WAS SHOT ! ! !
Greetings to you, my rare spectator!
My guests for today are Mr.Kirill
and his amazing Honda Prelude'1997.
So, tell me how did it happen that you turned into a honda-boy.
Well, it happened as it commonly happens: I just wanted a car.
Long ago I used to own a Prelude'1987. That car had bitten me
and I fell in love with Honda.
Then, after selling the Prelude, I've bought a Caldina.
But Prelude bitten me so hard - I couldn't forgive myself selling it.
So, I've read a lot of articles in the interneg, being gathering any information about Preludes.
Of course, I did like the 4th body of Prelude, the interior especially.
But the 5th - I understood that it is my renewed love.
It happened for me to bump into 5th Preludes, and I couldn't rip my eye of it - they're sooo cool.
And finally I decided to buy it.
Fortunately, that exact one had been sold for half a year when I decided to take a look at it.
I'm sure, he was waiting for me.
Well, I took a look at it, evaluated a bit and the car chosen me.
And couple hours later with no any doubts I've started selling the Caldina.
It took me half a year to get rid of the Toyota.
And the Prelude became mine. That's a destiny.
Later on I've started tuning it.
I was young and, of course, in the beginning modifications were not serious: some LEDs, stickers.
And, finally, I've swapped the engine and 5 manual.
Dude! You've got the fuel tank full??? Mean! I envy you!
What do I have non-stock? A steering wheel, a Greddy front lip & side skirts - I've installed them these days,
a replica of the front spoiler - just a fetish.
And that's pretty all.
There's nothing uncommon under the hood.
That's the 3rd engine of that car.
The firs one died due to fucked-up timing-belt change - I was lazy about it.
It was a couple of kilometers to reach my home and the belt failed.
All the valves were bent.
Well. What to do? To look for the engine.
The engine was found here - in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
I've bought it, replaceв all the belts, gaskets, seals, etc and installed it.
But! Two weeks later, in the night, a generator lamp occured.
I didn't pay real attention to it and just reduced the electricity consumption to the minimum -
I thought it was just a generator belt rupture.
Who did not let me to stop and check the engine? Me. Stupid me.
When it was 10 km to my house, a timing belt failed. At that moment, I've understood that I'm buying the H22A.
The big advantage of the H22A is that if the timing belt ruptures, the valves can hit the piston only when the VTEC engaged.
I don't drive a lot with VTEC. So, for me this engine is more reliable.
The rocker arm cover was painted into a shitty colou - I've expected another one.
That thing - it took me long time to get it.
It's a part of the Euro-R Accord's intake. Nothing very special but it's the most efficient.
The exhaust. I did want a full-back from Mugen. But the twin-loop muffler is better for me and...
I've chosen the MaximWorks (they produce some models for Mugen too).
Where's the insulation of the manifold?
The insulation usually hides the beautiful polished manifold.
But the polished manifold becomes brown - as it is now.
As for me - it looks more beautiful without insulation.
The only issue bothers me sometimes - the EGR system error.
I've overhauled the system, cleaned it, but the alarm still rarely occure.
Hm. That seatbelt is not so weared - gotta swap left to the right.
Dude, it's a FWD here?
Yes.
And a ... the engine rotates counterclockwise?
Yes. As the usual Honda.
So, the 1st gear is in here?
Yeah!
Let's go.
Hey, where's the turbo?
Wait until 5000rpm. Here, right now.
AAAA. The VTEC inside!
It was weak at that attempt.
Did you hear the VTEC engaging?
Yeeeah.
Heh. That's cool. You steer it, throttle a bit, and it screws into the turn. No any drifts or so on.
That beeper - it's a legacy of the AT?
Yep.
Yo, man. What do you do?
Just some driving lessons. He pays a lot. C'mon, let's go!
Hou do you use this strange lever?
C'mon! C'mon! VTEC! VTEC! VTEC! C'mon! Yeah!
Dude, I'd had got ovesteer here on my Subaru. Honda grips excellent.
A hundred! (kph). Feet into my mouth!
Sorry, kinds. There's no grip today.
Oh! I've learned to activate the wipers!
The Prelude.
It's a not a big,
pretty light,
FWD,
and very interesting car.
I did really like it.
I always underestimated the FWD cars.
They've got the engine transverse,
the transmission is transverse,
the whole weigh is in the front.
All of these is a sigh of a compact, light & cheap vehicle.
But in here we have a serious comfortable car with a nice power to weigh ratio.
The engine has low, middle range torque & the VTEC kicks a bit when engaged at the high RPM.
Most of all I did like the steering.
As I've already said - it's a cart:
you just steer a bit, throttle a bit & it jumps into the corner.
Just jumps into it with no any doubts.
Would I've bought one for myself?
I think so.
During the daily driving, I don't really need the rear doors & windows yet,
and the 4WD in the city is usually a ballast.
Most of time I can really manage it on FWD with no any discomfort.
Well, during that day I've gradually changed my opinion about the Honda.
Now I do really like'em.
Here's the time to wrap up.
Stay tuned. I've got a lot more to tell you.
