American Volvo 670 truck
Hi! Today I say hello from Montreal
It's my third attempt to record this video
I have already recorded a great beginning but I forgot to turn on my camera
So hello from Monreal, I'm on a pause now
In todays video I'm gonna show you my Volvo
but more from the technical side
And I'm gonna tell you about the differences between the European and the American version
So I invite you to subscribe my channel
Because after this video I will share one more about this truck
So I invite you to subscribe
So you don't miss the next episode
You just need to click on my channel's logo in the corner
And click on 'subscribe'
Ok, so we're gonna start...
...from the beginnig
So first thing I will tell you is...
This truck was made in 2014
with a Volvo engine
Some drivers often argue that it's not Volvo but Cummins engine
But as you can see, it's written here
Engine model D13
425 horsepower
What is very interesting in this truck is that it is super light
It weighs 8tons and 36kg or 56kg (I can't remember now) accodring to the registration document
But it's really light, especially with the huge cabin
And it has two axles
and weighs only 8tons
So when I saw it, I asked Rafał if I really read it well
That maybe it meant something else
But it really is so light
So now we're gonna raise the hood
I wanted to show you how to raise the hood but I forgot to open it
So first you need to lay the pipes
Then you have something like that
You just need to pull it like that
I have already told you what kind of engine it is
Maybe you want to take a look
I don't know what else I could tell you because to be honest I'm not a mechanician at all
but maybe some of you are interested in how it looks
So I'll show it to you
For me, the most interesting thing here is
is the suspension, take a look
Can you see any cushions here?
Can anyone see the cushions?
That's right, there are no cushions
It's really interesting thing for me
It surprised me at the beginning
I don't know if you will hear me because of the wind
At the beginnig I was surprised
when I saw that this Volvo had no cushions
But as I see, most of the trucks here have no cushions in the front
In European trucks it sure depends on the vershion that the company's owner orders
But still, most of trucks in Europe has cusions both in the front and in the back
here there's not the case and it was surprising for me
because the driving is very tough, especially in a city like Montreal where the roads are full of holes
In the short, city trucks it's quite comfortable
On route it's not bad unless there are no holes in the road
Maybe that's because the trucks here are much faster
Or maybe...
My truck is locked at 104kmph
65mph
Here in Canada the speed limit for trucks is 100kmph
In many states in the USA it's 65mph
So I think that's why the trucks are locked like that
So mine can drive up to 104kmph
the other side...
back to the subject
maybe that's the question of trucks that are much faster
so they need a harder suspension
or maybe they just like their own solutions
I don't know, why, I just show you how it looks like
Maybe some of you, American drivers can explain it to me
En Europe sometimes you can see trucks without cushions in the front
But still, most of themp have it
and it's softer
So this is how it looks like
If I have already opened the hood
I will refill the windshield washer fluid, this is where you refill
What I like here
Is that you can pour 7 liters of the windshield washer fluid in here
So, when it's sold in a container of 3,75l
You can pour almost two of them
So it's nice because I don't have to refill it often, especially in the winter
So when I poured the fluid for the last time
I just entered one container of 3,75l and this is what left in the second one
I have to go to the warehouse to take another one
I just have some remnants
Ok, we move further
Another thing that I'm sure you'll be interested in
Are the batteries
I have to close the door
Ok, it's open
There are some rubbers like in Scania
And look what we have here: we have the batteries
There are air tanks too of course
here are the batteries
and there are four of them
In Europe we have two big batteries which are connected in series
because the instalation in European trucks
are the 24-volt ones
and here there's 12-volt installation
so here as you can see
we have the batteries
so, four batteries
with smaller capacity
and connected in parallel
so this is a curiosity
here is an AdBlue tank
Here it's called DEF - Diesel Exhaust Fluid
I guess many of you know the Thygerrr's 'regeneration' story
The European Volvo trucks also need regeneration
But it's always done while driving
And the American ones need to stop to do it
Ok, we move further
Here we have fuel tanks
Mines are about 200 gallons
200 gallons is almost 800 liters
Here we also have some padlocks, there's nothing special in it
when you look at it
I'll put the camera here so the wind doesn't blow so much
It may seem that they're not special at all
but you can notice that first
the air one, for brakes
it's the same as in Poland
but now, they're 'dead' as I would say
So you can just install it easily with one hand
How could I say it... There's no air in it
I turn the air on in the tractor
In European version there are some springs
and you install it on the padlock from the trailer
the air is blowed automatically
and it's harder to install
You just have to get used to it
When you do, there's no problem
but at the beginning, you may not to know how to do it
So here, it is defenitely easier to install
because, as I said, 'there's no air in it'
so you put it on easily
with one hand, without a problem
and then you turn the air on in the tractor
I'll show it to you when we're in the cabin
And notice that there is only one electric wire
look how many pins does it have
As I counted before, there are 7 pins
One, two, thre, four, five, six, seven... yeah, seven pins
And in European trucks we have two electric wires
and each has 7 or 8 pins
and separately, the ABS wire
So...
