Okay, so before you start your procedure with catheterization just want to read
through your checklist and go over all the details that you need to know. Just as a
heads up in this particular checklist, it does talk about if you see number 12 and
13 does talk about how you're going to position your patient, and drape your
patient to get your patient ready; but if you can see it from number 14 you are
going to wash your patient first. Okay? And that's why you're going to expose
your patient. However, in your particular scenario you're not going to wash your
patient first -- you're just going to go straight into catheterization.
So you'll just problem solve through there and you'd say you don't need to
unnecessarily expose your patient before you have all your equipment set up and
before you're ready to go (like your garbage and your drainage bag). First, make
sure you have volume up and set up then you expose your patient before you start.
Okay, so just as a heads up to do that. And as you can see, that's exactly
what she did: she she got her stuff ready and she put the bed in the right
position -- which is great as much as possible if your patient can be flat,
it's great to be flat. If they need to be a little bit raised (that's, once again
you just have to problem-solve that through). What your patient needs. Not
every patient can lie flat, and definitely raise it to a comfortable
height so that you're not hurting your back. So here, instead of exposing your
patient too quickly, you would just set up your bag, set up your
drainage bag and then, afterwards, expose your patient.
And you can put your garbage bag either attached to your tray table or you can
put a garbage bag on the bed. Once again, you just problem-solve if your patient
would not kick that bag it can be relatively stable but then you can put
it right there on the bed when you're setting it up.
