Seventies are back
even in motorcycles world
and this is Suzuki SV650X
seen the first time at EICMA in Milan,
now it's time to test it live
and to also discover a pleasant surprise
SV650X-TER
the name recalls the hipster world
this is a Limited Edition for the italian market
and will be available at a slightly higher price
In a moment I'll explain you everything:
performances of the SV650X and specs of this Limited Edition
Do you remember the SV650? Well, here the only difference is the clip-on handlebars
you could thing that is a minor difference
actually two different pieces can make a big difference on a bike
Here, for example, the triangulation of the saddle handlebar pedals changes
same frame, new retro-style wind screen...et voilà
here is a café racer with the right balance between sporty driving and ease.
easy because it remains the same
the twin-cylinder with 76 hp and 64 Nm of torque has fans around the world
we know it well: generous in the city and in tight corners, smooth when you accelerate
the engine stretches only on the highway:
not because it lacks on speed, but rather because it revs very high and consumption increases
Cafè racer, however, does not mean drawing completely from the past.
SV650X is up to date: Easy Start technology starts the engine on the fly with a quick press of the button
and Low RPM Assist prevents accidental shutdown and saves beginners from being unbalanced without the support of the engine.
Given the presence, on this channel, of the review of the SV650, in this video I'll talk about the main differences
SV650X is a sporty bike that doesn't stress the body, thanks to the new triangulation
no wrist fatigue and a more upright driving position
maneuverability in the city slightly decreases but remains good in absolute value in the segment
so to speak, it is enormously easier than the R nineT and still steers in a handkerchief
Soft and well padded saddle, despite its narrowest shape
and a fascinating windscreen that protects from turbulence as much as possible from its dimensions: meaning...zero
However you can easily travel on the highway
and slip-on handlebars gives riders a good feeling when bending
you have fun, and a lot, even with "only" 76 hp
On the other hand, torque is always available, even among the uphill curves, and pushes well the 198 kilos of this model
Among the new features of this SV is the adjustable fork in preload as the rear
other new features: aesthetic details, air intakes in the wind screen, graphics and the increased tank, now 14.5 liters
As in SV650, you can find digital dashboard and brakes with adjustable knob and 290 mm discs with ABS
There are only two pistons but all in all the braking is good
you suffer only when the system is overheated
and there is the usual soft attack that benefits beginners but that, as you know by now, I don't like.
The gear change is precise and fast enough, except when you push it to the limit
the chassis is stable on the highway and the frame too, jumping slightly only when bending on a rough surface
Defects? If you consider the price you can not even complain that it is an old project: it is still valid
you buy the SV for the chassis for its engine
certainly not for the telescopic fork which is old but actually set to give the best considering its technology
Some aesthetic details are not the best
but SV650X-TER improves this aspect with new side mirrors, LED turn signals and custom exhaust
the only problem is side mirrors visibility:
it took me a lot to set them in an acceptable position which, however, was not ideal
my advice? SV650X-TER costs a little more than SV650
but with only 400€ more
you get a new exhaust by Fresco in perfect "cafè racer style"
and you get new LED turning signals: smaller, cuter
and less bulkier than the original ones
which are the sames as in the nineties
from the saddle of this SV650X-TER
