BMW F 750GS and F 850 GS 2018, th two big new bikes that we have already tested, but today we will talk about them with Mattia Dodi

which will tell us ubout the technical news about these two bikes, since they're all new

Here we are with the BMW F 750 GS. It hasan all new engine, the only thing that remais the same is that it's a two cylinder engine

It has a new cylinder timing which passes from 360° to 90° with 270 and 450 fires

there's a self-reinforcing clutch, there's a new balancing system which uses two counter-rotating shafts

It has a smoother output, with a new muffler system which is already ready for Euro 5 regulations

the engine has a throttle body management that avoids sudden shut downs, helping poth expert bikers and beginners

The older engine needed a secondary crank drive in torder to balance the movement of the primary one, due to a 360° timing. With this solution the engine is much smaller and lighter

The sound is totally different, more similar to a V2 enginrather than a boxer, anyway the engine is maller and much lighter

Let's say that the 750 and the 850 share the same base, changing just the cam axles and the electronics. Apart from that, they're the same

Chassis wise, there's a new frame which is a steel case, there's a longer aluminum swing arm, which is 64 cm long, increasing the traction

At the rear there's the Dynamic ESA system which changes the set up depending on the road conditions and on the riding modes

as optional, there's the ABS Pro which has a cornering function

Always as optional, on both mdel, there's the FTF cockpit, which belogns to the BMW Motorrad Connectivity pack, which can be connected to the new System set which lnks smartphones, TFT and helmet

In this way you can use your smartphone as a GPS, you can manage calls and streaming music. On top of that you can read all the info about the bike such as power, tire pressure and many other info ans set ups

another optional is the Emergency button which is very useful: you can push it in case of an emergency and call the emergency service. In case of a crash, thanks to some sensors, it will call it by itself

I'm on the F850 GS, the one with the front 21 inch wheel, it has a good hadling, with a good weight distribution, it's not heavy and it's very well balanced

talking about the front agility, I would have prefered a more agile one, this one might work well off road but it's not extremely agile on twisty roads

that being said, the seat is lower, with a new riding position, more modern, with the tank in a standard position, allows to be more agile and very comfortable. I suggest to buy the higher windshield if you ride a lot

The F 750GS has a lower seat, shorter travel suspensions, the handlebar is highers, making the riding position comfortable, while the winshield is very small, you might want to buy the bigger one

the 19 inch wheel make this bike more agile on turns, thanks to the shorter travel suspensions it's more stable when braking and the riding is extremely smooth

the braking system isn't very aggressive, but it's smooth, the ABS isn't too invasive

BEtween the two engines there's a 10 hp difference and you can quite feel them, together with the torque power

the 750, has amax power of 77 HP and up to 6,000 RPM it isn't that different compared to the 850. The big difference is over that RPM range.

with the 750 you'll have a lower bike, easier to handle, 5 kg lighter, 224 vs 229 kg and it's easier to ride

Talking about the engine with the 270° timing, there's a new sound, which is a bit quieter but nicer to hear. the acceleration feels improved compared to the older engine

the vibrations which were a bit of a problem on the older model over 7,000 RPM, here are a bit lower thanks to the double counter shaft. There are just some vibrations over 5,500 RPM but they're not bad

The 750 we have here today has the TFT cockpit but it doens't have handguards. The quickshift works well, but this shift isn't too fast

this bike is really fun, you can leave the 3rd gear on and it's very elastic. The front end is very smooth, making the riding easy

But if you want to have some fun, you can still enjoy the ride going fast

How to turbo BMW m50/m52 engine, S03E05 Finish up the build... - Duration: 21:41.

Welcome again to Sipa's garage.

This time we are working with the Petri's car.

After last time Petri has done quite a lot to it.

If you remember from the last time, we didn't have correct throttle cable.

So I told him to get cable for e30 with m40 engine.

It should be long enough.

And it couldn't be much better length than this is.

But then the wire inside is bit too long.

And it has this stiff end also.

So I need to shorten that and put some lock here at the right spot.

And inside the car.

Petri has installed new Sparco seats.

To replace the shitty FK seats.

So now we have those really nice looking proper bucket seats.

So those are ready for some action.

And he has also cleaned the engine bay and put all the covers there.

So the engine bay is ready too.

Looks pretty neat.

Only thing to do for the engine is to tune it.

Then also..

He has also put some rubbers on the work wheels.

The rears have the Toyo R888R tires.

Same as last summer, but the wheels are new.

Which are genuine 3 piece work wheels.

The model is work Equip An.. Ahn.. fuck. Anhelo something.

Not the most seen wheel type.

The during Petri has had these, I have not seen single set for sale. At least when I have checked.

So I would guess that these are quite rare.

But Petri happened to find these so we will use them.

Lets see how those look on the car later.

Yeah and Petri has also modified the exhaust.

The tip is now bit different.

And then...

And there is small resonator which hopefully reduces some exhaust drone.

So that's new.

That was the exhaust Petri did and...

Then.. I need to modify the rear axle but probably no video about that.

So I will do that and the we will put it under the car..

And one last thing. Petri has added that M-tech I rear bumper half there.

