When it comes to learning new tricks, taking off in different positions adds
to your overall spatial awareness. Let's touch on seat drops and backdrops which
both fall backwards. Using your seat drop doesn't work very well with the Tramp
Skis because they're close to the bed, so let's mainly focus on backdrop when
you're wearing the skis. Without the skis, let's do some seat drops. Having a stop
bounce, straight jump and an on-ground seat position or solid pre-requisites.
Look at the end of the trampoline through the whole trick. You can start
with your arms already above your head, we call this a preset, or use them from
the trampoline to get some pop. To get to your seat drop comfortably, you need to
leave the tramp with a slight backward rotation and your arms overhead. Have
your elbows partially bent in order to push off the tramp and back up to your
feet. Now we can move to the back drop. Make sure to have a solid seat drop that
you can repeat over and over again before getting into it. Also, work on your
back drop position on flat ground before just chucking it. Place a mat on the
tramp for the first one.
On first attempts it's possible you'll land uneven and bounce your head. The goal is
to get your hips, shoulders and back of your head to get to the ground
simultaneously. When you do it with the skis on, you need to give yourself extra
space on your landing for the tail. Try to be straight in the air and bend at the
hips as you drop to find the back drop position. The backward rotation comes
from the feet pushing backwards on the trampoline during your takeoff. Now you
have the fundamentals to start playing with some bigger tricks like ski grabs
