I've never seen the ocean before

If I close my eyes and imagine

it looks calm

and beautiful

Hopefully i'll get to see it one day

Most of my childhood memories are of being in the sea

just kind of jumping around

it washes away all your anxieties and worries

The longer I spent working in the city

you very quickly become disconnected from the bigger picture

We're all part of this global ecosystem

and the ocean's the beginning of it and the end of it

and we need to protect that

I had to pass that on to these children i'd been teaching

You want to make a big difference in children's lives

and I found myself standing at the front of the classroom

preaching really

and trying to be passionate about plastics in the ocean

and how you must be sustainable

there was, there was nothing there

so the question was asked

hands up if you haven't seen the sea

if you've never seen it, in real life

these children weren't going to want to

truly protect something

without

without loving it

that was when it dawned on me

the only way to do that is to get them in it

to give them the opportunity to

connect with it

it started to become the reason I was getting up in the morning

this experience

will change that boy

will change that girl

I knew it would

We'll learn together

You close your eyes, hold your breath and go under water

Lots of them had not seen a natural body of water

Looking out at

my childhood coastline

with these children i've been teaching for the last six years

children who'd never seen the sea

it kind of hits your soul, doesn't it

You a little bit nervous?

Yeah

OK, nothing to worry about

Once we get in the ocean

you'll feel different

it'll change your life

Just all of them

every single one of them

couldn't believe

they were here

I had no idea

I had no idea

how powerful it was going to be

never seen anything like it

I thought lots of people care about the ocean

but maybe

maybe they don't

What scares me is that it IS too late

Um, that, that's, y'know

that it is um

it's too far gone

But there is hope

if we change

the behaviour of future generations

In the ocean we found plastic bottles

plastic bags

all kind of stuff that would kill fish

and turtles

If they can be in charge of passing on the message

You're going to be guardians

You're going to be protected

you're going to make a difference

and we reach

as many

disengaged

disconnected

human beings

i'm not stopping

it's going now, it's rolling
