Auto news on Youtube Apr 2 2018

Ciao everyone, here it's Marchettino and today we go for a drive in a german supercar with a bit of italian side, let's find out the new Audi R8 Plus!

As you know, nowadays many enthusiasts criticize Lamborghini for being germanized,

needless to deny that when Audi bought Lamborghini back in 1998, the company faced through a massive change.

if from a point of view they cleaned up the balance sheet of the company, from another one we can't deny from Lambos of today we find much from Audi.

A couple of years ago I got to test Huracan and many people consider it an Audi R8 and well,

today I'm driving the new Audi R8 Plus thanks to my friends at STZ Auto and today we'll find out how much Lamborghini Huracan is in the Audi R8

or maybe the question should be, how much Audi R8 is in the Lamborghini Huracan?

Between the Audi R8 Plus and the Lamborghini Huracan, the price is not that different in the italian market.

In the foreign market like the british one the R8 Plus is 20k € cheaper than here, by making an even higher gap with the Huracan

even if imho my first impressions, it's like driving a Lamborghini.

And talking about performance, needless to deny they're very similar by starting from the V10 behind me which is the same

N/A 5.2L V10 that guess what? Produces the same power, 610hp and 560nm of torque.

Let's switch to Dynamic mode and see how does the R8 goes.

The sound is literally the same!

If I close my eyes probably I end up off the road, but the feeling is like driving a Lamborghini!

As you might hear between every gear change, also the R8 has a double clutch and guess what? Is the same as the Huracan.

In Audi it's called S-Tronic, in Lamborghini " Lamborghini Doppia Frizione ", let's say S-Tronic is a less exotic name!

And just like on the Huracan, also the driving position is the same and I like it,

it gives you the impression to be sittin' on the ground and you're nicely wrapped by these seats that aren't even that uncomfy, I have to say!

By switching back to Comfort mode, the suspensions are softer and all of a sudden this car becomes even more practical and usable in the city.

And if there's a plus to give to the R8, the R8 is more unnoticeable compared to the Lambo, that's for sure but I wonder

if, objectively, the R8 and Huracan are the same car, why should I spend (in Italy) more or less the same money to have the same car, one with Audi badge and one with Lamborghini badge?

If there's something positive to say about the R8, the Audi brand has more dealers and workshops so in case of problems, they're easier to fix.

Maybe a difference between the R8 and Huracan is in the gear change.

On the Huracan with Sport or Corsa mode, the gear change becomes more enraged and rough, you feel it, in other words

whereas on the Audi, in Comfort or Dynamic is still flat.

I press the paddles behind the steering and I don't feel the gear change at all

and by the way, if on the Huracan two big paddles, here we find two tiny plastic paddles attached to the steering

I have to say I don't like them that much by the touch.

I don't know, spending 200k € and feeling this sense of plastic whenever I change gear, I don't like it!

Not just the paddles, for example also the air vents, they're made of plastic and by the touch they don't give you the impression of being quality.

I don't understand why Audi made this beautiful cockpit with leather and carbon fibre and then lost itself on these small details,

small but annoying because if I had to spend that much money, I wouldn't like to see these plastic things!

Let's say the sound make you forgive these small defects!

Driving right now in Dynamic around the city, the suspensions aren't even that uncomfy, you can feel they're much stiffer compared to Comfort,

you can feel perfectly every kind of bumpiness and pothole

and sitting in the driver's seat of the R8 I realize this is a supercar focused on the sports driving.

The central console is very simple, we don't find an infotainment display, we don't find many buttons, everything the driver need are on the steering wheel.

We have many settings that allow us to use the infotainment that is in front of us,

we also have the selector for the driving modes, the button to open or close the exhaust valves and to start the engine.

So in front of us we have lots of informations, you just need to get used because on a first use it's a bit confusional to have lots of things in front of us.

I'm more old school, I still don't like to have a full digital display to see the speed and revs, let's say I prefer the analog hand!

The display in front of me is so complete that I didn't understood yet how it works, right now I can see the revs, speed, even the % of power and torque I'm using.

And it's a bit confusing, I prefer a traditional infotainment display where I can use the multimedia system and here I can focus more on the sports driving.

Needless to say that linking this V10 to the Quattro AWD system is a winning combo in terms of performance because

you can use completely the power of the car without any hint of powerslide, and this benefits the acceleration.