Not genuine one. But fiberglass copy.

So that's on now after he painted it white.

And the hood is now repainted because last time we had some runs in it.

We couldn't get those go away well enough so it required repaint.

So that's now ready to go on the car.

And there is some Nankang NS2R tires waiting when the Toyos run out of rubber.

So there is new tires waiting when we need.

Hopefully that's all so we can start working.

oh wait..

Is this really this wide.

yeah. And you are still missing stuff there.

Do the washers go on top or bottom?

Don't remember.

Guessing on the markings, it goes on top.

Oh yeah and the supports go on bottom.

Like this.

Plenty of room now.

And it rotates like. Yeah. That side down and other side up.

Fuck..

Does that even rotate.

You should put some grease there.

There is. Really? Those will start making noise if they are dry.

Don't care.

And after tow weeks you swear that you needed to take all off because the squeaking was annoying.

You think that I can hear that from all the other noise this makes?

Could be..

But how we can eyeball this to good starting point.

How come?

Like which angle this should be?

Well the axle is now straight enough.

So we will put those as straight as we an and it should be good enough.

Fucking hell these are all stuck.

Those are supposed to rotate freely. You know?

This wasn't this shape when I started rotating it.

Do they make this from tin?

I may need hammer to get that moving.

Maybe.

Fuck!

That went like daddy inside mommy.

Yeah I didn't need to force that at all.

Don't know why.

Because of the reasons unknown.

And this won't fit here.

You may need to rotate that first little bit.

Little bit? More like whole full rotation.

How did you lift the rear diff there by yourself?

I did use the car jack. oh...

I did once took that of dropping into my lap. And after that I decided to use the jack.

And if you once drop it in your face, that's the last time you will do that.

Yeah that will be different looking face after that.

Fuck I still need to put on the driveshafts.

Those are annoying to put on.

Luckily we have the power tools.

Then.. well.. That one.. How can I deal with the locking.

Remember to push that forward.

What?? You need to have small pre-load on the support bearing.

Push it forward little bit.

Like this?

Then I need to tighten this locking collar. Yeah I tend to forget that.

Yeah it even rotates.

The tool I have is to right one for this job.

Then can you give me the heat shield. All the bolts should be on that.

That really clean looking one?

Well yeah...

And it will crack later. I'm sure.

I the bolts here.

You have some extra rust protection here at the wheel wells.

Anything to protect from rust.

What is this stuff.

Some weird black extra stuff here.

Throw me a hammer. This shield is warped a bit.

And now I'm scratching the side of the car.

Now I ripped my shirt.

Well..

You need to come help me. Ok I'll come.

After helping we had some guests at the garage, so we went outside to listen how s38 turbo sounds like.

And after that it was time to finish the brakes and we could then push the car outside.

Too big.. Fuck..

Is it working at all.

I can hear something happening.

Sounds strange.

Push it all the way and I will open this.

oh.. Fuck why did you put here so short hose.

Well it was too long previously and I shortened it.

hold.

pump

Do we need different container for the fluid.

I think that's fine.

pump

The fluid is at least clear.

?

The fluid is really clear.

It better be because I have replaced the fluids like 3 times during one year.

You are holding again? Yeah.

And close..

There is no fluid coming, so lets check the other side.

No fluid?

I mean air. Yeah That's what I thought.

Lets go to the other corner.

Should have we start from the most distant one?

Yeah, but we didn't..

Fuck me..

This is the side I don't have the locking screw.

Do we even have anymore wheel bolts.

Those are in the box.

Just straight use the bolt gun like they did in Hoonigan..

let's do the alignment at the lift later.

Yeah so that I can even do some driving.

Nice video we are making now because most of the material is from putting on the wheels.

Like we haven't done any actual work.

Because some idiot forgot to bring the camera stand (and microphone) here.

We need camera man here.

Yeah third person to operate camera would be nice.

The center hole is maybe hair too tight.

Maybe because of the rust.

Well easier to bolt on the wheel.

There seems to be quite a lot of toe-in this side.

Hard to see because if this.

Put down the handle!

Fuck!

It's fine!

Be careful that the mirror wont hit anything this side.

All the way outside.

The rear tires are still not in the middle of the rear arch.

Just as bad as before.

Did it even move. Well it had to move.

Fuck me.

It's better at least.

Get the coronas now.

?

Get the coronas.

? The beers.

Open this one also.

Now we need the Vin Diesel to mumble like in FF1

"you can have any beer you like. As long as it's Corona"

Now we need to tune it.

And after some short celebration, we started tuning the engine.

For start everything was looking good.

But once the engine warmed, it wouldn't idle at all below 1500 RPM.

Because there wasn't enough vacuum inside the intake.

Also the AFR's were extremely unstable. But while after I did found out that I had some really strange settings in EGO correction.

Even thought I meant to disable it completely.

To fix the overlap issue in the cams we needed to take off the valve cover and re-degree the cams.

We did now put those 1mm open at TDC when before those were about 2mm open.

After that the engine started idling how it should. But bit later this happened..

So something went wrong when we did re-degree the cams.
