welcome to wacky Wednesday's, where everyone has a chance to show off their
car mods, and here's this week's winner welcome to my 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer,
I bought this 88 Grand Wagoneer on eBay in 2010, the body and the wheels were in
very good condition, no dents and the paint was a fresh single stage
application, the simulated wood trim and side paneling had been replaced, the dash
wasn't cracked but the instrument bezel was, seats and carpet were in good
shape, but some of the leather inserts on the seats were replaced with vinyl, rear
seat and cargo area were complete except for the metal strips on the tailgate and
floor, in the engine compartment some electrical wiring issues were obvious
and the a/c hoses were missing, and the air breather tube was also missing, the
smog pump was not operational and all of the options except the rear window wiper
were on the Jeep, so what kind of engine I had to decide what kind of engine to
put in the Jeep, but eventually I narrowed it down to a generation 4 5.3
liter with a 6l80 automatic transmission I found this one on eBay out of a brand
new 2010 Silverado, there had been a fire in the cab and some of the wiring was
singed, but it was completely repairable it had 6 miles on it, so what did I do to
the Jeep, the first thing was to take the engine transmission and transfer case
out of the Jeep, next I removed the original
motor mounts out of the Jeep and bolted and welded in the new motor mounts, I
needed to patch up this big hole in the firewall, I fabricated this piece of
sheet metal and I riveted it in place, makes a nice backdrop for the dual battery
system, so I got rid of the old battery tray and the old AC mess that used to
run across the fender well, so all of the old holes were weld it up and the dents
were bonded in, on the driver's side I got rid of the old electrical stuff, that
was under the hood and then under the dash as well, I put headers on the new
engine so we dropped it into the Jeep it was ready to go, but I had to build a
new exhaust system using all three of those catalytic converters that came
with it, and I had to relocate some of the O2 sensor ports, so I used heat tape and
heat paint fit right in, I modified the fender well to accept a new battery tray,
I used bondo on the firewall and the battery tray fit right in,
next I started on the air box for the K&N system, I fabricated this piece of
sheet metal, then I had to cut this part of the fender well out to accept the new
box, left a pretty big hole in the fender well it's kind of scary, next I replaced
all the wiring under the hood and I installed this grounding block all
grounds went to a common ground I also replaced all the wiring under the
dash and installed the new air conditioning condenser core as well as a
new radiator and I mounted the new oil cooler and transmission cooler, then I
mounted this electric fan which is controlled by the ECU, we mounted new
springs and shocks under the Jeep there was no rust on this Jeep at all so the
job went fairly fast, I also rebuilt both of the front hubs, new bearings, new
rotors and new brake pads as well, i fabricated a larger heat shield that was
going to go between the new catalytic converters and the new transmission, I
was lucky to find a brand new transfer case an MP 229 just like the one that I
had taken out, a former Jeep dealer had it in his garage, I had new Drive shafts
built as the rear had to be shortened and the front had to be lengthened, and I
replaced all of the u-joints while we were doing this, later on I replaced
both the rear axles due to a vibration and I upgraded the brake shoes, so what's
under the hood everything is fully functional including
all of the emissions systems, so here's the new cold air box
it keeps the filter nice and clean here are the two batteries with a battery
isolator located between them, the wiring is a little messy but I'm working on it,
and the engine sits in there nice and straight, the fan is held in by some
brackets that I made, and this is what my electric mess looks like, but it's proven
to be very reliable on these roads that I live on up here in Northern Virginia, so
what does the interior look like, so I get rid of all the red color, I redid all
the door panels and all of the arm rests replaced all of the simulated wood trim
on the inside, covered the steering wheel in leather as well as the seats and
that center console is from a Ford van and I installed this digital dash that
runs off an obd2, this is the digital heater control with the two controls for
the heated front seats, I installed this large screen radio that also has a lot
of entertainment capabilities, and I have the ECM and the TCM reprogrammed
to accept his tap up tap down shifter and of course it also has a backup
camera capability which comes in handy new mats, new seat belts, and USB charging
stations, front and rear and heated seats in the back too, the back seat folds up and
it's held in place by this elastic band that's completely sound proofed in the
roof and on the floor, and this is the rear passenger control for the heated
seats and the USB charging station, the yellow battery runs this DC converter ,and the
rear seat belts I put in shoulder harnesses which this Jeep did not have
previously, Scotty thanks again for allowing me to feature this Jeep I
really have a lot of fun with it, it's great to drive, thanks for watching,
well that was this week's video and to have your car mod shown on my channel
here check this out, so if you never want to miss another one
of my new car repair videos, remember to ring that Bell!

