Hi I'm Natasha with BareTalk TV and it's been interesting with protesters
who are protesting the Kinder Morgan pipeline in a quite an ironic way, as I'm
sure they all get into their cars and drive up Burnaby mountain to
protest a pipeline. Most of their houses are probably already on existing
pipelines and during some of these protests, the leader of the Green Party
or whatever her name is, Elizabeth May was arrested and some people consider
this to be a patriotic act which is not patriotic in any fucking way you slice
it, so I just want to know what your thoughts are because I'm really getting
sick of these protesters who are protesting a federally approved project.
mmm federally approved that's - It's approved - Oh I know that! Oh I know it's
Federally approved and I know very well how the laws are that anything
that's involving provinces, more than one province and this type of scenario it
now goes to the federal government which has been federally approved.
I think a lot of this is people were taken by surprise because of course one
of the election promises by Justin Trudeau is that he didn't approve this
pipeline what is the prize and so and and so I think that took a lot of people
also by surprise, this is very dear to a lot of hearts of British Columbians
that they're gonna show it definitely in the next federal election that
definitely is something that's going to show. Pipeline or no pipeline I
mean that's one thing that I'm sure what we'll talk about to you but I think to
me the big thing right now is protesting, and the protests that are going on and
and I respect people who do protest I really do because there are so many
things that we wouldn't have today that are positive if somebody didn't protest.
I would not have the right to adopt kids, I would not have the right to get
married, all of these things happened because people protested and well they
were protesting the federal government, so this is a protest against the federal
government. Other protests against the federal government
protesting laws, well we just talked about a show in our last show about all
of these teenagers who are now marching to demand gun control well they're
marching for something that's all they're marching against the law okay
there mark there they're trying to change the law, this is happening
here they're, saying okay they're not denied these protests here, they're
not denying that the pipeline is legal, they're saying "we care so much about
safety, about our coastlines, about this whole project not happening that we
are gonna protest - It just seems like its coming from an informed place and when you look at safety like the City of
Vancouver this report that came out which even like the facts in that report
it's like "we have a 16 to 67 per chance percent chance of seeing a spill from a
pipeline, or from the boats carrying fuel." And I just feel like there's a lot of
hypocrisy, it's like "how are you getting after protests do you live in a house? Do
you use a cell phone? Do you wear clothing? Like we need resources. Have you
seen our gas prices? And so like I don't compare it all to gun control, and
a lot of these protesters are being paid for, they're being funded by foreign
interests which aren't even Canadian so fuck that, it's patriotic because it's
not. - I also know that we can never be safe enough and we can look at more at
maybe more safety precautions that when it comes to our waters. We do know that
the Gulf of Mexico is still suffering from the damage how many years ago is
that now at least five or six years, those beaches still aren't clean, so we
have to look at that British Columbia we rely on our coastlines. - But there are already tankers that are taking fuel - absolutely
but I think part of what their point is is the the traffic there is going to
increase, and I don't know if the safety plan has been strong enough to allow
that increase of the amount of tankers because we're looking at coastlines. Now
Prince Rupert, that's a very dangerous channel to maneuver all of these tankers,
that's where a BC Ferries sunk not too many years ago, right? - Well, they were
having sex - but those challenges. Well yeah people have sex all the time
everywhere, it's not just elevators anymore but anyways, or motorcycles -
That's what happened with the ferry - Yeah, but that being said,
Those channels are extremely narrow in some very shallow
We can be safe - we can be, but I don't know if the protesters feel that a
safety plan has been in place, that is - Then maybe they should volunteer, instead of holding their signs. -
I agree, maybe they should - That they drew with felts, that were made in
factories that were powered - But they are doing they are doing something
they are doing something with their hearts and people I think, if more of us -
They are stopping people from working. - I'm not saying that we should all protest everything
but if more of us went through life with our hearts I think we would have a lot
of good things. Now, that's not saying I'm in it I believe all of this is a good
thing butI do respect people who go, "well, I care enough about
something to put myself out there." Because a lot of people just don't care
about anything, and I got to respect someone who cares. Protests have done
very positive things in the past and I guess I mean and I guess it really
depends on on what they're really what they're doing in this protest if they
want to make their voices heard I think it's very important - If they want to stop people from working, which also annoys the hell
out of me because these are people who are trying to work, actually work not
protest, and these protesters are stopping them from doing that - The people that
don't want this, the environmentalist, there they're worried about the environment,
they're worried about spills, correct - But they don't understand that they live over
pipelines. There's so many pipe lines. That's true, we have had pipelines
for how many decades? - And like you said, how did they get up Burnaby Mountain, did they drive their car?
Or they take their canoe? Like I don't think so. I remember hearing a story about the
Burnaby Mountain protest a few years ago. There were these women actually from Chicago,
got on a plane to be at this protest and everyone was like, "look at these
protesters." I'm like, "are you fucking kidding me? They got on a plane to then
drive up the mountain to protest fuel, cool oh okay that makes a lot of sense."
They should have Skyped in, I would have admired them more. There's just, there's a
lot of hypocrisy. They're stopping people from working, and this is good for our
economy, and we need fuel. I understand there's alternative resources but until
you as a protester can use those alternative resources to get you to
these protests to plan your protest don't use phones, don't use computers,
live in your house, then I'll agree with you. I'll concede defeat then.- Well it'll be
interesting to see really what happens with this because now that if she's
arrested, well if you're arrested it means you broke a law, well can you be a
member of parliament if you've broken the law? I don't know can you do this
like how is that gonna be looked upon. I believe too that a federal NDP
Member of Parliament was also part of the arrest, so now that party's gonna
have to look "we've now had somebody here in our party who's been arrested."
What does that mean for Canada? Like you're the ones that are supposed to
uphold the law so I do have to say that
I respect people going with their heart for a lot of things like, I really do,
and I do know where they're coming from but I also understand a lot
of people do have to do more research about what we are protesting.
Whenever we protest, and I think we look at a lot of things. - Yeah I agree with you,
you know I do think that if you're gonna protest something, you know if you're
gonna talk about a problem you should work on the solution as well, don't just
yell and don't drive your car up to a protest about pipelines. So I am
Natasha with BareTalk TV, this is a super controversial subject and we'd
love to hear your thoughts and follow us with all the links below, and let us know
what you think. Motorcycles take less gas by the way, everybody I'll offer
offer free riding lessons So do horses. - Well I've had those too,
right? Being a Surrey farm boy, right?