This is also because the trucks here have only the red light in the back
And have only one light for the registration plate
So the turn signals
stop lights and position lights and that's all
so one wire is enough
The ABS also is the basic one, there's no EBS or other systems
So it's all very simple and fits in just one plug
What I like very much here in Canada
in our company, trailers have a thing like that
I have seen it in one of Rafał's videos, he called it 'cat eyes', I don't know how it's called actually
But it's a device that will show me when the tire pressue will lower
No matter in which one, because as you can see, it is also connected with the other tire
So if the pressure in one of the tires starts to lower
The yellow thing will open
It is very useful because sometimes you get up in the morning
and you see 'I guess I have a flat tire'
but sometimes it's just an illusion
because the temperature changes etc.
So it helps a lot
It's a great thing
This also is an intersting thing that surprised me at the beginning
Look, these are the only lights in the tractor
So you can actually see nothing on the sides
There are no lights on the sides
It was weird for me
So these are the position lights, turn signals and one reversing light and that's all
Turn signals are just red
Is there anything more?
I have some working lights added
I think the saddles are the same
You can move it here, I have never done it
even though there is a button for it in the inside
but I have never needed it
But apparently sometimes there is a need to do it
That's all, we'll go inside
It's cold
It's really cold
Now I have to record quickly
because it's cold in here too
because there's no webasto in this truck
It is not equipped with a parking heater
And most of the trucks here don't have it
And it's really weird for me
But I have already got used to it, an to sleep with the engine on
Don't ask me why
Because I don't know why
Maybe it's profitable for them
Maybe it's profitable to keep the engines on
all night long in the winter
I try explain it to myself, maybe the frosts here are so high
that when it's for example -20°C or -30°C, you wouldn't turn the engine off anyway
And you keep it turned on so the fuel doesn't get thick
if it's not a good quality fuel
But there are still transitional periods
When it's 0°C, 5°C or even 10°C
when webasto would be useful
But well, this is how it looks here
Of course you can order a truck with webasto, the new ones coming here have it already
But I don't have it
I can take it off I guess
or maybe I'll leave it
So here are the...
How could I say it...
Normally I would say the handbrake
Actually, it is even called the parking brake
But for me it's more like some kind of valve
and this is because
You have to push it strongly to release it
and when you apply it, you have to pull it strongly as well
it's applied at the moment
it's the tractor's parking brake
so when I want to release it and move, I just need to push it
and I can go
when I don't have a trailer
I can go
I'll take it off, it looks stupid
I feel weird
So, when I only have the tractor, I push it and I can go
And when I have a trailer, I push it too
and release the tractor's brake
And I push this button here
this one
Now I can't push it, it would just blow the air
this is for the trailer and I have to push it
and this is when the air goes to the trailer
and this is when I can move
So when I want to move with a trailer, I have to push both buttons
Now I don't want to push because I don't have a trailer
So I push this one
And when I stop, I pull this one and the second one applies automatically
So it is completely different than in European trucks
And some trucks also have a thing like that
Here is the trailer's brake
I don't have a trailer
but here all drivers use it
when you connect the trailer, you check if the saddle is locked well
you check it on the saddle of course
If it's closed
but it is good to check it here as well
what else...
