hello and welcome to another episode of the ZigWheels Zig talk and this time
around we're talking about Honda now they've been playing a little hard to
get in terms of the information they are trying to disseminate right now but we
poked a little rod a little and got some exclusive information out of them
beginning with what is going to be the first of many showstoppers the all-new
Amaze right so like you said it is going to be an all-new Amaze it's not a
facelift basics first now we're not sure what platform is going to be based on if
it continues to be on the Brio's platform or if it moves to be an
adaptation of the Jazz's bigger platform possibly but what we can tell
you is that because it wants to play in that sub 4 meter space it will need to
play by the rules which means petrol engine no larger than 1.2 diesel engine
no larger than 1.5 litres which means it should carry over the same set of
engines but all of that is for later the big highlight at the Auto Expo will be
the design and what are you expecting a more chiseled Amaze what's what's your
expectation well realistically speaking what we will be looking at is a
pre-production prototype possibly so it'll give us a taster of what Honda
wants to do with the design what we can say is what they should do is possibly
give the Amaze amore distinctive look like you said a more chiseled design
possibly make it look more like the City and less like the Brio itself because
let's face it cars that have been on that platform the Brio the Amaze the BRV
the Mobilio haven't really done particularly well so it needs to get a
kind of distinctive for the want of a better word a new identity altogether so
maybe they'll have to add on more features as well apart from the design
so projector headlights daytime running LEDs LED tail light also perhaps and on
the inside not so sure if the car at the expo will have a proper look at the
interior it might be blacked out kind of like the Figo concept that we had seen
in 2014 but they might show some images out and what we expect is for Honda to
continue on with the trade set up they become popular for so good utilization
of captain space practicality all-round and maybe really include the disappeared
infotainment system as well like I have in the WRV maybe throw in a sunroof
if if if they throw in the sunroof nothing like it now this there's going
to be a big reason all there is a big hole in the roof but it'll be a big
selling point for them like it has been for the WRV it has been for the WRV
and of course a sunroof sells in India and if they do it and Honda if you
haven't finalized the feature list take the clock that one so yeah so the
sunroof is going to be if it is it's going to be a big drop but moving on
from sort of the Honda's look at the future for the Amaze maybe to a
car that kind of defined Honda's look at the future we imagine right that that
was the Civic and when when it came in and you know this really nice low slung
sedan and everyone instantly those wipers that went like that
yeah the super cool and everyone fell in love instantly now over the years of
course sales fizzled out the segment itself is kind of dying so they have some
arguments against the introduction of the Civic because the space itself it
accounts for maybe a thousand or so units units per month so that's not a
lot but the way you look at it from Honda's perspective is they have got so
many thousands of City customers being added month after month and they need
something to upgrade to they won't necessarily want to move to an SUV so
they'd want a sedan to move to and the Civic name of course has a lot of brand
pull when you put it when you put into account the fact that the Accord is at
52 lakhs yeah exactly you can't make that Bombay so you can't make a jump
from a 17 lakh rupee car to a 50 maybe not the natural progression it is
possible but maybe not the natural progression of change so yeah the Civic
it is a very interesting car and I can say this because I I sampled it in
Bhutan last time last year when yeah and just like the old one it looks really
really futuristic it's got that spunk in its design and you know red colour in in
red so we are going to request our editor to put in some pictures of the red
Civic here and this might be the RS but in all of that it is a handsome-looking
sedan and even on the inside it still continues with the futuristic theme it
is spotty it's all black and even even though it is all black Honda's man
maximum machine minimum is still at play and so about the engine options then um
so all right so engine options globally there are - there's a 1.8 liter
naturally aspirated petrol and there's a 1.5 turbo Ivy Tech now the turbo
obviously makes more power it makes about 173 horses 220 Nm of torque that's
that's pretty impressive that's Octavia 1.8 TSI territory nearly and globally
it's it's got a manual and a CVT now if I'd had to place my bets
I place my bets on the turbo with the CVT coming to India and it has a nice
ring to it - sorry I drive a Civic turbo it's just something nice to say right so
yeah and speaking of which it will land in the D segment which means it will go
up against the Corolla Elantra I'll answer if I tell you what you're looking at then is
a price bracket of 18 to 20 lakh which might seem expensive but this for some
perspective the Civic when it was discontinued back in 2012 it is yourself
for around 15 lakh ex-showroom and that's where City is now so that's just how
inflation works economics so and speaking of expensive Hondas okay the
Ciaz so that that's getting an update finally it will be launched this year
and maximum chances is going to be at the Auto Expo as well and the big
talking point for me personally is the diesel because for the longest time it's
it's always been a petrol only it had two petrol engines no diesel for for the
longest time and in in a country like India where SUV equal to diesel maybe
having just the petrol engine wasn't such a wise idea but when this diesel
engine on paper seems little modest 1.6 liter motor twin-scroll turbo so not a big 2
litre - why not yeah not a big 2 liter 2.2 - yeah Ivanova has a bigger
engine for that matter but the numbers they they're very impressive now the 1.6
litre diesel 160 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque that's why the lot from a
little four pot motor right and the Honda a cvd four-wheel drive all
of that's dead they all will drive will probably be an option but that aside
apart from the engine itself what will be a highlight for me personally is the
option of it now finally being a seven-seater now when you've got a
monocoque chassis you've obviously got less room to play around with so I'm not
gonna assume it's going to be the most spacious as a seven-seater per se more
like a five plus two but that will become a big selling point because at
that price point forget about passenger space it improves
your cargo ability as well you could make some more practical if you don't
have passengers you can fold the seats down get 960 odd liters of space or yes okay so we were
checking and the Australian spec CRV for a matter with the last two rows fold it
away it's nearly thousand liters of volume that's that that's quite a
lot of volume and the CRV it will again we're hoping if if Honda gets the
pricing right if this try and slot it against the Compass or the Tucson so
those added two seats who will be a huge boost you know in in favor of the CRV
and we can finally see the CRV claw off the sales charts and finally get some
numbers for Honda which brings us to yeah and this is something it's a bit
iffy if it's going to be there at the exponent we are expecting since it is a
hatchback of course we're talking about the Jazz facelift it's got some cosmetic
revisions is not something extreme pretty much the same powertrain options
as well maybe a few features shuffled about in the variant range but not
something extensive but we are hoping to see it at the expo even if it's not
launched right because it is time it's been roughly three years since the Jazz
was launched and let's let's look at the bigger picture right the new i-20 is
coming in the Bolanos eating up the sales charts like anything and Honda is
sort of missing out on the absolutely because the Jazz needs to up its game
right so yeah a Jazz facelift it will be launched this year that we're sure of if
it's going to be at the expo bit of a mystery like it is with the
sports or urban av concept that we're hoping for I mean we've spoken to Honda
officials we've asked and just bring it down show it to us yeah but since other
manufacturers are going down the electric vehicle way we are hoping that
we get to see those concepts no guarantees but Honda a few surprises
nothing like it so that's that's all that we're expecting from the Honda stall at
the Auto Expo if there are any surprises if they're any last-minute additions or
if there's something we get to know after we shot this video or after we put
this video up there's gonna be a link in the description with the news piece at

happening at the Auto Expo and that's it from us for this episode of zig talk