Jeep Wrangler ZRoadz 50" Double Row Light Bar (1987-2018 YJ, TJ, JK & JL) Review & Install - Duration: 9:16.
Ryan: The ZRoadz 50 Inch Straight Double Row LED Light Bar in the spot and flood combination
is for those of you that have a 1987 all the way up through the most current model year
Wrangler that are looking for a ton of auxiliary lighting.
This is going to provide a lot of additional light output that you wouldn't get from just
your headlights or a lot of the other smaller auxiliary lights that you can put on your
vehicle.
This is gonna be a pretty easy light bar to install.
I'd imagine most of you are going to use a 50-inch LED light bar that will put this bar
above the windshield of your jeep.
That's really the only spot to put a bar that is this large.
And you're going to have to purchase that separately.
But if you do buy a mount like that, there's not going to be any drilling to do with this
installation.
However, you are going to have to do a little bit of wiring to get this powered up.
So, I'm gonna go with a 2 out of 3 wrenches for this installation, and we'll show you
how to get that done in just a second.
So when you're talking about auxiliary lighting, when you're talking about a 50-inch LED light
bar like this, you're going to find options that are all over the spectrum as far as both
quality and price.
So you can find your bargain basement priced light bars that are going to be $100 for one
of these plus a couple of cubes, all your mounting, all of your wiring, and you're not
going to get a lot of quality there.
On the flip side of that, you can find just a 50-inch LED light bar similar to this one
in looks that's going to cost twice as much.
And you are going to get some more quality out of those premium brands.
So, where you're going to fall in that spectrum really comes down to what you're looking for.
If you like the look of a 50-inch light bar on your Jeep but you're not going to be using
it all that often, you can probably get away with something a little bit less expensive.
This is going to be a little bit more of a balance of quality and price.
So not the $1,000 light bar, but also more quality than the $100 light bar.
So, somewhere in that area.
This is going to be an extruded aluminum housing like you're going to find with most of the
other light bars, a nice powder coat finish on it, this is going to have a polycarbonate
lens.
The double row design is something that you'll find with a lot of other options as well.
So this is going to have a total of 100 CREE LEDs.
CREE is important because it means that the actual chip, the diode itself inside of this
is going to be something that is quality.
So it's not going to burn out on its own very quickly.
But sometimes, with a light bar like this, if the rest of the construction isn't up to
snuff, you kinda end up with some moisture behind the lens, and that can burn out your
diode a little bit quicker.
Again, with this, I think you are getting a good balance of quality and price, so I
don't suspect that that would be too much of an issue for you.
From this light bar, you're going to be producing right around 23,000 lumens, which is a ton
of light.
This is not going to be a bar you're going to be able to be using on the road when there's
oncoming traffic.
This is going to be for use on those dark back roads, when there's nobody coming towards
you, if you need a little bit more light, or of course, on the trail.
With that being said, you are going to get two different beam patterns from this same
light bar.
And again, that's pretty common, you'll see that with a lot of these.
So in the center here, you'll have a clear optic, a clear reflector, and that's going
to produce a spot beam.
That's gonna throw light very far down the trail in front of you.
And on the outside here, you have a little bit more of a crinkle on the reflector behind
your diode, and that's going to give you a little bit more of a scattered light.
That's going to be more of your flood beam.
And that's gonna light up the gutters to either side of the jeep.
So it really does give you a nice combination of lighting there.
Now we talked about the wiring that's necessary with this a little bit.
One thing that I do like about this that you're not gonna find on a lot of the less expensive
light bars out there is that this comes with a weather-tight connector here.
A lot of the other ones will just have this pigtail right on the end of the cord here,
no connector.
So you'll have to add your own.
A lot of the real premium brands will actually come with a full wiring harness.
That's going to have a fuse, a relay, and a switch.
This does not come with that.
So again, that just kinda supports that in the middle of quality and of price.
You're not at the premium but you're also not at the least expensive, most basic.
Again, this is something that I really do like.
We talked a little bit now about price and quality.