Another thing which was made differently than in the European Volvo
or generally in European trucks
is the suspension
In European trucks we usually have just one level of driving
Volvo has three driving levels
the normal one
the low one and the high one
you just press an up or down button
and stay at the chosen level
And then, the truck doesn't give you signals that it's not well leveled
In addition, you have a remore so you can conrol it
You can cantrol the back of the tractor
or, if you have cushions in the front, you can control the front too
So you can balance the tractor as you want
It's useful when you have a sloping ramp for example
Or when you drive upwards wit a mega trailer
On the low wheels ina tractor, it's very useful
It can help you to avoid breaking your bumper for example
When you don't have it and you have a low tractor
and you have the high mega trailer
You can sometimes damage the plates
or the plastic parts in the front
Here I don't have any options, there's just the 'normal' one
and I can let off the air
So I can't go up or dow, there only are two options
The driving level and letting the air off the back cushions
So now when I stand a little bit at a slant
I let the air off
So I don't fall
It's done the same way in the trailer
You leave the air in or let it off completely
you can't adjust it
to lift the trailer more or less
but you choose between all or nothing
Ok, and now I'm gonna show you
I'm gonna prove you
that the whole installation
is the 12-volt one
we'll open it
I don't have a screwdriver
I know you're gonna laugh
Even I feel weird about it
I feel weird that I don't have a hammer or a screwdriver here
no pliers etc.
I have nothing
You know, after years of driving with oversize loads
when I always had my own toolbox from my company
because there were always something to do
the basic service things
There is always something to do in the open trailers
especially in winter
something can damage and need a little repair
and here I have nothing
I think I can already take it off
So we'll remove it
Ok, it's done
Look at it
Can you see it? On the transmitters? I'll show it wit my finger but if you look closer
You'll see 12V
There's not much of the fuses
comparing to European trucks
So this is how it looks like
Now I have to replace it
I have to put it here...
I can't close it
I don't have an access to it
It will stay like that
I was recorging in the cabin so much that I have recorded nothing
So I will draw it one more time
So in European trucks it's like that
One battery
the second one
and they're connected like that
Here's 12V
and all that makes 24V
because in serial connection the voltage sums up
Here in the American trucks it looks like that
12V
or not
It's to small
second one
third one
fourth one
and they are connected in parallel
all the 'minus' together
they're connected here
and all the 'plus' here
Thanks to that we still have 12V installation
because when you connect the batteries in parallel
the voltage remains unchanged
So this is the difference. These batteries are smaller so they also have lower capacity
the European ones are bigger
So this is how it looks like, in brief
And at the end of this video I would like to tell you one thing that I forgot to mention in the previous one
I mean the light
I miss the light in this Volvo
there's just one light
By the roof
It lightens only this part of the cabin
It doesn't reach here at all
So if I need to reach something from here for example
It's too dark
Here are some additional lights
this one doesn't even work,
So I miss a little bit of light in the 'working' part of the cabin
because it's too dark
These lights aren't enough
It should be some more light, not for the sleeper part
but somewhere here
Otherwise, it's nice to drive
The difference that surprised me the most is the suspension
the electric installation
People often don't believe me
That there is the 12V electric installation here
that's why I opened it
and showed you the fuses so noone can say I'm wrong
I will show you one more thing
As you can see, 12,4V
It shows me a warning that there's no air
Ok, time for me to warm up
It's very cold in here
So I hope you like this video
and that you have learned something new
about this truck
and abour American Trucks in general
If you know answers for some questions I have asked
About the webasto, the suspension
Or 12V power
Let me know,
because I'm a new driver here and I don't understand everything
So I'm waiting for your comments
I invite you to subscribe my channel
Because when I see that you subsribe, I know that you like my videos and it makes me happy
and it motivates me to record even more videos
So if you want to see more and more video, just subscribe
