Chevrolet's latest Silverado sheds some weight, adds a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine and has more standard features than the outgoing rig

If you're hankering for a new pickup, the 2019 Silverado's base price, $29,795, is the same as last year, but pricing on the upper trims has been shuffled

The new turbo-four Silverado will start at $38,395, $300 less than last year's model with the 4

3-liter V6. The 2.7-liter turbocharged I4 is now the standard powertrain on the Silverado LT and new RST trims

The new engine is rated at 310 hp and 348 lb-ft, versus 285 hp and 305 lb-ft for the V6, which has been relegated to the lower trim levels

This will be the first four-cylinder engine GM has ever installed a full-size pickup

Chevrolet is betting the new engine will provide enough punch for most their customers' needs while keeping their truck in the fuel economy fight against Ford's aluminum-body F-150 and Ram's new mild hybrid truck

Fuel economy figures have not been released for the turbo-four Silverado.   Further up the trim ladder, the High Country adds $1,000 to its sticker along with a host new standard equipment like lane change alert, side blind zone alert, advanced trailering system, LED exterior lighting and GM's slick new power up/down tailgate

Other updates for 2019 include including dynamic fuel management system, stop-start, and active grille shutters for 5

3-liter V8 models, resulting in a 1 mpg bump across the board (17/23/19). 2019 Silverados with the 5

3-liter V8 and eight-speed automatic are already hitting dealer lots. 6.2-liter V8 models with GM's 10-speed automatic will follow along with the rest of the new engine options, including the 3

0-liter I6 turbo-diesel. In a tough truck market, Chevy thinks its new pickup will hit the sweet spot for a lot of customers
