Welcome to another nextmove video
today we are'nt driving.
we are comparing the two brothers from another mother.
the Kia e-Niro and the Hyundai Kona electro.
Today we are looking for differences between the two vehicles.
and I can tell you we found a lot of differences.
Before we go into the many exciting and hidden differences.
What do these two cars have in common:
Battery capacity and drive train
There are two types of battery sizes. We are comparing the fully equipped versions with 64 kWh battery size.
150 kW power (204 horsepower),
Drag coefficient: 0.29
WLTP range is almost identical.
the e-Niro has 6 km (4 mi) more.
17 inch wheels are standard for both cars.
maintenance interval: 15.000 km (9320 mi) and 1 year
trailor is not allowed
Operating concept, board computer, recuperation pedals the cars are nearly identical.
Both cars are not connected with an App.
And in the fully equiped version as with these two cars, we have full LED headlights.
The lenght of the two cars differs by 20 cm (7.0 inch).
we will see later how this distributes over the car.
Mainly in back seat bench and trunk we will see the main differences.
Let's take a look on the price:
The Hyundai Kona as seen here costs 45.600 €
The Kia e-Niro is supposedly cheaper: 44.790 €
But in to come to a comparable level you have to purchase the leather package and the charging cable.
The price accumulates to 46.530 €.
Aproximately 1.000 € above the Hyundai Kona with the same extras.
We left the sliding roof out that the e-Niro has.
The roof railing of the Hyundai Kona is standard equipment and is allowed to hold 80 kg (176 pounds).
The e-Niro has is as standard equipment starting from the middle level version and allows 100 kg (220 pounds).
There are several differences with regards to the light.
The Kona has the daytime running light above the headlights.
The e-Niro has it below the headlights.
The Kona has a turning light.
The e-Niro does not have a turning light
But the e-Niro has fog lights, the Kona has not.
Both cars are chargend from the front.
The charge port opens when you press it.
the Kona has the status indicator here.
the e-Niro has it on the dashboard, just like Nissan, Hyundai Ioniq.
the Kona has another indicated flap on the other side
but without function - just for the symetry of the front.
the e-Niro is missing this detail.
Let's take a look at the charging cable set for Germany.
The Hyundai comes with a Typ2 spiral cable.
it is handy, light and easy to operate.
But: it has a 20 Ampere coding
That means the car can only charge with 4.6 kW, at some stations only with 3.7 kW.
The e-Niro comes without a Typ 2 charging cable
We have chosen a one phase, 32 Ampere cable for this car.
The trunk volume is different.
The Hyundai Kona has 332 litres.
The e-Niro comes with impressive 451 litres.
We have a double-double floor in both cars.
The parcel shelf of the e-Niro is a roller.
The Kona has a fixed hat rack that closes automatically.
The Kona has a flat loading edge at 69 cm height (27 inches).
The e-Niro has it at 74 cm (29 inches).
We have a smal edge of 4 cm (1.6 inches)
The deph of the Kona trunk is 70 cm (27.5 inches).
The deph of the e-Niro trunk is 77 cm (30.3 inches).
The maximum length in the Kona is 178 cm (70 inches) - but tall people could not sit on the driver seat.
The maximum length in the e-Niro 191 cm (75 inches).
The position of the rear camera is also different.
The e-Niro has it integrated in the wiper.
so it potentially stays relatively clean.
The Hyundai Kona has it - as most other cars - above the license plate.
Space on the rear bench is always a subjective thing, depending on the driver.
Benny, how tall are you?
1,75 m (69 inches). I measure the space behind him.
66 cm (26 inches) is the length.
And I am testing the seating space now.
I can not fully stretch the knees.
You see it immediately: much more space in the e-Niro.
Behind Benny we have almost 78 cm (30 inches).
I test it.
Yes there is enough space.
Here is where you find the extra length of the e-Niro.
Let's take a look inside
We are starting with settings of the seats.
The Kona has an electric front passenger seat.
The e-Niro has a manually adjustable front passenger seat.
But the e-Niro has a memory function for the driver seat with two settings.
The Kona does not have it.
As compensation the Kona offers a nice button that sais HUD.
head up display- and there it comes out .
The e-Niro does not have it.
The Kona has a display for the infotainment that is elevated.
the display of the e-Niro is integrated in the dashboard.
Navigation is standard in the Kona in all versions.
For the e-Niro it is not included in the basis model.
Remarkable at the Kona is this cockpit style, or one could also say massive center console.
The buttons are almost identical in both cars.
The difference is that in the Kona the buttons for seat & steering wheel heating, auto hold, drive mode
are placed relatively far back.
Another difference is the gear selector switch
the Kona has buttons, while the e-Niro has a rotary wheel.
The e-Niro has seat heating and cooling for the front seat in the fullly equiped version.
and steering wheel heating.
The seat heating and cooling has three levels.
The good thing about the Kona is that you have the seating and steering wheel heating already in the Trend edition.
When the e-Niro doors are open you see immediately the rear heating with two levels.
The Kona does not offer heating on the rear bench.
The e-Niro has adjustable ventilation on for the rear bench.
This is missing in the Kona.
Both cars have ventilation below the seats.
The e-Niro has a household electricity socket, with child protection.
It runs up to 200 Watt.
So what is the conclusion
The conclusion is: there is no conclusion!
We have tried as hard as we can to shed light on commonalities and differences
of these two exciting vehicles.
In the end everyone has to decide for himself what is better one.
If you want to try it out, come to nextmove at get the cars one after another.
the Kona is available in all our locations..
For the e-Niro you are invited to our Welcome Party on February 9
there is a video on our channel with all details.
We have right now 5 e-Niro in the fleet and hope for more deliveries during summer.
We see the e-Niro more as a family car with frequent passengers on the rear bench.
Also as a Taxi or Uber.
The Kona is design wise a bit more dynamic and stylish.
And if you usually drive alone or one more passenger than the Kona is maybe your better choice.