This is going to come in at right around at that $415 mark.
And again, it is really right in the middle as far as price goes, but I do think you're
going to get something pretty quality.
If you're somebody who's out there every single weekend, you're wheeling at night, you need
a ton of light, you want something that's going to throw light down the trail a little
bit further than this one will, that's gonna throw a few more lumens than this one will.
We do have those options available, but they are gonna be more expensive.
And as I mentioned before, if you're just looking for a light that's gonna make your
jeep look cool, and there's nothing wrong with that, you can probably get away with
something that's even less expensive than this one is.
So, we've said before, you're going to mount this on one of those bolt-on mounts.
Let me show you exactly how to get this thing bolted up to your jeep.
Tony: Tools used for this installation are as follows.
A pair of wire strippers and crimpers, the Allen key supplied in the kit.
Also, what you're gonna need is a toggle switch, some butt connectors, and some wire.
All right, now let's begin the installation of our new light bar.
And with the help of our friend Ryan here, we're gonna go ahead and get it installed.
These are a little long and cumbersome, and once your brackets are in place, you're definitely
gonna need the help of a friend to lift them into place.
Now, we're gonna use the tools that comes in the kit.
It comes with about four Allen keys for the whole kit.
This one, we're gonna use the larger one that comes in for the two Allen head bolts that
come with it.
Let's go ahead and get it installed.
All right, now that your light bar is installed, it's snugged down, well, we gotta wire it
in, so well, you know, you can turn it on.
It's not there just for show.
Now, I'm gonna give you a quick run through on a little bit of wiring.
Now, you can use a toggle switch of your choice, or you can go ahead and get yourself a switch
panel with multiple toggle switches in it made for your Jeep.
That choice is really up to you.
I'm gonna just use a small toggle switch I have on hand, just to show you how this is
done.
Now, as you can see, on the side of our light bar, I already have a couple connectors on
there.
I quickly put those on just to get it out of the way.
But I'm gonna show you how it's done if you've never actually done this before.
You're gonna get yourself a really good set of wire strippers.
Now you can see, multiple holes on one end of them.
These are for actually stripping the casing off your wire.
And I don't advise using just a regular pair of snips or a pair of scissors or a razor
blade or the like.
That could actually cause damage to your wiring, or you could hurt yourself.
You don't really wanna do that either.
So you can go ahead, choose the hole that fits your wiring.
Usually, they are marked for the different gauge of wiring.
Very small, so really can't show you on camera, but on one side, you'll see an array of numbers.
That would go right along with the size of your wire.
We'll go ahead.
Strip the wire back a little bit.
Now you don't wanna go too far with it.
You want just enough to fit inside your butt connector.
That's if you're using a butt connector.
That's what we're gonna use today, so that's what I'm gonna show you.
You can also solder all this together.
Solder's not a bad choice.
It's a little bit more permanent, but you're gonna wanna make sure you use like a heat
shrink tube to keep it more weather safe.
Let's go ahead, slide your wire into your butt connector.
And with the crimping side of your tool, go ahead and crimp them together.
Once you've done that, just go ahead, give them a little tug to make sure they're nice
and tight.
Now to make this more weather sound, you can wrap this in a little black electrical tape
or even also get that same shrink wrap that I was telling you about earlier and shrink
that over it.
Now, I put that lead on our positive side.
Now, that's gonna go to the positive side of your battery.
I like to put my switches on my negative side.
This way, you're not running too much power through your switch.
That doesn't become your weak point.
Now, I'm gonna take my toggle switch, and I already have one butt connector on that
side.
We'll plug that in there.
I'm gonna take my other piece of wire to go to my common ground, or you can ground it
right to your battery, and put that on the other side of my toggle switch.
Now, you wanna make sure once it's all wired up that all your wire is ran, hidden, tucked
away safely where it's not gonna pinched, cut, burned, anything where your power wire
mostly, will not touch any other metal and ground itself out, because that could cause
a short in the system.
You could burn out your brand new light, or even worse, you can burn up your vehicle.
Nobody wants to see that happen.
Now, once you got these attached to your battery, click your light on and see how it looks.
All right, now, everything is mounted, it's wired up, our switch is in a place where we
like it.
Get out there on the trails and light up the night.
Remember, these are off-road use only.