0-100kph covers in just more than 3s and this Quattro system gives you such a strong feeling of safety that allows you to push this car and go very fast!

If you're brave to push it to the max, the R8 Plus reaches 330kph!

And guess what? Also the Huracan!

The similarities between these cars are very much, and looking on the second hand market

it's impressive to see how does the R8 depreciate a lot more than the Huracan, which is a good thing if you want a second hand one.

For example, this one I'm driving is for sale at STZ Auto for 135.000€, if you consider a brand new Huracan costs 210k + options, well it's not so bad!

The R8 has also the same defects of the Huracan like the trunk.

If you think the R8 may be more practical compared to the Lambo because it gets more unnoticed, I find complicated doing long trips with this,

the trunk is ridiculous to say the least! I have my bag with the cameras and that's all, there's no room for more things!

Also the breaking power of the R8 is good, the carbon ceramic brakes are standard on the Plus and guess what? Also the Huracan!

Needless to say, after having driven both, what people say it's true, I notice many, perhaps too many similarities

but both the R8 and Huracan have their positive and negative sides, I think a second hand R8 Plus at this price, you get a complete supercar.

What to say about the R8 Plus, I've been positively impressed after this test drive.

I think it's a rather complete supercar and you can find them for good prices on the second hand market

and this one priced at 135k has just 8000km, it's like new and tested by myself!

It's the Audi R8 to be a kind of Lamborghini on a budget or it's the Lamborghini Huracan to be a pricey Audi R8?

When in doubt, I thank again STZ Auto for letting me test it,

make sure to Like the video if you enjoy it, subscribe to my YouTube if you haven't yet and as always thanks for watching, ciao!

How it's made Audi - the motor - Duration: 4:10.

- I welcome you from the Audi engine factory.

- Two million engines are produced here every year, now let's take a look how this is possible.

The world's largest motor factory is in Győr.

The annual of two million motor production means that 6 motors are made per minute on

the production line.

Besides Audi, engines are made for Volkswagen Group, Porsche, Bentleys and Lamborghini.

The engine area has a floor area of 400,000 square meters with almost the same dimensions

just like the territory of the Vatican.

There are about 15,000 parts for engine production, their move requires huge logistics, accordingly

the engine parts warehouse is about the sizeof a football field.

The Audi factory in Győr has nine types of engine groups: from four cylinders to ten cylinders

due to parameter differences motor varies up to two hundred and thirtyfive kinds.

The classic-looking engine is the 4 cylinder petrol engine, the Otto engine, the most popular version,

so we will take a look at on this.

Of course the 200 steps of he production line is difficult to present in couple minutes,

so let's take a look only at the most interesting phases.

The first step in engine manufacturing is when the engine's case, the so-called crankcase

is placed on the production line.

At this point, the engine immediately gets a custom engine number ID, so that its life

path can be traced throughout the production.

Engine components come from nearly 300 suppliers, but the main parts like the crankcase, the

crankshaft, the winch, the cylinder head and the camshaft are made at the local manufacturers.

- I'm just stopping to dispel the big misconception of women not understanding the working of engines.

- What are you doing right now?

- Im placing the plunger into the engine.

- Very good, the piston is an important part of the engine.

- How does the engine work?

-We fill the engine with a mixture of fuel and air and if this mixture is ignited over the piston,

then the released energy triggers the piston, which drives the crankshaft and thus activates the engine.

The work in the motor factory can be effective only if the the degree of automation and human resources are

proportionally ideal.

Interestingly Audi's motor factory has a degree of 85% automation and mainly uses robots.

Here on the four-cylinder engine production line besides robots lots of engineers

and about 150 skilled technicians are also working.

In terms of percentage it means 75 to 25 for the people.

Of course, this ratio cannot be determined with full accuracy because there is also working phases

where man and machine are actually completing each other's work.

The final and integral part of engine construction is the testing of engines.

In a so-called cold test they can check all the essential parameters of the engine without having

to inject fuel or burn.

- What actually matters is what is under the hood, what engine is this?

- This is a two-liter engine, more than 300 horsepower and a 4-stroke petrol engine.

- You can see that it's covered nicely.

- Nowadays the motor is covered up so that we do not touch it at home and start fixing it by ourselves?

- Obviously the complexity of such engine does not have to be fooled around with.

- The sound of this engine has to be enjoyed.
