braking.

5. technically, it's a 4-seater.

I'm not even getting in the back. Only my cat would travel there comfortably.

By chance, I got to drive with 3 people in the car a few days back and let's just say nobody was comfortable.

Well, except me, but I always sit close to the wheel.

6. driving BMW i8 is like driving any other BMW sports car.

OK, M3 it ain't, which to me is not bad, as I felt overwhelmed by M3's power.

Here, I've got more than enough HP, I can drive fast, it it's less intimidating, more comfortable.

Which doesn't mean people won't try to race you. Because they will.

7. i8 has a 154 litre boot - almost the same size as my Mazda Miata.

But to be honest it's not a car for hauling a yearly supply of potatoes

And if you want to travel in i8, a few years back, Louis Vuitton launched a luggage collection especially for i8.

8. BMW i8 may be 3 years old, but it's still a head-turner.

Greetings to the guy who simply couldn't grasp the reality of me reversing i8 from a parking yesterday!

I still love this car, too.

And you? Let me know in the comments below.

If you liked my vide, give it a thumb up

And if you want to be notified about each new video from me, press the bell button

Next test next Thursday, same time. Thanks, and see you soon!
