we've got an M2 LCI
with M performance exhaust
does M get any better?
I don't think so
but for us reason to
record a review for AutoTopNL
about the M Performance exhaust
and how cool it is
and about the LCI part
and sort of an update
on how after the introduction of the M2
we look at it now
and how it holds up
so here we go!
the M2 has received a lot of praise
and it handles incredibly well
I have driven a few of them
on the road
at the autobahn
on the track
and especially on track
it really distinguishes itself
from the competition
and other M cars
because it's so much fun
the car dances around you
there were some points of criticism
it didn't really look that fresh anymore
it was almost at the end of the 2-series
of the first generation
so it had the old infotainment system
the older light units
and they've fixed that now
there are new tail lights
new head lights
a new infotainment system
and a new instrument cluster
so quite a few improvements
and those updates
ensure a more luxurious and modern feel
it's quite an expensive car of course
and the pre-facelift models
didn't have that feeling of luxury
they've worked on that
the LCI really improves on that front
the drivetrain then
370HP from a 3.0 Turbo
straight six of course traditionally
it does lag behind the competition there
an A45 AMG has 381 HP now
and an RS3 is available with 400 HP
there are rumors of a CS version though
a competition sport
and I think they'll go to 390 or 400 HP
it seems they're changing the engine
the engine of the M3
this is the N55 straight six
and the M3 has the S55 engine
with some special parts
and onwards to the party piece of today
this great little thing
the remote of the M Performance exhaust
if I press this twice
the titanium valves open
and it skips the last part of the silencer
producing great sounds
it's not as shamelessly loud
as an M3
the bangs are not that loud
but that's because this engine
is a bit softer when it comes to sound
a bit less wild
but it does improve the experience
the sound really is next level
compared to stock
the looks do so as well
because you have that crammed rear
and it gets better with those carbon tailpipes
and they're larger in diameter as well
so a must-have for every M2 owner
and the benefit compared to after market
is exactly that it's not after market
you're keeping OEM BMW Parts
and it sounds as good as after market
the Life Cycle Impuls for the M2
is an update it could've used
right from the start
what are other points of improvement?
well, the engine could be more powerful
BMW have to get to 400 HP
to keep up with the competition
or, even better, rule them
because looking at driving dynamics
the M2 is still superior
it's just the performance part
why the M2 CS has to get here soon
