It may have arrived a bit late to the electric crossover party, with the E-Tron SUV that was launched earlier this year, but Audi's ventures into the zero-emission territory have only just begun

The German automaker is planning yet another battery-electric crossover, according to Autocar, which will be a tad larger than the Q2 and smaller than the Q3

It's expected to be previewed by a concept sometime next year, while the production version is allegedly due in 2020

And unlike the E-Tron, which is underpinned by the MLB platform, the upcoming model will be built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB architecture

This will be used by numerous electric vehicles made by the automotive giant and is modular enough to accommodate different-sized models

This means that Audi's rumored electric compact crossover will be priced competitively, as production costs will be kept as low as possible

The British publication estimates that it should start at around £30,000 (equal to ~$37,800/€33,400) when it goes on sale in the United Kingdom, probably in 2021

While nobody outside the car firm knows anything about the electric powertrain, its design will be inspired by the E-Tron GT, according to the brand's design chief, March Lichte