World News - Will Young BLASTS The Grand Tour's 'homophobic' Jeep segment - Duration: 7:36.
Will Young has slammed the hosts of The Grand Tour, as well as the show's broadcaster Amazon Prime, for a 'homophobic' segment in which a Jeep Wrangler was test-driven
The three presenters - Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May - appear on the current season of the motoring show in the bizarre clip in which they claim driving a Jeep means you should wear 'ventilated chaps', 'moisturise' and play 'It's Raining Men' whilst in the car
Pop star Young - who is gay - was evidently watching the third episode of the new season when he stumbled across the segment, taking to Twitter to communicate his outrage
The former Pop Idol winner, 40, branded the trio of men 'f**king pathetic and actually homophobic' as well as well as 'repulsive' and 'obtuse, bigoted immature babies'
In a six-tweet rant, Young typed: '1. I love cars always have always will. 2. I loved going on top gear 3
Excited about watching new Top gear and I'm afraid 3 heterosexual men SO uncomfortable with their sexuality that they reference in some lame way a Wrangler Jeep being a Gay mans car Share this article Share 587 shares '
and then Hammond and May's 'quips' to Clarkson wearing chaps , a pink shirt , he should get some moisturiser
It's f**king pathetic and actually homophobic . And screw them and the show and Amazon (who by the way is a wonderful organisation I hope to forge a relationship
'. relationship with through lgbt content ) for putting this shaming archaic trype out
@amazonprimenow it's insulting and they can't rest on laurels of 'oh we are just politically incorrect' It's sad and shaming , bigoted and for f**ks sake grow up
How dare they stereotype 'Gay men . I DON'T drive a Wrangler Jeep. I DON'T wear pink shirts
I DON'T wear a**eless chaps. You can be honest and funny without this ridiculous 'lad' ooh being gay and let's laugh about it mentality
It's repulsive and how DARE you do it and put it out @PrimeVideo 'Hang on they are doing more HYSTERICAL things
Pink roof now on Clarkson's Jeep AND they are playing 'it's raining men' it's SO funny I can't contain myself
I mean being gay is just SO funny for those type of straight men @PrimeVideo 'And you know what really f**ks me off is this is a DECISION by the producers
Let's make one of the narratives the 'gay Jeep' how DARE you you obtuse , bigoted immature babies of men [sic]
'He then tagged a number of LGBT+ news outlets. MailOnline has approached Amazon Prime and May, Clarkson and Hammond for comment
The episode is a Colombia Special and sees Clarkson branding the 4X4 an 'LGB-Jeep'
The presenter - who was sacked from the BBC's Top Gear three years ago when he reportedly punched a producer for not offering him steak for his dinner - also jokes that LGBT stands for, 'lesbian, bacon, transgender'
In the irreverent scenes, Clarkson gets behind the wheel of the Jeep, to which Hammond says: 'I'm proud of you
That's a hard thing to do and you've done it. You're going to be so much happier
' This remark is, on it's own, somewhat odd, but he then elaborates, saying: 'You should have gone the whole hog
maybe some nice chaps, suede but ventilated at the back. And that [pink] shirt, you've picked up that colour - have you been getting advice?' Hammond was the centre of a similar anti-gay furor in 2016 when he made a statement suggesting that only homosexuals eat ice-cream
While sat in a brand new Rolls-Royce, Clarkson declared that eating a chocolate Magnum ice-cream would not be tolerated inside the car
Hammond was then sure to remind viewers of his sexuality, by assuring Clarkson that there would be no ice-cream eating from him - anywhere
'It's all right, I don't eat ice-cream. It's something to do with being straight. Ice-cream is a bit
y'know,' he said.Clarkson pressed this, asking: 'You're saying ice-cream is a bit
You're saying all children are homosexual?'Hammond replied: 'No, but. There's nothing wrong with it, but a grown man eating an ice-cream, you know, it's a bit
It's that way rather than that way.'This was then followed by a gag about a 99 flake and the 69 position
Hammond later told The Times: 'I entirely reject any criticism of me being anti-gay
That's just not the case. The very last thing I am is in any way anti-gay. And I said I believe that love is love
'He added: 'There are people who are genuinely homophobic and they would disagree with my view that love is love and people are who they are
'Hammond also remarked once that he didn't understand why LGBT+ people 'feel the need' to come out of the closet anymore, for which he also received criticism
